Makes me wonder if we might have actually gotten those Jakku/Crime City concepts come to live if JJ hadn't been involved with TFA. Corellia actually looks like a real, lived in place. Probably more so than any other Star Wars planet.

Yeah. I think Corellia was inspired by a lot of the alternative designs for Rey's homeworld. Particularly the "Junk Planet":

And yes, it's one of the most realistic-looking locations yet. Up there with Jedha and Tatooine (honorable mention to the Ring of Kafrene and Cloud City).

Though I'm glad it was reserved for Solo, as it really fits this narrative well, and will probably look better via Bradford Young's cinematography.

Certainly could be. It was the establishing shot they used to set up Han's background, so I assumed it was Corellia. But those do look like mountains.

If Coruscant ever makes more appearances, I need buildings to be made out of cardboard. It needs to be realistic this time.

    I'm guessing 'Val' is sitting in an Imperial outpost on Mimban here;

Either Mimban or the Mines on Kessel

We have only heard about Corellia in novelizations as well as when reading up on the history of the Millennium Falcon, but never seen the place up front before... As such, I'm indeed excited to see how the MF's birthplace actually looks like and from the opening shot of the official trailer, it seems to be a massive shipbuilding complex (like those in Ulsan, SK, Dalian, CN, and Pasir Gudang, MY) but with huge Star Destroyers being constructed above! ;)

I actually thought Coruscant was the best-looking of all the new planets in the prequels. Corellia's in that tradition, only grungier. It's the Bronx, while Coruscant's Manhattan.

    I was being sarcastic :p

But agree. Corellia is the less "civilized age" version of Coruscant.

Oh, I know. Was just clarifying as I was one of those people criticizing the artificial look of Kashyyyk. :) The best new prequel planet exteriors, I think, were those that were primarily non-organic. Coruscant, Kamino, etc. Easier to get those right with the CG of the time.

Yeah and in Kamino's case the unworldlyness and sterile look of everything fits perfectly

I actually wasn't a big fan of the exterior. Really like the exterior look, though.

Lol, suddenly this popped up in my head in relation to the new planets: :p
    - Corellia = Ulsan / Dalian / Pasir Gudang shipyards
    - Vandor = Antarctica with rugged mountains a la Himalayas, Alps, or Rocky Mountains
    - Kessel = the Star Wars version of Io (the insanely volcanic moon of Jupiter)
    - Mimban = planet-sized Everglades

    And last but not least:
    - Coruscant = where else but Dubai - 10000x bigger! =D=

The images we are seeing in the tv spots look great. Not sure I would like sub text telling us which planet we are going on. I hope we won't need this.

I liked the planet name text in Rogue One, actually. Gave it an almost documentary feel, which was appropriate.

Likewise - do we yet know if Solo continues that motif?

It would've been very confusing without those texts. As much as I like R1- I realized they jump around bit too much in the beginning- even for a casual viewer who doesn't really give rat's ass about random planets it would be confusing without texts. Texts indicate when they change place and give some interesting background info for fans at the same time. I hope they keep this in Solo if they jump around Galaxy a lot and make it fast. If pace is not so fast it is not needed really- it is obvious if they change place and discuss about their destination.

Sounds like Solo drops the motif from Rogue One of naming locations onscreen, unfortunately. Apparently there are a few opening lines establishing life on Corellia but that’s it. Oh well, I quite liked that bit.
