I tell you this as someone with years of experience in the field of data science: ****ing ban that field.

 

I find it infuriating to get ads for products I just purchased - i.e. I have an active insurance claim now, so I go to their website and someone's decided that means I should get ads from them about the service I own. Or yesterday, I bought a Black Series Han in Carbonite (the articulation is next level) because it would be a good little piece to go on my bookshelf, so now I'm seeing ads for that exact piece.

There is no benefit to these services. And any concerns about policing illegal activity are nonsense.

Like most of humanity’s problems, this would be solved if people just realized the only interesting thing about computers is broad classifications of algorithm time complexities.

 

I've argued on the privacy subreddits with Americans horrified by ours and the EU's controversial view that privacy is a right (gasp) and that the law should protect that right in absolute terms from companies (ngl sounds like oppression). It's so good knowing it tilts libertarian idiots that we have privacy laws.

So the modern American leftist is basically a joke due to a combination of institutionalised anti-intellectualism, a lazy and incurious approach to learning, and the US having no leftist tradition to speak of ergo most of it was "invented" after people got excited about a fair tepid old senator in 2016. Mostly they say stupid or disposable things and do very little to enhance discourse because they don't feel their lack of experience or history is an impediment. Our countries respectively have proper left wing parties and historic examples of prominent socialists, but we're to take a back seat because Chad from Ohio is going to tell us how democratic socialism is what Norway has and it was invented by Bernie Sanders.

It's an unfunny "comedy" that is what non-nerds think nerd culture is. So it lacks authenticity or familiarity...

 

Last couple seasons I can't speak for, but there's certainly a sense of authenticity over the tensions between theorists and experimentalists and scientists looking down on engineers and things like that. I'm not aware of any comedy that's come closer to reflecting that.

Anecdotally, it was fairly popular with the sort of people I knew in the group it was focused on.

 

You tend to rant against the weirdest topics, but anyway, for what it's worth, Big Bang Theory used to be rather popular among the nerds it mocks.

 

You are about to stumble into distinctions between nerds that one group doesn't really acknowledge.

 

I'm losing a lot of respect for a lot of people right now.

 

My point is limited mostly to the complaints about authenticity/familiarity seeming off when it even independently covers my "rogue physicist" theory at one point

 

I only watched it on a plane to time exactly 22 minutes for my sleeping pill to kick in.

 

Big Bang Theory was an awful show, but didn't it end like 4 or 5 years ago? I barely see anyone talk about it anymore, as it should be.

 

Just saw this: Adam Smith was against lassiez faire economics, just like John Maynard Keynes was. Any capitalist that ignores their customer base and just focuses on short term ROSE is no true Scots capitalist.

 

The one good thing on Young Sheldon is the way his twin sister Missy is portrayed.

The young actress has amazing comedic timing and her character gets a lot of the best lines.
