Nope. Lucas was asked about creating a suit to be scanned in and then go from there, but he insisted that it be all CGI. No money would be spent building the armor.

it's all subjective but i have no problem with the existing cg in the pt. the special edition ot jabba was terrible and they fixed it. part of what gl has wanted to do is make things that are impossible possible and he has largely succeeded imo.

Don't care, as long as it looks good and as convincing as possible.

Yes, I knew they were CGI when I saw it opening night. My friends and I noticed something off the 1st time the troopers were in AotC in armor. By the end of the movie we were certain they were CGI. When we saw it again the next day there was no doubt about it. It ldidn't look real.

CGI Yoda always looked fake to me, puppet Yoda looked far more real.

The fact that LOTR which came out around the same time as AOTC had visuals far superior to ILM says a lot. Gollum > Yoda

I also found the cgi clones to be distracting and a bit video-game-like. The only scene that seemed to have a passable cgi clone (one that was realistic in my eyes) was when one was talking to Padme on the sand dune after they fell out of their ship. Also their CGI heads in ROTS were awful too.

I agree with T-R. The problem I had with the clonetroopers was their contrast. Their shadows on their body here and there weren't dark enough. They looked flat as a board to me.

This is like arguing about Coke vs. Pepsi. When I used to drink soda, I enjoyed both.

I'm not worried, I think they will have practical and CGI. I'm more concerned about the story and characters.

That article from Movie Cricket is quite funny. It states they have reason to believe Serkis will play Zeb, then at the end of the article, they admit "This is all speculation." Click-bait.

Clonetroopers looked as fake as stormtroopers looked lumbering and incompetent (no disrespect to the stormtroopers in the OT). It really is more about personal taste than it is about what is demonstrably 'better'. Lucas was happy enough to use actors in costumes for Republic guards (TPM, AOTC and ROTS) so it wasn't about Lucas making a point with CGI. It was about how they go about creating Clonetroopers that can convincingly take part in epic ground battles. I thought the battle of Geonosis and Kashyyk etc. worked far better than the battle on Endor (which was the anthesis of epic) and that's largely down to the scope of the battle being extended by virtual environments and charcters. It would be nigh on impossible to make an acceptable big battle scene now where it wasn't largely CGI. But as I say, yeah - for what it's worth, have actors in costumes for close ups and do the rest CGI.

Considering their story about John Morton was just debunked by Morton himself I wouldn't put much stock into the Serkis/Zeb stuff either.

I'm one of the few fans who had no issue with the TPM Yoda puppet, so I wouldn't mind & would very much like some more practical effects* in Episode VII.

*Not just dealing with creatures, either. Many effects shots in the PT would have been vastly improved if miniatures had been used in conjunction with CGI.
