HBO hears word, brings 'Preacher' to small screen

That's right comic fans, Vertigo's Preacher is being made into a series on HBO. Ennis and Dillon are serving as executive producers so we can be sure that it's in the right hands. I am absolutely thrilled about this news!

Looks interesting. Pity I'm too poor to afford HBO.

Good news. Howard Deutch is an odd directorial choice -- he's mostly done stupid comedies. And having Mark Steven Johnson is a strike against it. His comic book movies have been crap. I thought Ennis had written a screenplay.

Even so, HBO is a good venue. I, also not having HBO, am looking forward eagerly to the DVDs.

Johnson doesn't bother me at all. I actually really enjoyed the Director's Cut of Daredevil.

    Mark Steven Johnson talks Preacher

He's got a five or six year plan for the show and it looks as if they plan on staying very faithful to the comic. No word on when the series will start airing, but he says they he's still writing so it's at least a few years down the line.

All I'm hoping is that Mark Johnson is not kidding around when he says he'll be keeping close contact with Garth Ennis about the project, because this was one of my absolute favorite comic series, and I guess my expectations for a tether-free mini-series are nigh-astronomical.

I've never read the series but the premise sounds interesting enough.

My biggest concern will be how the media and public will take Custer's "quest for God". Seems like just the thing that'll cause a ruckus(sp?) among religious groups.

Oh, it will definitely be controversial. There are several aspects of the story that would be considered blasphemous.
