Padme Amidala Queen Amidala's Post-Senate Hair

I plan on making this costume over the summer, but my main obstacle is the hair. I'm thinking of simply buying a long wig instead of using my own hair, that way it's easier to work with, but what advice would you give me for molding the hair into that shape and how would you make the foreknot part?
