I have been a big fan of TFA for the past year, but my gosh...Rogue One puts TFA to shame. TFA was an exciting, well-made movie, but far too silly and lighthearted and unrealistic compared to the OT and Rogue One.

I went to see Rogue One last night expecting to enjoy it but not as much as the main trilogy movies. I saw a review that called it "The best one since ESB," and kind of said to myself "I'm sure it's good but that's probably an exaggeration."

It wasn't an exaggeration in my opinion. It was the most serious, realistic, raw, genuine Star Wars movie since ESB, and that's the style of film that I like. It was so well put together and the story it told was excellent.

    1. The Empire Strikes Back
    2. Rogue One
    3. Return of the Jedi
    4. A New Hope
    5. The Force Awakens
    6. Revenge of the Sith
    7. Attack of the Clones
    8. The Phantom Menace

Said that it's early, this is my point of view:
    1. ROTJ
    2. ESB
    3. ROTS
    4. RO
    5. ANH
    6. TPM
    7. TFA
    8. AOTC

I just wanna say that even the ones that I put at the bottom of the list are great movies, among my favorite outside of the Star Wars world.

I can't put R1 over any of the Star Wars films. I just had no emotional connection to any of the characters. The fact that I didn't love it after the first watch worries me. I loved TFA instantly.

And I think Rogue One is very good, it's simply a matter of me not fully investing in all of the characters the same way that I do the other characters in the saga.

It seems like perhaps you're the one in need of having some counseling so that you can learn how to accept a diversity of opinions -- and perhaps some spelling lessons would be helpful too.

I like tough bad guys. It made Vader and the Empire seem fearsome again. Not just a bunch of ROGER ROGER fodder. R1 was not just a good movie, It made the other movies better from being made. Much more context for ANH.

AoTC, TPM and TFA made the other movies worse.

Very, very difficult at this time but my gut feeling:

    1) The Empire Strikes Back - pretty much unshakeable. It does everything with perfection and precision.
    2) The Force Awakens - meant a lot to me personally, and I love how it is just brimming with colour and life in every way.
    3) Rogue One - arguably a better actual film than TFA but not quite as meaningful for me personally, however that last act is beyond incredible.
    4) A New Hope - story, music and design are spectacularly good but it's looking a little bit creaky these days. Still adore it though.
    5) The Phantom Menace - my first SW film which made me fall in love with it. Vastly under-rated and well aged.
    6) Return of the Jedi - irrelevant first act, dull second act, fantastic third act.
    7) Revenge of the Sith - ambition, scope and tone are excellent. Dialogue is excruciating and direction very hammy. A mixed bag of sublime and terrible.
    8) Attack of the Clones - action is great, Natalie Portman is great, everything else... I'll pass. Some terrible decisions made and an appalling script for the most part.

I'm struggling with where to put it in relation to TFA. I came out of RO very pleased, while I came out of TFA with mixed feelings and I continue to have mixed feelings about that film. But the longer I live with it the more I like it and my gut tells me I'll like RO less in the long run.

I was scared about the repeated viewings of Rogue One, after all, it was SOO good the first viewing, it couldn't get better, right? Wrong! It gets better and better and better.

    Very high rewatchability.

Also, Rogue One enhances A New Hope, so be assured, its place is safe and sound in the Star Wars lore.

In fact, If one wants to watch the Saga in release order, they will have to break this rule a little bit and watch Rogue One first. For machete order, the same thing, Rogue One should be the first.

I have no idea where Rogue One will end up in my list once I've seen it ten times, but I'll try to make a list just for fun, even though I've only seen it once.

    1. A New Hope
    2. The Empire Strikes Back
    3. Return of the Jedi
    4. The Force Awakens
    5. Rogue One
    6. Revenge of the Sith
    7. The Phantom Menace
    8. The Battle for Endor
    9. Attack of the Clones
    10. The Clone Wars
    11. Caravan of Courage

This list will almost certainly change. Maybe even tomorrow, when I see R1 for the second time :)

Tricky because it is very different from the episodic films, but I'll give it a stab...

    1. TESB
    2. ROTJ
    = TFA
    4. ANH
    5. RO
Followed by the crappy prequels that aren't worth ranking.

I'd actually love to see TESB and ROTJ being retold in the style of RO. It would make the face off between Luke and Vader immesurably more epic.
