As strange as this may sound Christmas and Raiders seem inextricably linked to me. Obviously my first exposure to Raiders was on home video back in 83 or 84, but I can clearly remember the hype surrounding its UK TV premiere on Christmas Day 1984 and subsequently watching it (and my dad taping it). Throw in the biblical themes and it always seems to on TV mainly around Chrismtas time too since then.

My first year in the UK (1989) I moved into my flat right before Christmas. One of the people I worked with lent me an old b&w TV so I could watch Raiders at Christmas. The only UK-compatible TV I had at the time was an old mini one that was international - worked in the US and UK. It had a 2-inch (diagonal) screen. It was a great little TV til it finally died. Indy was much better on the borrowed TV!

Not wishing to derail this thread too much. I found the original 1984 ITV trailer for the Raiders premiere on UK TV.

Moved from the US to the UK for job purposes. It was basically a transfer since the new position was with the UK branch of the same company I was working for in the US. Once I was here long enough I got indefinite leave to remain and have lived here since.

I rank them in the exact order in which they were released.
Raiders was epic, but the Indy movies have progressively sucked,
worse and worse, with each sequel they've unleashed on us.

    1) Raiders
    2) Last Crusade (sometimes this is #1 depending on how I am feeling)
    3) Temple of Doom
    4) Crystal Skull (switches places with Doom sometimes, but last third of film severely drags it down for me most of the time)

Long time since this thread was last active. My rankings are still the same:

    TOD
    ROTLA
    KOTCS
    TLC

TLC and KOTCS are close for me to be honest.

    1. Raiders / Temple of Doom - I can't distinguish between the two, because they are both of the highest quality, even though tonally two very different movies.
    2. Last Crusade
    3. Crystal Skull

Raiders of the Lost Ark is my go-to comfort movie. The one I want to watch when its raining outside, or when I'm feeling a little down, or when I am working, I put it on in the background. I would like to find fault with this picture, but I can't. It is one of those movies that just works, from its opening scene to its closing scene.

Temple of Doom is the one I watch when I want to smile. That sounds goofy I know, considering its darker tone, but its comic book style and just breathtaking speed, especially the third act from when Shorty wakes Indy up from the trance. Wow, it is a literal rollercoaster ride all the way down to the finish.

Reminds me how I've seen some people rank the video games in with the movies and how I need to play them. Fate Of Atlantis is particularly well-received.
