Raiders of the lost ark 10/10
Temple of doom + last crusade 9/10
Kingdom of the crystal skull 5/10

Raiders is clearly in a league of his own but i enjoy the other two a lot despite their faults. KOTCS has a good beginning but halfway through the movie it turns into a really bad indy erstatz..a shame as i thought the 50s sf vibe was a great idea.

I think Indy really only works in the 30's to 40's setting

Looking back at my ratings from 2015 I'm surprised I ranked Temple of Doom so low. That would probably be my top slot, or at least vying with Kingdom. Raiders has slipped to the bottom, but Crusade remains in the the slot just below greatness. I'd probably rank them:

    Raiders: 7/10
    Crusade: 8/10
    Kingdom: 9/10
    Temple: 9/10

The other day I got into a friendly Indy film ranking debate with two of my friends who happen to be brothers and the one friend was going on and on about how ToD is the best and I politely demolished all of his arguments, so his older bro, who prefers Raiders anyway, defended him, and they eventually said it was just because I didn't understand the plot lol.[face_plain]

So, when the topic turned to KotCS, they both refused to acknowledge it even exists!

And I'm not kidding. They kept saying that there are only 3 Indy films. [face_laugh]

So at that point, I concluded by saying that Raiders is a masterpiece on the level of ESB and we moved onto another subject.

Pretty exciting to think in a few short months we'll have a new film to rank in. I'm cautiously optimistic for DOD.

Harrison Ford hasn't attempted to chew off his own leg to get out of making it, so it should at least be better than The Force Awakens.

    Raiders was the most well-rounded.
    Temple was the most intense.
Last Crusade was the most fun.
Crystal Skull was right up there too, until the monkeys showed up. But the villain's anticlimactic demise was really the movie's biggest disappointment, for me.

It's astounding to think at 80 he's going to be Indy again.

Harrison really is the eternal movie star. If he makes it to 100 and he'll still have that quality to him.
