After seeing it twice in theaters and a few more times at home--it ranks above TFA on sheer originality and scope of vision.
    Revising my earlier view:
    1. Empire
    2. Star Wars
    3. The Last Jedi
    4. Force Awakens
    5. Return of the Jedi
    6. Revenge of the Sith
    7. Rogue One
    8. Attack of the Clones
    9. Phantom Menace

Like any, Last Jedi is an imperfect film. Yet, it stands as the best sequel Star Wars sequel since Empire. It is a worthy heir.

    1. RotJ
    2. ESB
    3. TFA
    4. ANH
    5. R1
    6. RotS
    7. TLJ
    8. Solo
    9. AotC
    10. TPM

TLJ would rank lower if I were going by “watching experiance,” but much higher if the primary criteria were “fun to analyze.”

If there were a category lower than last I'd vote for that. :)

You mention two qualities which are invaluable as well as quite enjoyable when a piece of entertainment is fun and true to itself. On their own, however, these qualities are worthless. While TLJ may exhibit these qualities, it does so while also being dull/boring as well as gleefully disrespectful to the eight movies that preceded... and the people who really enjoyed them. As such, the presence of "originality" in the introduction of clothes irons and books to TGFFA, or the "scope" to which RJ displays his contempt for Star Wars fans, are qualities that are entirely lost on me.

TLJ ranks absolute dead last now and will rank below many, many Star Wars movies to come.

Your experience exemplifies why I place TLJ so high: because there is so much to see, you can’t catch everything in one viewing. Like a good book, it has a lot of meat on its bones to chew on and thus has a repeatability that is not only fun, but also adds to your overall experience.

This is a subjective thread and we're all offering our own takes--but I did not mean to imply that I thought it only had originality and vision. From my perspective, it was also exciting, thought-provoking, interesting and true to the source material. We're all going to land on different places on whether we think it has any or all of those qualities. It certainly subverted expectations and some interpret that as contempt or a departure from the spirit of Star Wars. Others (like myself) see it as well within the parameters of what the originals provided. I wouldn't have necessarily written Luke the same way as Rian but at the same time, I appreciate the direction and see it as one logical story arc from the character we saw at the end of ROTJ and it adequately explained the circumstances that led to his self-imposed exile in TFA. I don't mean to derail this thread in anyway--just wanted to offer my thoughts.

    1. Empire Strikes Back - 9.5
    2. Revenge of the Sith - 9
    3. Rogue One - 8.5
    4. Star Wars - 8.25
    5. Return of the Jedi - 8
    6. The Last Jedi - 7.5
    7. Force Awakens - 7
    8. Phantom Menace - 6
    9. Attack of the Clones - 5

This is the first Star Wars movie I ever watched in theater. I can't explain how happy I was, when watching the yellow text scrolling with SW's theme. :) I still watch some of the favorite TLJ scenes at Youtube every now and then.

It still ranks highly in my mind. Definitely top three...
I just love that it’s so different, and not what people were expecting.
And sure, it’s far from perfect. But it’s the originality that won through

Yeah, I had to rate it last too. It has some cool moments and its technically well made and all of that stuff. But.... it just doesnt work for me. Far too many issues and stuff that either doesnt belong or feels wrong. Plus, Lukes saber toss sets off the butchering of his character and I just cant allow that. If EP9 is truly awesome then I *might* still include the sequel trilogy when we watch these films but if its not then the whole thing ENDS for us after ROTJ. We'll mix in Rogue One, Solo, and possible other story films but no way Im visiting the sequel trilogy again if EP9 doesnt get it right.
