There is a suggestion the etymological root for Iraq stems back to an older word, which I've forgotten, but which means "city". So you may be thinking it's called "the Iraq" because, "the City".

It's not conclusive or proven though.

I voted UAE because I knew a guy from there once and he was pretty cool.

 

I've been to Bahrain, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, Yemen, Qatar, Jordan, also Egypt, Turkey, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, plus Uzbekistan. Oh, and Somalia. And I've looked over the border into Syria. Which ones would I go back to? None of the above.
