Nooo...no...he didn't have to die. He was busying re-enacting Romeo and Juliet when he should have been high-tailing it out of the prison complex with Hera. Then guess what happens? Rukh catches up to him. Then stormtroopers shoot off his wings, and he's forced to land at the fuel depot. Then when Sabine and Ezra show up, I think they dawdle around some more until Pryce decides to blow them all to hell.
