Am I the only one a little disappointed in the appearance of republic trooper armor in TOR? Originally, clone trooper armor was meant to look like a blend of Jango's mandalorian armor and kaminoan technology, ultimately creating something that looks like the future stormtroopers. It was interesting to see how this mandalorian-based armor slowly evolved into stormtrooper armor until they looked nothing alike. However, TOR messes this up, making clone trooper armor look like nothing more than an evolution of republic trooper armor, having nothing to do with its mandalorian and kaminoan background. Anyone have any ideas how they could have been made better? I was thinking they would look better without the white color and the T-visors.

I think they did it because it's an easy link to TCW / prequel fans unfortunately. It is odd how Mandalorian they look considering that they're coming off the back of the Mandalorian Wars not so long back, surely some cultures will still be haunted by it all?

It's tough though, the Trooper class needed heavy armour of some description and they need to be discernable as the good guys to casual fans.,

I don't think it's a big deal; some compromises had to be made in order to maintain the aesthetic. I have Corso running around in what looks like a stormtrooper helmet with a small comms dish on it, and although I dyed his armour first red/black and now green/white, it still looks the part. You have to consider that from a SW perspective, each class has an iconic analogue to the films - BH = Fett, Guardian = Kenobi, Juggernaut = Vader, Scoundrel = Han etc. The only real troopers we see are white-clad ones, so I'm ok with that decision.

If we're talking exclusively about republic troopers, the armor looks nice actually. But in so doing, it breaks the clone trooper armor's mandalorian origins, and makes the striking resemblance to Jango's mandalorian armor and kaminoan styling pure coincidence rather than intended as the armor's origins. Why didn't they make it a little more like KOTOR republic soldier armor? The republic soldiers in KOTOR were basically rebel soldiers stylized in republic red. That can relate to the good guys. My main issue is that TOR trooper armor incorporates many characteristics dropped with phase 1 clone armor but re-added with phase 2, like legion color markings, larger eye sections in the T-visor (for some), etc. Maybe the kaminoans were forced to improvise with what they knew while in secret, and were given dug up trooper armor schematics after war broke out? In regards to similarity to mandalorian armor, the T-visor concept seems to be rather widespread (republic troopers, new sith empire, senate guard, imperial specialists), suggesting it's an effective technology that's simply been adapted by others. A real world example of this would be how the modern combat helmet was invented by the french but quickly adopted world wide.

... because they're trying to appeal to as many people as possible to keep the MMO going?
