George didn't do anything to encourage Oscar voter's.

But it was on target, he basically said "Star Wars doesn't win many awards."
"I'm not very popular in the industry, but I make my movies for the People."

Lucas starts his speech out with: "Star Wars has never won many awards"

The last time I checked the original Star Wars was nominated for 10 Academy Awards including: Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actor (Alec Guiness).

That night it took home 7 Academy Awards, but was the first fantasy/scifi/action movie to win awards like that in movie history. That was an amazing night for that type of movie when most movies nominated, even including the present day, are usually heavy dramas, epics, or independent movies.

George, The original SW won those awards that night because it is a great movie, and you shouldn't diminish that because the movies after didn't get nominated as much.

I wonder if Lucas has selective memory to constantly play up the angle that the critics never love his movies......

I loved it how Harrison starts talking about the nominees and goes "and a story that happens a long long long long long time ago in a galaxy far away"

And then when he announced the winner he goes "The Force is strong with this movie"

well being nominated and winning are not the same. and aside from ANH SW only ever received technical awards. so he is correct. " From a certain point of view " .

Yeah youre right, but the fact they were just nominated was huge thing in 1977. Everyone has always said that no one watches SW for acting, but Alec Guiness got nominated for Best Supporting Actor, that is huge achievement. And yes, they were technical, but 7 awards, are 7 awards!

As for sequels, other than Return of the King & Godfather II, no sequel ever gets nominated. Rocky won the best picture award in 1976, then the 4 sequels after that go zero nominations, do you see Stallone saying, "the critics hate my movies cause Rocky II-V didn't win any awards", etc. No, usually just the original is the one that ever gets nominated or wins in these awards shows.

Raiders of the Lost Ark got nominated for Best Picture and didn't win in 1981, and the two sequels got zilch, do the critics give Lucas & Spielberg credit for that classic?

YES!! I was so hoping it won Peoples Choice, because it sure did deserve it. If you didn't think it deserves the award, just look at the box office numbers. That should change your mind real quick.

This is a spoiler for west coasters!!! But I don't mind because I was hoping to be spoiled. I was not going to watch the show if Star Wars was snubbed. Way to go RotS! The people who spend so much time behind the scenes making a movie that millions of Americans love deserve some recognition. [face_dancing]

Yay Star Wars! I knew Sith was going to win when I saw Lucas in the audience. The People's Choice Award winners are told ahead of time so they will be there to accept. I was surprised Sith one both Film of the Year and Best Drama.

Yes, this is awesome, this is the real deal the people have spoken, and WE won it.
    :)

Now they should remove ROTS from even being on the worst movie list at that IMDb poll, this proves just how stupid those fools are over there.

From a certain POV, it's a more deserving win than an Oscar anyway.

Although I'm sure Windy would argue with me if he was still around.;)
