ST Rey Skywalker/Daisy Ridley Discussion Thread

Her father or grandfather also has a new skin.



Along with a new one for Maul. its apparently the last update the game is getting. or at least thats what i read. many seem bothered that may mean no ahsoka skin.

 

I think it's honestly one of the big reasons the otherwise unplanned narrative flew off the rails and lost focus, especially with regard to Rey as a character with any real impact on the story. It was the conduit/excuse to lean into the redeem Kylo Ren shtick (esp. after Fisher died and they couldn't repeat what they did with Ford if that was their goal in the end). It changed everything, superficial or not.

 

I bet that ending with yellow lightsaber was supposed to open the door for more Rey adventures. But tough luck after TROS diminishing result and nobody cares for ancillary source stories anyway. I mena, it isn't impossible that they'll make a Rey movie down the line and if they keep the budget in check and understand that under 1 billion is Ok for a solo movie (as long as its profitable), they could do it.

 

They don't have to make a Rey movie. she is gonna appear in comics and books, maybe animated stuff down the line. she will use that saber in some form of media.

 

Like I said, ancillary sources (books, comic books) are totally niche. Nobody cares and they are first to get ignored when movies are made.

 

I hope in new material down the line, she stops dressing in rags and drapes

She'd look great with that yellow saber in a more polished look. Her best (potential) look in the trilogy imo was that discarded Luke in RotJ inspired outfit with a double bladed lightsaber. Put her in something like that in a comic with the yellow lightsaber, or even better make it a yellow saber staff, I'd buy it. As long as Kylo doesn't show up.

 

Eh, at this point that's akin to Mara Jade not wearing some semblance of Baroness/Black Widow leather in her ensemble. Them rags and drapes be her signature.

 

Either way i never expected them to jump into more live action Rey. they are too busy exploring a dozen and one other things in Star Wars to stop and focus on Rey as if she is the main point we should be following.

Its not like once Disney got Star wars Luke become the Main focus of all Star wars.

 

But Mara Jade's look is awesome.

 

They won't do it now but they can't milk OT timeline forever either. Mando, Obi Wan, Cassian, Ahsoka are all set in or very close around OT timeline. The well is getting dry fast.

 

Ok, THAT Solo movie didn't even break even nor it would even with less inflated budget.

 

Rey looks great, haven't palyed in years. Hop one day she gets her double balde lighsaber, na dher outfit in TLJ was great with her qui gon hairstyle.

 

I disagree a bit, especially with regards to TESB. The machinations of Vader's elaborate trap absolutely made them a vital component to the plot. I don't think that they were mere window dressing solely to serve Luke's storyline, they formed a deeply integral part of how it all went together.

 

Agreed. That part was so integral that it often feels more like ESB is a Han movie than Luke's

 

This is so cool. I love that they gave her her yellow lightsaber.

"Rey Skywalker" flows with the theme that each trilogy is about a Skywalker. Anakin, Luke and Rey. It would've worked a lot better and been less clunky if they'd just made her Luke's daughter, but we can't have a ST with a well structured story!

 

if she was Luke's daughter than she wouldn't take the Skywalker name as a tribute/honor/spiritual legacy. And that's what they wanted with the name and with Rey.

 

They should've properly built up her relationship with Luke for it to land. I don't mind Rey taking the name Skywalker, but if Rey was a real person, she'd probably have taken Organa, not Skywalker. Leia was her true master, not Luke. Luke and her hardly had a relationship, and if they want Rey to be their spiritual legacy down to her taking Luke's last name, then they needed to build a better relationship between Rey and Luke. That's why her being Luke's daughter would've been less clunky.

I don't care about it outside of universe, and in fact I love calling her that to folks who like to insist she's not the hero of the ST. She was always the Skywalker of this trilogy.

 

They should have built up her relationship with Luke and drop Leia nonsense. it didn't work. I get that they wanted to have a female master and female apprentice but circumstances worked against them and they should have stopped when they had a chance and actually do something worthwhile with Rey and Luke. As it is, we got Zombie Leia that nobody asked for.

 

I liked the Leia and Rey parts from TROS, sure it would have been better if the relationship had been developed more, unfortunately they were limited in what footage they had. Still I liked what we saw.

 

I liked it too. It was actually one of my favorite aspects of the movie, despite the limited footage. Leia and Rey are my two favorite characters, so I admit to bias over enjoying it.

I still think she and Luke should've had a better bond, though.

 

Its a mess and its a very convoluted thing to expect people to accept. in a way it shows how disconnected they are from what the franchise should be to what they thought star wars actually was.

And the point of those 3 things is what? they may sound good in theory but they fall kinda flat in how its presented. its gonna be hard for many to anyone to really see her as a skywalker.

 

Point of those 3 things is that they don't have to draw family trees anymore. All Skywalkers from now on take master's name. doesn't matter who masters were 100s of years since ST. They cna set movies in any future timeline, as far as they want, and still have someone with that name.

 

I think they played out the grumpy Luke a bit to long in TLJ, I liked him a lot at the end of TLJ, and he was fine in TROS.
