I don't get why every new white male in this trilogy has to be a villain. I hope he's not part of the First Order.

 

I gotta admit it would be cool for him to literally just be a wiser, kinder good guy from the Republic or something. Somethin' a little different. But I'm not exactly counting on that.

I don't think everyone expects every white male to be a villain, but he certainly has the face for one.

 

This is great news. Richard E Grant!!!! Brilliant choice and someone who I've hoped would turn up in the franchise one day. When I read the "Meet the cast" article, I nearly spat my coffee out when it said "Keri Russell, easily the most recognisable name" right after listing Richard E Grant. Keri who??????

My first thought was Hux's father, but that is obviously impossible, then my second thought was Thrawn. Likely he'll be someone involved in the FO or whatever leader left to help restore the Republic. An ancient Jedi would be the least likely, but my preferred choice. Maybe even the one in the symbol in TLJ. Like an ancient Force ghost. The first to use Light and Dark together.

 

Chiss lifespan is 80 years old, I think Thrawn is probably dead by now.

I was thinking that this character could be a leader in the First Order who actually sees reason unlike Hux and Kylo and he'll be the one in the FO who helps organize a treaty between them and the Resistance/Rebels/Republic.

 

Well the first two thoughts were based on physical appearance only.

Legends-wise, Chiss could be a lot older than 80. Take Aristocra Formbi, for example. He was already an Aristocra in Outbound Flight, which was 27 BBY, and was still in that position around 35 ABY...over 60 years. So, unless he was a teen in Outbound Flight, he shows that Chiss can live a lot longer than 80.

I'd be very surprised if he wasn't part of the First Order or some other sort of villain. Maybe I just happened to run solely into movies and shows he played a bad guy in in, but that kind of seems to be his forte. Then again, that is kind of true for Mads Mikkelsen as well, and he didn't end up being one in Rogue One

There was also quite a bit of range in his villains as well. In Hudson Hawk he was completely over the top, in Doctor Who he was quiet and an introvert.

 

He'll be a Jejerrod copy/paste. Ep IX's plot will revolve around a massive FO weapon, maybe a SKB pt. 2 maybe something else, and he'll be the guy overseeing it's construction. Hux will be relegated to to a more personal/intimate conflict with Kylo.

Okay, I'm an idiot. I seriously thought Richard E Grant was this guy from "Rocky V" and "Jason Goes To Hell," but I see now that was Richard Gant. Very different actor.

 

^ You got me for excited for a second. Rocky V talent is exactly the type of thing IX needs to get me to the theater.

 

Okay I am wondering for real now if Hux and Ren's antagonism for each other could come into play.

All while Grant's character, perhaps a wiser Officer (from the Empire?) could be showing much more productivity and allegiance towards Ren, making better plays and accomplishing much more for the Supreme Leader. Showing that Hux is inferior or losing traction in the FO.

Perhaps this would play into Hux's "replacement" or something. Idk of course, but it's fun to think about. I kinda miss the old sniveling British Imperials lol.

 

Where does it say that it is Canon (Wookiepedia doesn't count), that the lifespan of a Chiss is only 80? Chiss are similar to humans; so I don't see why they can't live past 100. Besides, Thrawn could have easily been 40 years old, or younger, in Rebels; so that would put him in his seventies in Episode IX.
