    They're all awesome :)

Nice to enjoy some female Mando/trooper artworks! I like the sandtrooper+kama combination, but the stormie helmet still seems very "male-ish" to me, compared to the Mando helmet that suits guys as well as girls the way I see it. The T shape visor is neutral and stylish whereas the stormie one is bulky and scary to some extent. I probably need to get used to the idea of female stormies, they're just very rare for some reason :(

    [:D] Welcome to Fanarts, JM!

Love your drawings! [face_love] Very good shading on the pics, and the colorings are awesome! =D=
I like the woman, is she a relative of Jango/Boba Fett? Esp like about her the way you've drawn her nose and mouth. Just beautiful!

Would like to see more! :)

Glad to see you return, JM, and back with some awesome art, no less! ;)

Aww, that old fantasy of owning Fett or stormie armor. I know what that feeling's like all too well. For now, I'm only stuck with TIE gear, but one day I want to make it TK armor. ;)

You did a very nice job portraying that through the drawings. Very nice composition with the close-up of your face and then the helmet directly beside you. The full body pose is a nice third element as well. The drawing and technical skills are also very well handled and the two colored pieces really come together quite well. Very nice job with everything and keep it up! :D

I agree and know that feeling--I want Fett armor too! I would really like to draw some femme Mandos myself, but have only drawn Boba/Jango and another male Mando (well, sketch right now). Hhmmm...drawing your own face into it---hhhmmm...sounds like an idea I'd like to try!

Like the works! I think as far as coloring, the last one on her face is the best!

JM!! Great to see you back, and with more fantastic artwork, too! These are amazing! I love the original sketches--so much attention to detail (and aren't you a pretty little thing!? :p )--really impressed with the cool crosshatch shading you've used, and the compositions on both of these are marvelous! The colored versions are very vibrant--I like the colors you chose and the beautiful light you've used--and let's hear it for making at least a bit of our little fantasies about being SW characters come true! Sometimes it can be a real gift to be able to draw! :D ;) What ever happened to the comic you were working on before? Is that all done now? You might put up a link to it here, so our newer users can visit and "ooo" and "ahhh" over it, too! Great to see you posting again--welcome back!

Wonderful work on the armour, and the facial features as well. I really like your take on the Mandolorian Woman. Even in the really rough appearing images, you've got a lot of structure going on, which is great. Keep it up!

lol, thank you guys (The pretty comment made me blush). I dont really see myself that way, but i DO see myself in mando armor *Dreams*. *sigh* One day....

FalconFan: THe comic did get done, but i finished it a long time ago, and you know how people are about their work. They go back and look at it and are embarassed by it. The writing is good, i enjoyed the writing, but i think i need to study comic book style a bit more, work on more solid inking and a touch more study on dynamic perspective. I'm putting it into my 'one day' file (everyone has those files. Goes along the lines of "One day, i'll do this, or get this done, or take another wack at that")

Inspired all the time, every day. Right now i'm on a Karen Traviss 'Republic Commando: Triple Zero" kick, and i'm working on illustrating some of those scenes (sort of in the same style as was in 'Odds') Hopefully i'll have some of that work posted before saturday.

"i DO see myself in mando armor *Dreams*. *sigh*"

I fantasize about screaming around in the 'Falcon, too...**sighs in echo** :D

And re: the comic--it was, IMHO, a wonderful story, beautifully illustrated--and as far as "studying comic book style," it's always refreshing to see unique approaches to graphic novels, rather than the "stock approach" to setting scenes and illustrating characters. Your style is very distinctive, with a sort of "classical" flavor to the art, and I loved the way you lighted and composed your scenes. I still think it'd be worth adding a link here, if not in the thread then to your sig, so we could all have a look again. Okay--fannish-rant is over! :p ;) I really did like the comic, tho! Can't wait to see more from you!

Im trying to remember how much of it i posted on a thread here way back when. If i find the scans on this computer , i'll repost them. If not, i'll find the sketches and rescan them. It was an interesting story, looking back on it, and i felt somewhat vindicated with "Republic Commando: Triple Zero" (if you read it, you know why, and if you didnt, GO READ IT! But get the first one first, hard contact. Awesome read), because it sort of covered the entire jedi/clone thing.

My theory has been this: If i were a jedi, and I were surrounded by a bunch of Temuera Morrisons and Bodie Taylors, i wouldnt be able to keep my tunics on ;P. Jedi are strong, but made of stone they aint.

The new story im sketched out takes place in the Republic Commando, Triple Zero line. Takes place on Mimban (star wars databank, take a bow) and or Coruscant. Its probably a tad easy to see what my favorite movies are in it (obviously star wars, with a few scenes inspired by V for Vedetta). Follows three people, one in the forefront, and includes Kal Skirata, Ordo, Mereel, Prudii, and Bardan Jusic, with some Jaing (again, if you dont know who these people are, GO READ THE REPUBLIC COMMANDO BOOKS! AWESOME BOOKS!)
Ive dwindled off topic, but what i'm trying to say is that i'm working on more art ;P
again, thanks for all the feedback! I appreciate it!

I love your work JM. You do wonders with lighting and shadows. I can never get that right.

I am also a fan of Karen Traviss' books. I spent 10 years in the Army, and her clones act just like some of the men I led. The books are very realistic.

    Great job!

Oh yeah, I want to say, I love your sig. Robot Chicken Rules!!!

That Jedi work is unfinished? Wow, you must be 10 times the perfectionnist that I am! :) She looks stunning, the pose, the look, the stance... Lovely blending of colors and textures, and the blue glow of the lightsaber on her clothes gives such an unreal sensation to the picture! I love the hair too, very organic tones, not too dark, not too flashy. Good luck on completing it!

So I hear you're going to portray more characters from the RC series? I can't wait :) Especially if you're going to make Bardan Jusik!!!! I love that Jedi, I think I nearly fell in love with him in Triple Zero for some reason :p (young, bearded, long blond hair, and Mando armor? hmmm [face_thinking]) I myself tried to draw him but the result didn't quite match my own expectations :p I should try again someday!

Anyway, keep it up! I'm looking forward to more of your stuff for sure ;)

lol, thanks guys. I have to refine the jedi drawing some more, and the it will be finished.

I think i will draw bardan, i just have to go through the book and get all the description on him. You know, when i was reading , it came off to me that he looked like the dude from the notebook, towards the end of the movie when he's all scruffy? i dont know, i hated that movie, but still. lol.

i've been on a two day dry spell, but i think that jedi photoshop deal may have triggered something.

    RC people now ;P

    look for an update tonight...

Oooh now you got me curious! I haven't seen that movie, who's the actor you're thinking of?

I've been attentive to physical descriptions for Bardan in TZ, and I dont think Karen went really into detail about him.... Maybe we should ask her what type of guy or which actor she had in mind when she wrote the novels :p

The drawing of Bardan I'm working on at the moment is kind of silly and not exactly representative of what Bardan's really like. I guess I just got inspired by the character, including several clothing and apparel elements that were mentionned in the books... The thing is that I don't want to make RC illustrations so-to-speak, because I don't have that much time for arts now. But sure if you want, we can share views for character appearances :)

    Great update, JM!

When you say you did this all in Photoshop, you mean the initial sketch and everything? If so, do you use a Wacom tablet? I always find it hard to draw something directly onto the computer. I prefer to draw it out on paper first then scan it in and color it using PS.

I want to comment on the lighting as well. I agree with AG88 that you did a wonderful job capturing it. It's very defined and it heightens the overall emotional effect of the piece. I can't wait to see how you handle it in the completed piece. :)

yes, i did it with wacom, completely done on PS. ussually I like to go through sketches, then scanning, then having a go, but it was a kind of a spur of the moment sort of thing.

Oh, and the guy i had in mind for bardan is this fella:http://imdb.com/name/nm0331516/ ryan gosling, although now that i think on it, i think I perfer Jesse Spencer (from House). No pic available of him on IMDB, but you can google his name and something will come up.

Holy Moly, JM!! You say that's unfinished?! Man, that sure looks finished to me! She's gorgeous--and there's a real "Mara Jade" feel about her, with those fiery eyes and all that stunning red hair! I agree with everyone else's comments about the lighting in this: it's amazing, and really makes it pop--just beautiful lightsaber highlights, especially on her face and hair. She looks like she's in mid-pivot here, toward a threat or opponent, perhaps having just ignited her weapon... (my mind starts to spin sometimes when I look at pieces like this! :p ) This is just great! And if you haven't checked out Daenna's Jusik piece, run over and have a look--it's going to be great fun to see each of your "takes" on him! :D I love this painting!
