Hi all...

    [face_beatup]

So yea. :p I tried for Friday morning/afternoon to get a post up. And then I tried this morning, and no-can-do either. Had some GM stuff to do over PM this morning. In any event, my next best time to get story updates rolling along is Sunday night. I have math homework to do right now before going to work for the night shift, then turn right around to work at the church at 5am tomorrow morning.

Sith, nice on the show. :D

WL, welcome aboard. :) Like Sith said, just post the CS in the game thread.

Grey, I hope things settle down brother. You need to talk, drop me a PM or call me.

    Mitth, leave Grey alone. 8-}

As for my posting for Jason Lasso and Russel Cook, Sunday night! I promise, Sunday night!

The following private message was sent to all active Intervention players. Please respond via private message only. Thank you. :)

The following private message is being sent to all active Intervention players, Support Staff, and GMs. With the second game around the corner, planning for the second game's storyline has been a on-going process for some time now. With that said, STAR WARS: INTERVENTION (A story-telling style OT starfighter game) set the foundation of the Intervention galaxy, its characters, and its story. The second game will focus on the players, their stories, and how they all come together in a expanding Intervention storyline.

The following three questions I am asking you all will set the ending of the first game and the opening of the second game. Your answers that are specific to the second game (all three questions) will appear in the introduction post of the second game to some degree, so please make sure you choose your words wisely, as they will set a large part of the second game's storyline.

    1) What choices (Moral, personal, work, etc.) do you see your character having to make as the first game starts down its final story arc? Please try to use one or two particular struggles or choices, i.e. Hank coming back to being the Jedi he once was. Please make sure you give detail as to why those choices are being made.

Note: We are currently engaged in three missions (Imperial convoy, Imperial frigate, Rebel cruiser); after these three missions are completed, we have two more missions to go. The first mission and the beginning of the final story arc and chapter in the game, after these three missions are done, will give all the players, Support Staff, and GMs a large amount of time to do character development and character interaction with the other players (this will be a great time to start working on these three questions IC). The final "mission" in the game will set the end game for the first game and open up the storyline for the second game.

    2) With the answer to your first question, how will that "choice(s)" affect your character in the second game? Example being, with the choices your character is required to make at the end of the first game, how will those decisions affect the character in the second game?

Note: Will your character have to go on a self-discovery of one self, will he/she's ties with the Mercs be weakened, will he/she have to make some moral decisions to betray or aid the Mercs as the second game's storyline develops, etc.? The options are endless.

    3) Give three characteristics that can describe your character in full detail and why?

u]Note: Example being, your character is strong (why, give some details as to why he/she is strong). Is your character strong because of physical strength or maybe moral strength? Or is it something else? Your character is intelligent (why, give some details as to why he/she is intelligent). Etc. Make sure you can give as much detail about why that characteristic is in your character and why it is important.

    God Bless,

    Jason

Interesting with the name WL, very interesting. [face_thinking]

WL, as for a summary of what's going, go to the Library Thread and locate the Current Game Summary (updated 04-24-2011). This will give you a good recap of the whole game. As for more recent events, involving the Rebel cruiser you'll be exiting hyperspace over, two Merc starfighters are currently mopping up the remains of a brief starfighter battle outside the cruiser. Inside the cruiser, a small team is making a unsettling discovery. When you exit hyperspace, you'll tag Earwen_Lightrider who is leading the starfighters. She'll make command decisions from there for you. :)

    Intervention's "In House Awards"!!!
Disclaimer: Intervention's "In House Awards" is, in part, influenced and inspired by the "RPF Awards" voting system.

Okay all, I went ahead and got the Game Awards for Intervention rolling along. I didn't PM the other GMs about it, since I figured it was really just a matter of getting the awards up and going. These are our first ever game awards! Below is some brief information and some "rules".

Reason: Intervention's Game Master, Bravo, decided to start game awards outside of the "RPF Awards", after several PMs shared between him and RPF Manager DarthXan318 some time ago. The reasoning behind Intervention hosting its own awards is due to the "RPF Awards" failed system that continually saw the same players, same GMs, and same games being reelected time and time again, where other players, GMs, and games were making bigger impacts around the RPF and should have got the awards instead. In short, the "RPF Awards" became about who you knew, not how well you did. And there has yet to be a better system brought to the table, despite discussions about the subject. So, feeling that Intervention's players, GMs, and the game itself weren't properly getting recognized for their hard work, Intervention has started it's own "in house" awards.

Purpose: To recognize the hard work, dedication, and imagination of Intervention's players and GMs.

Game Award System: Since Intervention's "In House Awards" is a game-specific award system and not operated by the RPF, colors will not be awarded. However, winners of Intervention's "In House Awards" are encouraged to display their justly earned title(s) in their signature as the following: Intervention (RPG) "In House Awards": Game MVP for May, 2011.

    Rules:

    1) The same player or GM (Game Master) CANNOT be voted more then once for the same award in a three month time span. Every three months, the slate is wiped clean and everyone has a chance to win again. Every award is held for a full 30 days, so from the time that the award is given through to 30 days.

    2) You must give a reason why your voting the player or GM for an award. Under each award title is an area marked "Reason," please use this field to type in a detailed account of why this player or GM deserves to win an award. The reason can be anywhere from a sentence to a paragraph in length (even longer if necessary), but a reason MUST be given. That reason can be anywhere from a single post (please include date/time) to a more wider and longer running reason.

    3) Voting is done through the [link=http://boards.theforce.net/role_playing_resource/b10757/31635865/p1/?82]Rocketjock Eatery[/link]. The only time PM (Private Message) is used is when two or more players have equal votes for the same award. The Game Master, Bravo, has the final decision for all voting and will post the winners after one week (7 days) of the award voting being posted.

    4) Inactivate and former players (and GMs) can be voted for an award.

    5) You are free to list past award winnings in your Jedi Council user name profile at will.

    6) If you have any disputes over a particular player or GM winning an award, please

FYI guys - to be more precise, voter turnout determines results. The reason why the same games and players win time and time again is because the same voters vote time and time again. If you believe the winners don't deserve their awards, vote; it will make a difference. :)

edit- mind you I am not saying the Intervention Awards are a bad thing. I think it's a great idea of Bravo's. :D I'm just saying, vote in the RPF Awards too.

Having just experienced my second federal election in Canada as a legitimate member of the electorate, I can say that it is of the utmost importance for you to go out and exercise your voting rights. :) The point of the RPF Awards is to build a sense of community by recognizing those among us who have done exceptionally well. Of course, this isn't a decision I make, nor one Xani makes - you users make the choice of who wins. So go out and vote in the Awards!

Okay, usually I keep my mouth shut about things like this when I read them. I really do. But this time I felt like I should point out what nobody else seems to be willing to . . .

This is one bold and . . . yes . . . arrogant statement you made there. So you feel like you are a better GM than Sinre, DarkLordoftheFins, Winged_Jedi and BobaMatt. Your players are better than Sarge, Ktala, MitthFisto, swbeauty, DarkOverlord and LordTroepfchen, for example. So much better, the only explanation for these other guys getting Awards is, they got them for OTHER REASONS than having played good characters? And you think your game is better than 133 ABY - The Dark Odyssey, ManCubs and AFAS? And that´s why you consider the Awards to have "failed", because you think they should have recognized the great "impact" Intervention had on these boards compared to the one 133 ABY, AFAS and ManCubs had, right?

So you start your own award because you assume others get the Awards YOU DESERVE only because they "know people". Wow. Simply WOW. I wonder if many people agree on that, really.

I am no fan of the Awards myself. I have denied people to nominate me for several years now. But with all my criticism I have for the Awards, I think this is . . . WOW!

 Yes, yes, I agree 100%! I was going to add that in there and totally forgot! [face_blush] Please everyone, vote in the RPF Awards! Its not a bad system if used correctly...we just need voters! :) In the meantime, however, Intervention's In House Awards is here to build a sense of community and support amongst our players. :)

Sure thing! Here's the informationl, from Qui-Gon_Jinn_Ghost on "Date Posted: 2/11 11:32am":

The Dark Lord of the Sith crossed his arms over his chest as he looked out over the convoy and the other Imperial-class Star Destroyers that lined the convoy like a defense wall on either side. Three Star Destroyers lined either the port and starboard side of the convoy, with the Victory-class Star Destroyer holding behind and above the three Star Galleon-class frigates in a arrow formation; the "The Last Battle of the Red Rock Kingdom" was in the lead frigate, with the other two flanking it for covering fire. Since Star Galleon-class frigates were armed with ten turbolaser cannons and a forward facing concussion missile launcher, the cargo ships were well-defended all by themselves. With the Victory-class Star Destroyer providing direct cover and escort, the ships were relatively safe.

One of the EF76 Nebulon-B Escort Frigates held a rear guard position (following the convoy), while the other one held a point position ahead of the convoy. The CR90 Corellian Corvette was directly ahead of the three Star Galleon-class frigates and formed an extra layer of defense for the cargo ships. With the six Imperial-class Star Destroyers forming a somewhat stretched out defensive wall, the six Star Destroyers had a covering arch of fire for each other and covered the cargo ships from all angels. The two lead Star Destroyers on either side had a higher position then the convoy on port side and a lower position on the starboard side, while the next two Star Destroyers (which included the Devastator on the starboard side) held a lower position on port and a higher position on starboard, with the last two Star Destroyers holding a high port and low starboard level. All other ships in the convoy were even with each other in their flight paths, except for the Victory-class Star Destroyer that held a higher rear guard position behind the three Star Galleon-class frigates.

Bravo - if Intervention has gone without a nomination these past two years, then I can only point to the fact that no one has involved themselves enough or cared to do so. The RPF Awards are there to help foster community spirit by recognizing members of that community who have contributed heavily. I'm not saying Intervention has not made such contributions, but I am suggesting that perhaps the game remains a step removed from the general RPF community. I do not know why this is so, but it is a feeling I get with regards to the game. No one is belittling the achievements of this game - I'm very proud that we've had such an RPG running for two years straight with no discernible slowdowns - but on the other hand, no one is really singing its praises either. The key to winning in the RPF Awards is putting yourself out there and connecting with the community as a whole.

The RPF Awards are reliant on the popular vote. Regardless of who one may think deserves a win or recognition, the voters determine the results. It's a fair system, warts and all.

As to discussions of the appropriateness of the Intervention Awards, I think the heavy debates can be left to the realm of private messages. Xan was telling me the other night about how big games from way back when hosted their own private awards; these are by no means a replacement for the RPF Awards, but they don't exactly infringe on them either.

Bravo ... I feel for you, I really do ... it's hard when you put a lot of effort into something and it doesn't get recognised. I've been there before myself and it sucks.

But as I told you over PM when we last talked about this, the fact of the matter is that Intervention players have not, as a general rule, been voting in the Awards. You need to vote. It is not 'egoistical' or whatever to vote for a game you are in, if you sincerely believe it deserves to win. In fact I'd say it's the height of ego to expect everyone else to vote for a game you're in if you can't be bothered to vote for it yourself. (I am not referring to you personally here Bravo - I know you've been voting - but not everyone in Intervention has been. You know who you are...)

The Awards will run again this month. I'm hoping to see a lot more of your names in the awards sock's inbox. :)

    My weekend?

I have the beginnings of a cold coming; the bin-men did not collect the plastic bottles and papers that I had out for recycling on Friday, so I am having to make little trips to the either large and full, or tiny and full, communal recycling points in my local area during Saturday, to clear the clutter left on my front path.

Mitth came through with the location of the Strident Haze in our convoy - thanks Mitth! - so I was able to knit together the ideas and snippets of conversation for my last post.:D

And Liam had a great reaction to the Tim/Got'tica debacle, so we might actually be stuck with that...

Bravo, re-reading the way you laid out the convoy with the new Impstars, I was overcome with the horror at what our "pitiful little band" is up against. It really hammers home just how much **** we are in, beyond shadow stormtroopers, saber guards, and human-scale problems.

    Fantastic.

And regards Sirak's question, comparing our players to the ones she specifically quoted and mentioned their games - I have never played in any of those games, and encountered only two or three of the players she mentioned.

Obviously, we overlap with Mitth, and SinRebirth is a stellar player and GM, but yes, our guys, players and GMs are up there.

We have to make sure we get that across in the RPF Awards, if we feel that Intervention compares favourably to other games we are in.

I will see if I can do the In-House Awards today...VOTED.

So, game stuff. Trawled Lasso and Sodaliis' posts for that confusing list of code words. If I had known I was going to transmit a call to Dude from the 'Haze, I probably would have noted them down at the time.

    MERC CODE WORDS

going dark ---- Shutting off comms
    Mother Egg ---- Team Leader

    Inaugural ---- One Flight
Initiate Process ---- Disappear and cause damage
    The day is night,
I repeat, the sun is the moon. ---- Mission is a wash
at your word ---- when you say
    Major Eater ---- Lasso
    Emerald Fire ---- Sodalis
The 'box' is compromised ---- Cargo box where fighters are ----
We have 'locust' ---- Imperial trouble
    The Jar ---- Agent Ta'Jar
    is down ---- fatality
    Ankh ---- Hank
The 'Lamp' is at the top of the mountain. ---- no idea
Will begin fumigation process. ---- Presumably kill everything Imperial?

Something I also found out, was that the Star Galleon was called the Space Rider! Be making use of that.

So anyway, are these codes specific to Two Flight, or can anyone use them?

While writing them, I came up with "Inaugural" to mean "One Flight". Bravo, Mitth, [quite eager]Can this be our call sign? Can it? Pleeeaaassseee! Pretty please, cherry on top?[/quite eager]
