    Title: Rummaging through Tool Kits
    Author: MiralukaJedi
    Timeframe: ANH, AU,
    Character: Ahsana Horn

Note: This is a companion piece to [link=http://boards.theforce.net/the_saga/b10476/29148129/p1]I,Exile[/link]. This follows the first year of Ahsana Horn, Corran's OC sister in my story and her experiences in their first year in service to the Rebellion. That's the part in my story that I'm heading towards now, but given the way I've framed this story, I figured that this would be a good way to set things up. Anyways, hope you enjoy.

Disclaimer:I don't own this universe, I just write in it.

    Entry # 1

Well, here goes. I'm finally off the dustbowl that is the planet of my birth! YES!!! I am so excited to finally get a chance to see the galaxy, even if I'll probably spend most of that time on the run from Sith lackeys, in training with Aunt Talli or otherwise occupied that I might miss out on some really interesting stuff. But think of all the ships I'll get to see! All the ships that I'll get a chance to dig into with my tools and hands. That alone makes it well worth it.

But what good will that do me you might ask if I can't fly a thing? My answer is, who cares! This is every mechanic's dream come true- well, at least it's mine.

But either way, this is going to be a great year! I just hope that I know exactly what I'm getting myself into.

    Entry # 2

My grandfather has the strangest ideas sometimes. Like any idea, sometimes they are on the right path and other times they are completely wrong.

For instance, I remember a time when I was seven and had an irresistable urge to disassemble the Lars' moisture 'vaporators and make them better. I did that a lot when I was little. It called out to me to 'make it better'. I didn't realise at the time that it was a sign of my Force-sensitivity, but that doesn't matter. Grandpa stopped me in the middle of what I was doing and made me put it back together the way it had been. Mr. Lars wouldn't have accepted anything less and refused to let me near their machinery ever again. Surprisingly, that's not exactly the first or last time that I was allowed near other people's things. But I've always found a way around such limitations. In that case, I thought it was the wrong idea but now that I'm much older, I know that it was the right path.

I'm kind of wonder if Grandpa has the right idea though. Coming out in the open like this instead of staying in the shadows. We still could have found a way to serve the Rebels but I see his point too. To come out into the open, no more pretending to be something we aren't and actually being able to be ourselves completely. That part really appeals to me is the idea of being able to be myself completely. To be able to be fully myself by being a Jedi out in the open for all to see. Oh, and getting my hands into those ships. Can't ever forget that!

Apparently in the next few days, we'll be making contact with some contact of Uncle Ros' who'll be taking us to the Rebellion. I'm really excited about that. Unfortunately, it's been decided that we'll be leaving Mom, Arrik, and my little cousins behind. It's the only way they'll be safe and I hope to see them all again some day.

Guess I'll be signing off now.

    Ahsana, out.

Okay, I figured that I'd get another entry in this month. This will kind of vault me a little ahead of the main piece in terms of content. So, there's a bit of a spoiler alert on the next few posts that come along with this.

    Entry # 3

When we made our way into Hacl'kalm cantina in Mos Eisely to meet Uncle Ros' contact. The place was the shabbiest dive that I've ever seen and I've lived on Tatooine, the galaxy's dingiest dustbowl. Me and Corran thought it was pretty funny- the place was probably worth more as a scrap heap than as an actual dining establishment. Dad told us to stop our snickering, probably to keep us from getting skwered by the patrons.

But the contact was the surprise. Apparently, my brother's dream girl actually exists and isn't some sort of mirage of the Force. She's the contact that Uncle Ros has used for the past few years to channel dissenters from Corellia to the Rebellion. Her name's Mirax and that's all we know about her. Aside from what I've managed to find out from snooping through my brother's diary of his dream girl when I was twelve. And I kept most of that to myself and he didn't know that I'd busted the ecryption sequences he used on his datapad until I stupidly boasted about it one day.

Anyways, let me enlighten you as to what I mean by 'dream girl'. Corran's had these visions of a black haired, green-eyed girl since he was fourteen and they come and go. He ages and she ages just as much, so she's probably the same age he is. And he already came out with the idea that she's the only girl for him, despite the fact that he's frequently dated. It hasn't worked out probably because of the fact that he's still pining away for someone who we didn't previously think existed. And from the look on his face- or should I say, the 'daze', we're going to be in trouble.

So, I guess I just have one question. Explain to me how this isn't going to end up somehow blowing up in my face?

    Ahsana signing off.

    Entry # 4

My plan is stupidly simple and should work, even if I know that it will blow up in my face. But at least it will bring an end to having to see Corran hopelessly dwelling on that annoying vision of his. I really wish that I was a bit better at blocking out stronger emotions through our sibling bond. Knowing the deepest fantasies of your older brother or at least the feelings it inspires is disgusting. Well, maybe beyond disgusting. More like highly disturbing.

Anyways, I pretend that I want to pull apart Booster Terrik's ship. Thereby creating a distraction where everyone is paying attention to me and my desire, or conviction that something needs to be fixed on a rather great specimen of Baudo-class yacht. Doubt that Dad, Aunt Talli, or even Grandpa will believe my act, but that doesn't matter. All that matters is making Booster believe that it is so. In that distraction, Corran gets his chance to talk to his 'dream girl', aka Mirax Terrik. See, stupidly simple.

I know that I'll get caught. Though it should be interesting how long it takes for them to catch me and just how much 'damage' I can make old Booster believe I'll do.

Don't worry though. I solemnly promise that no ships will be harmed in the course of this enterprise.

Anyways, it wouldn't sit well with me if I caused harm to such a well-maintained ship.

    Ahsana, signing off.

    Entry # 5

Well, things with my plan went pretty much as expected. I managed to convince Booster that I actually meant to rip apart his ship even when I didn't actually mean to carry though with the threat. I'm strangely proud of that fact too. I don't necessarily have to call about the Force to create a believable illusion. At least where my zeal for machinery and electronics is involved. I'm not really sure how well this would work with other stuff because I've never really tried it with anything else. Maybe I should try it with other stuff just to see what happens. Nah...

Corran got to see his 'dream girl' and the two of us were busted. We're in big trouble too. We aren't allowed to leave the cargo bay for the rest of the trip and we both are being punished for this. Though how it's going to be I have no idea. It depends on who supervises our punishment I guess.

If it's Grandma or Uncle Ros, we're just going to be grounded for a while. If it's Grandpa or Dad, it will be a lecture followed by being grounded. But I'm kind of hoping that it's Aunt Talli who ends up dolling out our punishment. In which case, all we end up doing is extra training, which we'll probably will be doing anyways.

A sparring match is nothing to worry about anyways.

    Entry # 6

I'm not quite sure on everything that's going on right now. There's a lot of people here who are excited about having won a battle against overwhelming odds but sad that they've lost their friends. I can't really relate to that yet. I've never really lost a friend before but that'll probably change soon though. Making friends always does and I fully intended to make friends when I came here in the first place.

Another thing that's weird about this place is that it's a jungle moon. I've never been to a jungle before, so all the greenery and rain, even the mud are just weird for me to deal with. I don't think I'll ever get used to it. Then there's the temples here that really are creeping out Dad and Grandpa. Aunt Talli isn't picking up much of anything but she agrees with Grandpa, her former Jedi Master, that something here isn't right with them. She knows better than to discount the instincts of others who have valuable advice and experience that she doesn't have. She's been trying to teach me that too - even if I find it hard to resist impulses from my surrounding environment to act.

What they think is there, I've no idea. All they keep saying is that its essence is in the very stones of the place, that its ancient, and evil. Heavy emphasis on the evil part. Probably some ancient Dark Jedi tied to the stones maybe, knowing the way things with Jedi fighting Dark Jedi or even Sith. The latter being on the loosing side probably found some sort of way with the Force to tie themselves to the temples. It sounds so far-fetched that it probably is true. They likely meant to wait for revenge or something petty as that.

But Dad and Grandpa have decided one thing for sure: We are never, ever coming back here again. They say that it probably would end badly for us if we did. I'm just not sure if that's a good thing or bad thing yet though. Probably a bad thing.

    Entry # 7

We came to the new Rebel base. I'd put down where it is, but you know, secrecy and all that. Can't risk this falling into the wrong hands. Mind you in this case, 'wrong hands' can mean so many things. It could mean Wes Janson and Hobbie Klivian.

This is a long story, so bear with me. I managed to beg my brother's old friend Luke to give me a chance to be the chief mechanic for a new fighter squadron he and Wedge Antilles are putting together, the Rogues. As soon as I started work, I met them. Or rather they met me.

Janson tried to hit on me and Klivian tried flirting with me. I didn't know whether to laugh at them or threaten to disassemble their X-wings. I told them as much and that I was sixteen to try and clear it up. That brought out another side of Janson and he started pestering me as to what I was doing. I told them I was fixing a shield generator. Hobbie, as he insisted I call him rather than by his last name or first name, asked me how I intended to do that using my rather unorthodox methods. Apparently my methods didn't look like they were going to do anything but trust me, they will. As it's me, I know that what I do it will work the first time out. Except for comm systems. I hate fixing those.

Anyways, I told them to buzz off and that whatever I did would work as I could fix anything. Janson took that as a challenge apparently. When I got back to my quarters later that night and I turned on the lights. Then they started flashing the most obscene neon colours that I've ever seen. Pink, yellow, blue, purple, red, and green. And a few others I don't think anyone's ever tried coming up with names for. Gotta give him points for creativity I guess. So, I did what I usually do when something is broken or defective: I fixed it. Give or take three minutes I might add.

Now comes the question of what to do next. I'm pretty sure that it was Janson that did it and I know he must have had help. Something tells me that help was Hobbie. I've racked my brain and have come to the conclusion that doing on to others as they might do to you should do the trick. That should teach them both to try pranking someone with better technical skills than they have. Wonder how they'll like those flashing lights? And how long it will take them to fix it?

Anyways, time to get back to work. There's a messed up hyperdrive with my name on it.

Kriffing idiot! Can't seem to learn the lesson that he should have learnt from the prank I pulled on him. Wes Janson can't learn that lesson and doesn't seem capable of it. So, we've settled into a routine so to speak. He and usually Hobbie will pull a prank on me. I then go and pull a prank on them in retaliation. With Janson being the mastermind, I usually hit him the hardest. For some reason, I can't bring myself to go after Hobbie quite as hard as I do Janson. But that doesn't mean that I'm not going to get back at him without the prank hitting him at all.

But you know the strangest thing? I'm really in some strange way having a lot of fun with this. Maybe living on the most boring sandpit in the galaxy for sixteen years affected the way my head works in ways I can't tell yet. But anyways, it is still fun- distracts from boredom that comes between training and fixing things.

I'll have to see what happens with this prank war and how long it lasts. Though something tells me that this is going to go on for a long time.

    Entry # 9

We've settled into the new base after the evacuation pretty well. Another planet covered by rain forests and mountains. Thilia. Much better than having to sit around in the dust of some desert world again. And it brings me into contact with something that I've come to find utterly fascinating in the short time since I've left Tatooine with my family and joined the Rebellion. Rain.

Back home, it was all sand and the occaisonal sand storm, which tended to bury everything if it was violent enough. I hated that but being that it was the only thing I ever knew, I was used to it. But here, it's so green and alive. The Force just pulses with life and then there is the rain. Rain is clean and life-giving. And whenever I have a spare moment, I head to the base entrance when there's going to be a storm and I sit there and listen. I smell the sweet smell of moisture laiden dirt. I feel the refreshing touch of the water as it falls around me. And I listen to the sounds of the water as it hits the ground and other stuff outside. I swear everyone must think I'm a little crazy for this, having grown up in better places than Tatooine, the biggest dustbowl there is. But you know what, I really don't care. I love it way too much and doubt I'll ever stop loving the rain.

    Anyways, gotta go.

    Entry # 10

Today, because there has been relatively nothing to do lately aside from training and fixing things, I got invited to a most auspicious event as Janson put it. The Rogues have a weekly sabacc game with very interesting stakes- this week the loser apparently gets to help me fix things. I'm not exactly sure how that's high stakes really. They have their reasons I guess. Once they all heard that I'd never played sabacc before and had little idea of what it was aside from the fact that it's a game of cards, they all got really excited. Wedge laughed a little and said it was high time that I became a 'real Corellian'. Apparently being obsessed with mechanics isn't enough. I have to learn how to play sabacc too.

For having no idea whatsoever as to the rules or what I was doing, I think I did pretty good. I didn't win a tonne but I didn't loose either. I broke even, much to everyone's surprise, including my own. Definitely will be playing again.

And who was the looser who will become my unwitting and hapless assistant for the next week when his duties permitt? Tycho Celchu, the new guy. Being the worst sabacc player any of them has ever seen, he won the honour. I just hope the poor guy is better with a hypersanner than he is with a deck of cards. Or else I'll have to come up with something really good to get back at Janson for suggesting this idea as a stake in the first place. If I've not been driven over the deep end first.

Anyways, back to your regularly scheduled programming. I've got a sparring session with my brother to go to.
