I've just seen Intersteller. Not great.
Also Terminator: the third third. Not great.

What are some good sci-fi movies of the last decade?

There's a super-low-budget film called Coherence that I thought was entertaining.

It may be somewhat divisive but I liked Blade Runner 2049 a lot.

Does Fury Road count as sci-fi?

Moon was a good low budget sci-fi, and I repeat that BR 2049 is a masterpiece.

Apparently Gravity is also good. I've never watched it but people love it and director and cinematographer are known to be brilliant.

Blade Runner 2049 served good pineapples in the theater.

I would say The Martian. Arrival was good too.

I don't think we can call it sci-fi, but I guess it's close enough: Snowpiercer was very good.

Agreed, with one major caveat: Only really works if you've never read the comics.

If you have read the comics? Don't go in expecting this to be the comics, go for the excellent visual style instead.

It means I saw that film in a theater that served pineapples. They were really quite ripe and flavorful. It was the best part of my experience.

Coherence is indeed great. It's in the same vein as a movie like Primer where it's low on budget but big on ideas and as far as I'm concerned way better than Primer (hot take! :p).

Ex Machina, Annihilation, Arrival, and BR 2049 would be my top choices. Under The Skin is very good too.

    upstream color

that's more like a sensory experience than a coherent movie, though.

Lots of overlap here. I think my fav was Bladerunner 2049. Ex Machina has the most and deepest symbology from feminism to God to commentary on Big Tech.

I see no mentions of Edge Of Tomorrow and Her. Her was a surprise. Damned good. Ready Player One; and I am so happy a sequel book is coming. Under The Skin. Another Earth was wonderful(What and ending!)

Arrival. Then BR2049. Then Martian. Oblivion is more action movie and straight forward but has some ideas, but, I think, worth it. Ad Astra is an interesting journey film but is ultimately dull and has a disappointing third act.

Simply talking about it gave me the desire to re-watch BR 2049.

I could rewatch it without sound, just for how beautiful it looks.

BR 2049 is very underrated. Almost as good as the original. Is a bit slow moving so probably plays better at home than it did in the theater.

My understanding is that “Ad Astra” was an attempt to have a “Heart of Darkness”-type story, set IN SPAAAAAAACE. Just watch the new cut of “Apocalypse Now” instead.
