will the judges take into account the software that is being used. It'd be alot easier to use something like 3d max, lightwave or maya. Will they consider that some of us are using things like blender and carrara

    Thanks.

Mmmmm. I was thinking of diving into the veranda before, but now it's taken :p
Will have to peruse the list to find something else to play with now.

    Good luck!

I don't think there is really a big problem in using a low-price 3D program compared to using something like Maya or 3ds Max. Notice how many classes and tutorials there are for those programs, the low-price ones are for people who don't need all of the special plugins and stuff like that which bring up the price-also they are made to be easier for people to use compared to Maya or Max.

BTW, on the poly count thing--21,000 polys is really good, it's not very much at all---I've done models with 800,000+ polys that still didn't have the full amount of detail that I could have put in--Be glad you've got only 9,000

    Hey guys.
All the initial entries have gotten off to a great start.
Hope you all keep up the momentum through the holidays. :)
Looking forward to seeing these models completed.

BTW: For anyone curious about more info the PixelCorps, there's a new interview with founder Alex Lindsay posted on MacAnimationPro.com:

You can do whatever you want with "your" work. But if you are talking about other forums then you'd end up updating and visiting all these diff. places. I do this myself and it's a pain. But yea, if you want go ahead and post it elsewhere too.

i'd be interested in doing this because i've finsihed school now and i'm incrdibly bored

EDIT: also i was wondering if the death star skeleton counts as a location?

scrap my other questions....i want to know this

will it be taken into consideration when judging if someone has built the model from scratch or has taken an old model of theirs and is just fixing it up greatly?

Zoo and the judges will be the ones to make a final call on multiple entries. Not sure if they will judge as individual models or perhapas as a single body of work by one person.

In any case, each PERSON can only win a single PRIZE.
Each of the three prizes will go to a different person, so don't worry about any chance that a single person will be able to "consume" the prize pool. :)

    Just for completeness...
Yes, the final deadline is Jan 31.
Death Star skeleton is a location (IMO).

As far as I know, I'm not a judge, but, so long as entries are 100% personal work (nothing imported from other people's models), I would think that they would be judge primarily on quality measures such as level of detail and accuracy based on references.

    General Advice:
Bottom line is, you can't possiblely win a prize or even be part of the fun of all this, if you don't build and submit an entry. There's a lot of activity going on, with many people watching the WIP threads and providing ideas and feedback. Get to work on something and start posting those progress updates while everyone is watching! :)

Don't choose to sit this out solely based on what you see in other WIP threads. You can't even be sure those other models will be finished!
Just make the best model you can and get in done for the deadline.
After that, you'll should at LEAST have a really cool model you can be proud of, probably will have learned a few new tricks along the way, and may even get it hosted and/or win a prize! :)

    Good luck!
    Have fun.

If you look carefully you can see the collection arm in there

Crap! I don't check these forums for awhile and look what happens! I'm late, but I'll give it a try anyway.

I love these kind of challenges, should definitely have more in the future, but you could get a lot more people to participate if you advertised a bit in places like scifi-meshes.com (unless you already did and I missed it).

    Hey all!
Lots of amazing models in the works. Looking forward to seeing the final results.

The deadline is still Jan 31, yes?
I think I saw a post from Zoo to the affect of WIP models being valid entries.
Still have a week (and all-important weekend :) ) to go to put the highest quality and detail you can into your model.

Even if it doesn't get 100% finished, it may be worth entering.

Zoo, do you have any specific instructions for the entries?
    Expected timeline for judging?

    Have fun!
