SciFi3D Challenge: EPIII Room/Location, Deadline: Jan 31 - Prizes!.......... ** WINNERS ACCOUNCED **

I think Zoo is mainly looking for JPG renders at the moment.
A few "hero" renders as well as a wireframe with poly counts to show a glimps of the work "behind the scenes".

10 total entries. I was just talking to ACEMAN at SCIFI-MESHES and their last contest had about 30 total and it was for big stuff like copies of LW, $500, etc. So being as small as we are here and the contest being only for a Star Wars model this is pretty good. I'll look into seeing if I can get some official sponsors like Digimation, Newtek, etc. to donate some prizes. And maybe we can open it up to any TF/FILM location or something and promote it at SCIFI-MESHES, CGtalk, CGchannel, etc.

i'd be totally up for another run around at epIII locations...it could be cool if we opened it up to the whole saga too....

i have much more confidence in my ability now so i have ideas for each episode which i wanna do....

P.S, I appologise for not completing mine...The extent of coursework for school was too much, not to mention all the other projects I had going at that time

 

First of all let me say that I had to remind the staff that it was a modelling competition. If people put lights and textures on it that certainly didn't hurt. I had to remind the guys about this b/c they were voting for MassassiOrder's stuff b/c he was the only one that had fully completed his work.. plus it was good work too. After I mentioned this to them then we all agreed on who was the best modeller but Massassi was still a favorite. I think part of it had to do with the subject matter too. Robbi picked a location that's not as interesting maybe as Massassi's. But that wouldn't come into play unless the modelling skill was equal on both projects. Massassi has come a LONG way the past year and hopefully PXC can help him increase his modelling skills. I think he's got some good talent. Maybe the only diff. between the two is modelling more details? ALSO worth mentioning is "darthviper107" and "JeneralJarJar" entries. Both were really good but obviously they didn't have time to finish. If they would have I would say they are modelled just as well as Robbi's, THEN we would have had one helluva time voting. So thank god they didn't finish. So here are the results:

Of course one person can't win more than one prize so my vote is actually the 1st,2nd,3rd winners. I decided on JeneralJarJar because his modelling and model completion. We're all familar with how good he is too. Darthviper107's is good too but maybe heavy at 1 million polys? And of course there is Lightsaber_Monster who works is maybe a little heavy and is pretty close in modelling skill to Massassi. Both of these guys could become very good with more practice. Hopefully in the future we can give out training materials as prizes and we can spread it out to as many people as possible so these guys can get better. I'm talking with PXC about this. But for now congratulations. PadawanNick will be in contact with the winners I guess.

Yea... I'll make a POLL for you guys or somebody else can actually. That would help me out.

Remember.. it's a "modelling" contest. By that some people may think "yea, model a room". What it means is modelling only. Does not include texturing and lighting.. although that is probably what helped Massassi do so good. I remember when Massassi redid his Verandah from scratch b/c we were all telling him it was too low-rez, not enough details. I think he just needs to keep working on that. Robbi just has better modelling skills... but Massassi might have better lighting and texturing skills.
