As BBN and I expressed in the Lanapalooza thread, we're going to try and play some games with each other over the intertubes.

But Sandwich, you charismatic stallion, how do I play online with you guys?

    Good question!

    Step One-
Install Steam and set up a community account Mash your pointer here to get steam

    Step Two-
Join the sexiest Steam community on the tubes; QLDFF and add [QldFF] onto the front of your nametag (eg [QldFF] MurderSandwich)

    Step Three-
Read the Events page (I suppose we'll schedule both here and there), and join in on a scheduled event

    Step Four-

    Get Serious.

What games will you clowns be playing?
At the moment, we're all playing Team Fortress 2 and we'll occasionally play Flatout 2 (Which all who came to the LAN has, if not Steam has it for online cheapness

Those games suck and I want to play something else
If there's a game you want to play, suggest it and we'll get some games going (if we have copies of it, of course)

    Anything else?
Having a microphone will assist in organization and trash talk, so it would be helpful if you had one.

    Upcoming Event
Serious Business Monday - Let's Drink Beer And Shoot Things - Monday 20th of January at 7.00pm

You have a problem with step two, joining is by invite only... That was subtle hint by the way ;)

    You're in.

Also, I'm going to find a description of Worms Armageddon, so we can all play that.

I'll the link on the Steam Community under announcements.

I'm having the same trouble G was having with step 2. I won't be so subtle.

Last night Goob, BBN and I were talking about playing a Co-op fps. I've been on the google, and there aren't really that many co-op fps. If we did, it would have to be through a mod, because I don't think anything recent supports co-op out of the box.

What I have found is -

    Zombie Master

I've played it, and it is really fun. Playing survivor is quite fun, espcially when you have a good team who knows how to play, wants to play seriously and helps out their team mates. The Zombie Master side is a bit less fun, the gameplay is a little hard to understand, but once you've mastered it, it works well.

Also, it's on the Source engine which everybody should have access to (The only person at the LAN who didn't have source was Cargin, who should be able to get access to a free source game because of his video card, but I'm not 100% on that)

    Sven Co-op

A co-op mod which requires Half Life 1 which has it's own campaign or a slightly modified Half Life 1 campaign.

    Quake 2

Quake 2's campaign over co-op, right out of the box.

    Synergy

Half Life 2's campaign over co-op. BBN and I tried to get this one working, with no luck. We're going to try it again soon and see what happens.

Need that on a patch or something...

I won't be able to participate in this Wednesday's Serious Business (tm) as it's my nanna's birthday. Next Wednesday hopefully.

As for other suggestions, No One Lives Forever 2: A Spy In H.A.R.M.s Way has co-op multiplayer out of the box. No idea how entertaining it is.

What, no sci-fi flight sims?? :p

    Be seeing you,

    Magnus Darcrider

Morgan, that poster is made of win.

Magnus: I'm all for flight sims. BtRL or XWA most definitely.

Zombie Master sounds good, as long as we get say 4 or 5 players, enough for a decent squad of survivors and one person to direct the zombies. It's a poor cousin to Left 4 Dead, but it'll tide us over. Seriously: Zombie Apocolypses are the perfect theme for co-op games. The other perfect theme is insane waves and waves of monsters. I can't believe I forgot about Serious Sam. It's got co-op, and in fact co-op mode has an option to add even MORE monsters, to the point of ridiculousness. I've played it split-screen with my brother and it was way too much fun. Infinite lives, what might as well be infinite ammo, and ridiculous waves of enemies in enormous environments. Classic stuff. I did at one point have a pirated version of it, but I don't seem to anymore. Shouldn't be too difficult to get one's hands on.

I'm going to jump on a little later tonight and try to get Synergy working with M_S. To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure it's going to be that great. Co-op of the HL2 campaign is cool and all, but like Sven Co-op I get the impression that the makers have thrown in grab-bags of new, "cool" features. But we'll see.

    Heh, glad it meets approval.

As a contrast to yesterday's absence of work, today I've become veritably inundated with work and will probably be staying back late, so I'm probably not going to make Serious Business this eve.

Have fun without my suicidal shenanigans chaps. [face_peace]

I, on the other hand, have had a completely rubbish day and am very serious about getting in some Serious Business tonight. I demand to either shoot zombies or play TF2 as the Heavy. That's the level of stress relief I'm looking to, and I don't expect I shall be disappointed.

Yes, I was going to prescribe massive amounts of TF2 playing. You'll feel better for it.

It's my intent to be ready for seriousness tonight, but there is a bloody great big storm over our heads, so I might miss out on tonight.

The severe storm passing over Brisbane and out MS's way (worst in the area behind archerfield/Mt Coot-tha/to Samford) will be long gone before serious business were to ensue.

Sorry I wasn't in on this Wednesday Serious business and all but I really can't be devoting my time to gaming when I gotta get up so early the next mornin.. As such, can we shift this serious gaming to another day of the week, preferebly Friday, if not then you'll all have to count me out on this gaming unless the following Thursday turns out to be a public holiday.

You all have fun though ;)

Great minds think alike, it seems. I went to schedule some Serious Business on the Steam group, but it looks like I've been beaten to the punch by Sambo. He has deftly anticipated my desire to bust out some TF2 action tonight, gawd bless 'im. Hope to see you all there.

Well I did promise I'd join in on the next one, so I'll try to be in on that :)

(Though I don't doubt I'll be running into the fray only to be gunned down instantly. Heh heh, fun times.)

Wel I tried, but dying so much does discourage one so... Was fun though, had to quit eventaullly however as I was getting much too frustrated with it. Here's to a better run next time.

P.S. Where should I build a sentry? At the tower they say? Errrr, what tower? :p

Thought the big honkin' tower situated right outside our spawn point was pretty obvious, myself. :p Don't sweat it, it's not your thing. It's all good.

I reinstalled Worms World Party to check out our online options, only to find a completely empty server list. Doesn't look like Team 17 is supporting this anymore. Has anyone had luck recently with this or Armageddon? I'm itching for more Worms.

    Okay, bad choice of words.

We should be able to do it directly, though. In theory, at least. We'll have a bash, trying to connect to a direct IP.

Or everyone buy Nintendo DSs and a copy of Worms Open Warfare 2 (which I'm ready to proclaim the greatest game on the system outside the legal adventure genre).

What's the most owned around these parts? Armageddon or World Party? The latter is very easy to find in bargain bins, but in a worst-case scenario, dubiously italicised descriptions of either should be readily available for all.

I seem to remember Goobs mentioning there still being a TetriNet scene after all these years. Maybe I've been looking in the right places, but official support seems to have dwindled. Anyone know if there's still a TetriNet - what do you kids call it? Scene?
