I think its pretty obvious that the mayor was none other than jabba the hutt. I mean, come on people, open your eyes.

I see your point but of all the people in the galaxy I don't think it was Fett. For one if Salvadore wanted it to be Fett we would of got a signal or lead about it.

 

Wow, I just spent like half an hour - 45 minutes reading this entire thing... Some of you people are weird. I loved chewie, and would gladly sacrafice any Yuuzahn Vong for him to come back... but lets see... what 6, 7 books later, he is still dead. I think that that is a sign. oh well. Fett would be cool, but unlikely, I would have to go with.... Vaders mothers long lost brothers grandchilds roommates third cousin. hehe...

Although an interesting possibility, I somehow doubt it was Boba Fett who jumped into the hole.

While maintaining standards of "honor" whilst being a bounty hunter, he never did anything (that I can think of) that constituted sacrifice, either of himself or his "standards". Even if he succeeded in something, or evaded something as a consequence of somebody or something elses actions, he never showed any sign of overwhelming gratitude as such.

I wonder what Fett is up to these days? Has there been any news of his whereabouts in the EU? Perhaps it's subject enough for another thread...

And even if it was Fett that jumped into the hole - so what. It's not like he doesn't have experience escaping from holes. I'm looking forward to that new SWG story, "Sernpidali's of Doom" where Fett escapes the crater only to end up falling back in.

 

Which is then followed by a series of novels ( Bantam re-aquires the license ) about superweapons called the Death Hammer, New Republic warlords, the Empire gaining back 3 quarters of the galaxy, the return of Palpatine after his DNA is found on the bottom of some shoe on Nar Shaddaa, General Ska'r tricking the Nagai into working as assasins, while wresting control from the Mad Jedi Elias Treebark and his New Empire forces. Of course, the Solo kids are once again captured and saved 4 times, and the fate of the galaxy again rests on the actions of Luke, Leia, Han and Lando when more "unspeakable terrors, unlike any ever previously seen", are unleashed. Oh, and the New Empire faces internal struggles and civil wars, and the 181st TIE Squadron takes back the Empire...one planet at a time, while one of their pilots learns of his heritage as a Dark Jedi.

Basically, it is Fett, sort of. I don't want to get into the details, but from Rogue Planet, Palpating knows of the Vong. He is able to get some info on them. He figures out that they mean to invade his galaxy and that the Vong he know of were scouts. So he posts sentries at all points of the Rim to watch for them. He would us his best troops at the time for this, and those would be clone troopers. Clones of Jango, of which Boba was. So in a way, it is genetically Boba Fett, but still well within continuity.

This ties together a lot of the novels, explains why the mayor had a thermal detonator, and knew much about the Vong. Also sets the stage for the Jedi to find more sentries in the future on Rim worlds, probably in novels that come after Ep. II, and have the sentries help the Jedi find the Emperor's information about the Vong and possibly weapons to fight them.

I'll be ready to accept that the mayor was Fett, but in my opinion it doesn't matter, because HE'S DEAD!!! Besides, I think that it was really Kettch, in disguise.

In all seriousness.......the mayor is the SON of none other than Anakin Solo and Tahiri!!!! Anakin's son (Anakin Jr.), using time travel goes back to Serpindal using the space/time continuum(sp) in order to prevent the planet's destruction. He is able to destroy the doval basin and get Chewbacca to safety just in the nick of time to see the planet destroyed. And by doing that he saves Chewbacca (because he isn't really dead, right?) which also saves Anakin (who isn't really dead either) from the guilt and suffering over Chewy's death that eventually leads to his own reckless demise. So now we have both Chewy and Anakin back from the dead.......LOL
