I don't really consider JP and SW on the same level. I was never into the last trilogy, it was all just too fake and super dumb even for a dinosaur movie, but all I really care about JP is dinos and fun. SW has way more lore going on with it that interests me on a deeper level. The new JP movie has me more interested than anything the Chris Pratt movies ever offered but who knows how it will turn out. Repetitive most likely. But maybe fun at least.

That said, while I don't think the next SW movie needs to be the biggest movie of all time...it needs to be big enough to prove its worth and show people that SW is back and LFL knows what they're doing.

This isn't normal times. SW is on the ropes. There hasn't been a movie in 5-6 years since the saga. And although that last movie made a billion its not exactly a highlight of the franchise. The steep downward BO trend of the ST was not promising, and the story itself basically left them in a creative dead end and insecurity on what to actually make next. (The tv series have been spotty. Some great. Some good. Some...really not good at all.)

If the outcome is great movie but low BO, cuz fans or GA just didn't turn out, we're not in any better territory. Sagging sales is not going to get more SW made. And it might just continue to doubt what actually sells anymore.

If the outcome is eh movie, but somehow large BO, we're not in better territory either. Basically another ST movie. That's not going to save SW either because the fandom still doesn't want to buy the product. For whatever reasons they have.

The next movie can still be a modestly scaled story. It doesn't need to be some epic space opera, but 'just good movie' is not going to right the ship alone. It might even continue the downward or flatlining trajectory that we're currently in.

It's not exactly fair that so much is going to be placed upon this next movie. But that's where things are at, and LFL only has themselves to blame here. A lot is on the line here, and at least, they seem to know it.

To be fair, though, we could have said the exact same thing back in the early 2000s. The prequels were not well-received, fans were constantly complaining about Lucas being inept with his own franchise, and the only new SW movie on the horizon was a cartoon about the Clone Wars with animation that looked way below the standards set by big-budget animated movies. So, in a way, it IS normal times.... people being upset with the direction of the franchise has been standard since 1999. Not saying that that makes things any better now, just that it's nothing new. One of the main reasons people got so excited about TFA wasn't so much because people were still passionate about SW in its current state, but because all the marketing made it sound like a return to what SW used to be.

I don't think it's about righting the ship completely... it's more about a course correction that starts to turn them in the right direction. 180 as opposed to 360 let's say...

Not the same thing. No one was concerned that there wasn't a market for Star Wars after the PT. It wasn't even a topic of conversation. Fan dissent is a constant. General audience disengagement and apathy not so much.

The new Jurassic Park looks like the best entry in the franchise since the original.

It's hard to tell. It could go either way. Also, the bar isn't very high after the original.

It’s Edwards, though, so it’ll at least be visually better than all of them. And it’ll be anything but mediocre. And it has actors like Rupert Friend and Scarlett Johansson.

And it featured the return of the original characters too, that alone got so much goodwill from fans and generated the hype, but they blew it big time.
SW is far from being dead IMO. I think they lost their way with the films and that, as you say, is down to the dead end they ran in to with the ST.

The Lost World is the sequel to beat and none of them since have even beaten how good that one is. Very underrated IMO.

I like The Lost World, but Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has one of the most heartbreaking scenes ever made, in all of cinema - and it was a visual effects shot. That's the moment where the franchise peaked as art, as far as I'm concerned. They'll never top it... though they might be able to reach the same height again, in an overall stronger movie.

Oh, the larger dinosaurs being left behind on the beach as the volcano erupted? Uggh, that was heartwrenching.

Fallen Kingdom is all kinds of terrible, but J. A. Bayona directed the hell out of a bad script.
I absolutely agree that the Brachiosaur in the inferno is a brilliant and heartbreaking shot.

Yeah, that scene in Fallen Kingdom is heartbreaking. Especially since its a callback to the first Jurrasic Park film as well. Is not the Brachiosaur the same one seen in the beginning of Jurassic Park, or am i wrong?

Jurassic World Dominion however - that is one of the worst blockbusters i have seen over the last 20 years.

Regarding the Chinoy film: With the new comments from George Nolfi - i am starting to think that its the political issues ( and antagonist/ enemy problem) that its the hard part here to knock down. Remember that Chinoy was probably chosen because of her background with political documentaries. And her wish, to work with some serious political story elements for her Star Wars movie as well. There are more than enough material from our own world right now - to work with - as to mirror it in a Star Wars film - but maybe they are afraid to both be political correct and and the same time not really offering a new villain they think can match Empire / Sith.

I don't like The Lost World, so I'm still waiting for a good one. I actually prefer JP3 from the sequels we've gotten, and that one is still very flawed.

Nice to hear Daisy is staying up to date on behind the scenes developments.
I really hope the script for this movie gives her a little more to dig her acting chops into than the ST did.

What a pile of corporate nonsense… why doesn’t she just admit it’s been a struggle getting this thing off the ground? Why come up with this ‘this is the best way we can tell this story” drivel? It won’t make it any better.

What else is she supposed to say? If she says “yeah the story sucks and that’s why there’s been so many rewrites,” Disney would blacklist her/ maybe even sue her for defamation.
