But I am excited to have colors!:D

@Healer_Leona -- I would like something autumnal (some combo of fall leaf colors or black/gold--whatever you think might go with my post-Halloween avatar, which will be my "hedgehog peering out from fall leaves" one) Thanks!

And thanks to IATI for running the game!

    Oh, oops--maybe I don't? I actually wasn't sure.

Oh well, if not, just my virtual tiara of shame will be enough:p

We can play video games, my only problem is that the ones I played were recommendations by sj, Ramza and Jedi Ben, so don't expect big plot twists from me.

Not that it matters, but I have not read Catcher in the Rye either.

Video games will be fun round.

    I lied. Let's start sign-ups 11-15 instead of 12-1. I need a two week break, not a full month.

While we're waiting for the 15th..., @Pensivia, do you plan on reading The Hobbit at some point?

Personally I read it for the first time sometime AFTER 2003 (aka after the 3 main LOTR movies), but way BEFORE 2012 (aka before the first of the 3 Hobbit movies came out.) I found the book quite enjoyable because I was able to picture the events and people a lot better with the LOTR movies in my head as reference. I could hear Sir Ian McKellen in my head, and John-Rhys-Davies voice representing the many Dwarves until the book showed their own personalities. I could even imagine/hear a young Ian Holm playing young Bilbo. I recall it being a quick read too so I would definitely recommend it over watching the 3 Hobbit movies - which is saying a lot because 9/10 I'd rather watch it than read it.

Yeah I also went through that same sequence, and I also visualized the characters as I saw them in the LOTR films.

Funnily enough, I read Dune, then I watched the David Lynch film, and then after that I read Dune: Messiah (the second book). And as I was going through the second book, I found myself visualizing them the characters as they appeared in the film. So even though these were familiar characters and I knew who they were, their on-screen film appearance is the one that stuck in my head.

Frodo actually becomes the dark lord of Middle Earth, it’s pretty ****ed up and that’s why the films were so different. You might sometimes hear people complaining about how Peter Jackson didn’t include “The Scouring of the Shire” - that’s actually a 200 page sequence detailing Frodo leading an army of orcs to slaughter all of the hobbits in hideous detail, but it’s also Tolkien’s most experimental passage because it’s all done as brief descriptions of the various hobbits and the precise manner in which they were killed. Chilean novelist Roberto Bolaño would later pay tribute to this memorable chapter in his unfinished final novel, 2666, in a section appropriately entitled «La parte de los crímenes» - “The Part about the Crimes.”

The Scouring of the Shire is the most famous and accurate depiction of fascism in fantasy literature. There's a whole chapter where Frodo is yelling "MERRRRRYYYYY" while Merry is lying on the floor, sobbing.

For your further amusement--I don't even know if I know exactly what his mission was...I know it has to do with needing to throw the ring into a volcano or something. And something to do with an evil being named Sauron (who appears as a giant eye?). And that a dragon named Smaug is also involved somehow.

The only thing I remember from seeing one of the LOTR films (I think it was the middle one) was a bunch of armies fighting, fighting, and more fighting. Along with Cate Blanchett as an elf queen all in white.:p

If you have HBO Max, @Pensivia please watch all three LotR movies. Not in one sitting and not the extended versions...at first.

Nah, I'd say watch the extended versions first. Speaking of which, I need to do that.
