I've read in "George Lucas" by Jim Smith (Virgin films) about Attack of the Clones, that the grave of Shmi can be seen on Star Wars (A New Hope) outside the Lars homestead.

After a couple of viewings, both the original realease and the Special Edition, I still can't find it.

Has someone seen this clearly ? is that true ?

    Thanks.

I don't remember seeing it in the 97 or 2004 SE releases of ANH, not that I've really been looking for it.

However there was a newer print of the movie screened a while back (like 2005 or 2006 or something like that) where one reviewer noticed further enhancements from the 2004 release, so it's possible this person here saw that newer print or an even newer print.

I didn't know that there existed newer prints, thanks.

Anyway, this book is dated of 2003, so the author is referring either to the 1977 original release or the 1997 Special Edition; he even adds "astonishingly" about this, which indeed would be really extraordinary.

It's probably just a silly rumor the author heard and mentioned without checking himself, as I've never heard of this anywhere else, or maybe he spoted something that looks like the grave but is not.

I'll take a closer look at ANH shot by shot to check it out.

I don't think it is there. Likewise I've never seen it or read anything about the grave being added to Ep IV. I've seen a couple of articles detailing changes to the OT, including the one they had on sw.com, and they've never mentioned it.

However, it has also been said officially (in the Insider magazine I think) that Owen removed the gravestones some time after Luke was brought to the farm. So there's definitely an implication that the grave would not be visible in ANH. I suppose the author did just listen to some questionable information, or heard or suspected that Lucas may make such an addition in a future release.

I've just checked it out carefully : there is definitely nothing that ressembles more or less the graves on the few scenes with large views of the farm, where they should be according to Episode 2.

The most bewildering here is that the author refers to "Star Wars", which means the 1977 version and just seems completely silly, and mention it as "astonishing"...

Really weird, as everything else stated in this book is reliable.

It's there, but the Sandcrawler crushed it!
And in anger, Shmi's ghost causes R5-D4's malfunction [face_skull]

Tatooine Ghost says that Owen removed Shmi's (and Cliegg's) gravestones.

Bizarre claim to make, sounds like he saw something else & misinterpreted it. Is it possible that there were gravestones on the original set of the Lars homestead? Perhaps to emphasise the frontier nature of the place, where a family might have to bury their dead on their own land, like in a Western?

Either that, or he's trying to create an urban myth similar to the one which says that in one shot from The Wizard Of Oz you can see the corpse of one of the Munchkin actors who committed suicide, hanging from a tree in the background.

This should be canonized! It's brilliant, and fits perfectly with what we see on screen! =D=

Don't know about canonized, but some EU author probably saw this and is already hard at work on a novel called "Revenge of the Chosen One's Mother."

I think its fair to say that Owen removed the Grave sites because He did not want luke to know about he Fathers past.

I always wonder what are the other grave sites then of Shmi Skywalkers'?

"Before the onset of the Clone Wars, two tombstones could be seen outside the homestead: one for Edern Lars, Cliegg's brother, and the other for Shmi Skywalker. By the end of the Clone Wars, however, they were removed.[2]"

No, no, R5-D4 just used the Force (with his midichloroxians) to see what would've happened if R2 wasn't bought, so he malfunctioned.
