When Disney acquired Lucasfilm, one of the discussions that came up was whether or not Disney would have their studio logo display before the The Force Awakens. Of course since then all Star Wars movies have just had the Lucasfilm logo and then the movie starts. The problem I've had with that is, the Lucasfilm opening is just boring on its own. Historically, Lucasfilm got away with the vanilla opening because they had either 20th Century Fox or Paramount's opening to piggy back on. I wouldn't mind some of animated opening that blends Stars Wars and Indiana Jones with John Williams music with an image shows Skywalker ranch with the rolling green hills. This would help with the upcoming Indiana Jones which used to use the Paramount mountain to blend in with an image to open the movie. Just curious what everyone's thoughts are.
interestingly, whenever i see the Lucasfilm logo, I know that is a Star Wars film; I've only associated the opening Lucasfilm logo with Star Wars. The logo has probably appeared elsewhere, but not in my mental association with the logo.
It did appear in the last Indiana Jones movie in 2008. They arranged so it appeared before the Paramount logo so they could use the mountain to dissolve into the opening shot of the movie. I believe Red Tails had the Lucasfilm logo as well though it's been a while since I saw that movie.
If Disney owns 20th Century Fox...they should add that fanfare before the Lucasfilm logo...then I'll be happy!
Personally, I dislike it when even the THX logo is "customized" ahead of a Star Wars project (i.e. 2D Clone Wars). Something about it feels off-brand. If they were to update it, it would have to be across the board for all of SW.
I'm fine with the logo. But it is an odd start to the movies. You have all the pre-movie adverts, then the lights get a bit darker, and the Lucasfilm logo is silently twinkling green... It can almost take you by surprise that the movie has started. They do need that old Twentieth Century Fox theme announcing "Guys! We're starting now!"
Points for nostalgia, but I prefer the first non-company name text at the opening to begin with “A long time ago...”
That's what I want. They can insert it back into the films they've made so far with Disney while they're at it. We've dealt with plenty of changes to the OT over the years, this wouldn't be new.
This will not happen even with DIsney owning 20th Century Fox. These movies were not made by 20th Century Fox like the old ones, so it makes no sense to add the Fox fanfare to them in future Bluray releases.
