@Kit' Bon voyage! Our family has been on several Disney cruises, and I have seldom had trouble with seasickness. I have used Sea Bands anti-nausea wrist bands (sort of terry cloth wrist bands with a accu-pressure plastic bead that is supposed to push on a nerve that keeps you from feeling nauseous). I think they probably sell them on the ship if you’re feeling queasy.

The Disney ships themselves are fabulous. We have always enjoyed the theater presentations and the entertainment…and the food (so. Much. Food. Seriously, they will let you order multiple entrees if you want!) I feel like I actually get to relax when we go on a cruise, because everything is right there and the hardest choice is which activities you want to do.

Yesterday was a public holiday over here and my friend let us have her family home in a small village in the northern Peloponnese for the long weekend. This being southern Greece, the weather is still quite mild, so we were even able to have a dip in the sea without freezing our butts off Except on the first day of course, when the sea seemed lovely from a distance, but when we got to the beach we saw that a #[(%ùµ$£!! jerk had emptied his boat's septic tank in the sea and there was a puddle of yucky goo floating towards the coast We spent some time on the beach choosing pretty pebbles instead, and judging by the weight of my little boy's bag last night when we got home, it looks like we brought enough of that beach back with us that our long weekend will last well into the winter.

I remember visiting the Pelepponese on my first trip to Greece and luckily did not see any septic material like that. I really enjoyed the tour that I went on.

 

Well I’m off the boat and now sitting in my hotel room feeling like I’m still moving even though I’m sitting still.

Don't know how many here are interested in the Warhammer worlds but Games Workshop's publishing bransh is right now having an open submission for anybody that wants to try to send them a story following their instructions: Black Library Open Submission 2025 – Write your two favourite characters into a scene - Warhammer Community

 

I keep finding stories that are published on AO3 but not here, or here but not there...or stories that got eaten by the boards in the move, that I can only find half of and don't remember...and suddenly I feel like I'm biting off way more than I can chew trying to sync up both (or at least within the bounds of what each website allows).

 

I’m working on putting my stuff on ao3 because of the truncation history. I have complete versions of some of my favorite stuff from here that people have asked for.

I’ve moved since being in here last and thank goodness. I’m now within walking distance of Boston and share a 3-storey house with four other people, taking the street-view bedroom on the third floor. It’s sometimes really hard on my recovering ankle.

 

it's been a really rotten past few months for me. Work has been really, really stressful for me. My father's health worsened and he died on September 24th. It's just really ****ing sucked.

 

@RK_Striker_JK_5 , my condolences for your loss. Having more work stress on top of that is rotten, sorry to hear that's going on.

My military son is coming home from deployment next week. He didn't get to travel as much as he wanted. Since he was deployed and not stationed there, he had restrictions on his movement. He didn't get to Greece like he wanted to, but he did see Latvia, Germany and Italy, so that is cool. I am going down to Texas (Fort Cavazos) to see him when he returns to his home base.

I haven't written anything for years. I bought a subscription to the App Voice Dream (text to speech) and downloaded fanfics and sometimes listen to them in the car or when cleaning the house. I used to have the App Speechify which has better voices, but they don't tell you there is a word limit for the good voices. Once that limit is reached a weird robot voice takes over. If Voice Dream has a limit I have not reached it yet. Has Disney put out any good TV shows lately?

 

Welcome back @Jedi_Lover! I vaguely recall one of your kids moving to California. How's that kid doing?

 

The California son is doing ok. Every year he moves to a better rental and a better job. He is also taking college classes.

 

That’s great. California is a hard place to afford to live. I remember being in a one-bedroom apartment in the Valley for $1200 a month in 2002. I can’t imagine prices now.

I still like my new apartment. The old place wouldn’t let me bring visitors to the house and this month, I’ve had a game night, hung out with friends from church, and had a sleepover with a friend who went with me to the ballet. It’s so different and that’s a good thing.

 

I'm allowed to have visitors and I don't care. Except for 2-4 brief visits from Mom each year (brief as in 30-60 minutes), no one is in my apartment ever except myself and the maintenance workers, and the latter mostly for the quarterly HVAC filter change (the HVAC closet in our apartments where the filter is located is locked so only maintenance can access it) as I have very few actual maintenance issues.
