Note: I believe this would be considered extreme AU---consider the EU invalid in this fic. Jade_eyes thing inspired me to write this story about an original Skywalker character named Cassidy Jade Skywalker.

Disclaimer: Star Wars belongs to the Mouse.

She was the only daughter of Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade Skywalker younger sister to Ben Skywalker, niece to Leia Organa Solo and Han Solo, and cousin to Jacen, Jaina and Anakin. She was the jewel of her father's life; having a daughter was so different experience than having a son. She was so delicate the first time he had held her in his arms and he vowed never to let her go.

The day she was born had been the third best day in his life---the first being his marriage to Mara and the second Ben's birth. Mara had been in labor with her for exactly thirty six hours. It had lasted so long that Luke had begun to worry, despite the conditions Ben hadn't taken so long to be born, he had thought.

Then when she arrived into the world, all pink and precious and sweet smelling.

He would admit he doted on her more than he had Ben. Han had simply smiled. It was natural he had told his friends, that's when he had learned how different it was to have a girl and a boy.

She seemed to change his very world.

I just wanted to test this out. These will be short type viggies, that will lend itself to a introduction of the character little by little. The meaning behind the title will be revealed later on. I figure since after the movies come out..EU "canon" will be null and void. Hope you enjoyed it.

Luke and Mara should have had a daughter. I would have liked to see Luke relate to a daughter.

Well, Luke will have plenty to deal with, especially when she gets older and she decided what she wants to be when she grows up.

^^Funny, JL, I always thought the same thing. When we found out Mara was pregnant, I always assumed it would be a girl and I have no idea why.

I think Luke was hoping for a girl. Cause he was like..she. And Mara was the one that insisted it was a boy..or so she thought.

Delight! I love Luke's reaction to his girl coming into the world. Spoiled plumb rotten, that's what she'll be. Also like her name. Very pretty. Skydancer -- makes me think of two very interesting career choices right off. [face_laugh]

Thanks to all so far, Jedi_Lover, SiouxFan, and Jade_eyes.

I love writing moments where Luke looks after his children, because I know that he's a good dad, despite how the EU did him wrong. I decided I wanted him to have a girl to and heck with the EU. He will spoil her rotten as daddy's often do. I think following this I'll start exploring the difference of having a girl versus a boy. Boy is Luke in for it.

Luke could hear Cassidy crying in the background as he fixed her bottle.

“I’m coming, Sweetheart.” He called out as if the infant could understand him. “Daddy’s coming.” He secured the nipple onto the bottle then tested it out on his wrist. “All right..” He murmured, then retreated to the livingroom.

He’d brought Cassidy’s bassinet out into the livingroom so he could finish up a few more reports, but the little girl wasn’t having any of that.

    “All right, Cas, Daddy’s hear.”
He crossed over to the white laced bassinet and bent down to pick her up. He cradled her carefully in his left arm while he offered her the bottle with his right hand. She continued to let out loud, unhappy cries until her mouth had found the nipple. She latched on greedily and began sucking vigorously at her bottle.

Her crying had stopped for the time being.

“There we go, that’s what you wanted wasn't it:?”

He began to carefully pace back and forth, watching her eat.

“Dad?” A small voice came from behind him.

Luke turned to witness his five year old son standing in the doorway to his room, rubbing his eyes. He was wearing pajamas that had a Ewok pattern on them.

“Hey, champ.” Luke whispered. “Did I wake you?”

“No,” Ben walked out. “It was the baby.”

    “Ah,”

The eldest Skywalker sibling walked forward.

    “Why she crying?” He asked.

    “She’s hungry, Ben.” He explained.

    “Now?”

“Yes,” Luke walked over to the flowform couch and sat down. He beckoned for Ben to join him. His young son climbed onto the sofa next to his father, obviously still sleepy. “You see, babies are hungry when they’re hungry. They don’t have a concept of time.”

“Is she gonna go to bed after this?

Luke smiled. “Well, that’s up to her, Ben.” He looked down at Cassidy and saw the bottle was half empty. “Most likely after she’s full she will.” Luke had at least one child’s worth of experience with this sort of thing, so he’d like to think he could predict these things. But children could be unpredictable at times.

Ben was examining the baby for a bit more before he pushed himself off the couch.

“Well, I’m gonna go to my bed.” He mumbled.

“All right.” Luke shifted the baby. “Do you want me to tuck you in?”

Ben stopped. He had a look on his face as if considering his father’s offer. Luke looked to the boy expectantly.

    “I guess so.” He said.

“Okay, I’ll be in a second.” Luke noticed that Cassidy was no longer sucking on the bottle. She was done. “I’m going to burp your sister and put her down, then I’ll be in. Okay?”

Ben looked at him. It was apparent the little boy was unsure; Ben had been any only child for five years of his life until Cassidy was born. Luke had read that sometimes older siblings became jealous of their new brother or sister. There were times when he would swear that he could see those tendencies in Ben, but at the same time, he could see genuine interest for the baby on his son’s part.

    “Ben?”

“A’right.” He mumbled and disappeared into his room.

Luke looked down at his daughter and noticed the little girl’s eyes were shutting. He smiled lovingly then gently shifted the baby up to his shoulder. He set the bottle down and raised his right hand to pat her on the back. “Okay, little girl, let’s hear a nice burp out of you.”

He paced back and forth as he patted her back. It took about ten seconds. Cassidy let out an audible burp which made her father smile.

    “There we go.”
He patted her back awhile longer until he heard two more. Sensing, Cassidy had finished he slowly shifted her back down into his arms. Her eyes were closed by now—or on their way there, he couldn’t tell. He carefully laid her back down in the bassinet with practiced ease.

He drew back carefully examining the baby as she fought sleep.

Luke chuckled softly, “Don’t fight it, sweetheart. Sleep.”

He reached down as if to touch her but immediately drew back. No, he wouldn’t push his luck.

    “Goodnight, little Skydancer.”

Why does everybody in the SW universe have kids that sleep? Let's see the colicky Force-user baby that screams all night unless you drive him around the neighborhood at 3AM in the skyspeeder. And when you finally get the baby asleep you bring her inside the house still strapped in the car carrier and then you wonder if you should take the child out of the removable car seat or just let them sleep that way. You decide to let the kid sleep but then she poops her diaper and starts screaming again.

I have a feeling that Luke is using the Force to get that kid to sleep. o_O

Maybe because I have two boys 17 months apart and the first one I don't think he slept through the night until he became a teenager.

JL, [face_laugh] you are a riot. [:D] Emerald: thanks for giving Luke a bit of parental relief with a calm infant in this post ;) and I do think you nailed the older brother that was an only child reaction excellently. =D= It comes through that Ben is feeling kind of at loose ends with not getting all the attention.

Note: This skips ahead a bit.

“Mara, Mara,” Luke hollered excitedly.”Get the holocam.”

    “What? What’s going?”

“It’s Cassidy, I think she’s trying to walk.”

Luke heard the pounding of feet as his wife came through the kitchen door, drying a dish with a dish towell. She scanned the livingroom and spotted their daughter, trying to make her way to her feet. She was gripping the side of the flow form couch in her diaper with a lavender shirt and matching bow in her, reddish-blonde hair. Her chubby little legs bowed as she struggled for footing in her white socks.

"Oh, my, starr” Mara set the towel and dish aside, “Be right back.” She murmured, turned to go fetch the holocam.

Luke watched his daughter feel her way along the couch, tingling excitement shooting through him.

“That’s it, Sweetheart,” He whispered, eyes shining. “Cassidy.” He called out softly. “Look at Daddy, Cas.” She turned unsteadily, one hand still gripping the seat cushions.

Luke saw his wife walk into view out of the corner of his eye. Her eyes were wide with surprise and wonder, just as they had been when it had been Ben taking his first steps. She had the holocam in hand, and was smiling from ear to ear.

He remained crouched in place as she and he watched Cassidy tentatively took a few steps away from the couch. Her tiny hand hung in midair.

“That’s it, Cas, come to Daddy.”

The little girl looked from her mother to her father. Luke beckoned Cassidy with his outstretched hands and gentle voice. Mara watched the little girl’s expression change as she squealed with delight. If there was one thing Mara had learned it was that Cassidy love her father immensely. You could feel it in the Force and see it in the way her eyes seemed to light up.

She took another step forward, rocking back slightly on her heel, and Mara gasped fearing she would fall, but she regained her balance and took another small step instead. Mara’s grip had tightened on the holocam when saw her child wobble slightly, but loosened it when the child righted herself.

    That’s my girl. Mara thought.

As she said this, she felt her husband’s presence in the Force. It was bright like a supernova. She could feel his joy and excitement radiating.

Mara moved in slowly behind her husband.

“That’s it, Cassidy.” She called out softly, yet encouragingly.

The little girl squealed again at the sight of her mother.

    She took another step forward.

“You’re getting this right?” Luke whispered.

Mara nodded, moving to the arm of the chair, cam grasped in her hand still. She remembered so vividly when Ben first learned to walk. Luke had been filming that time. She remembered the surge of happiness she felt when her son had fallen into her arms after completing his short journey. Now, it was his baby sister’s turn.

Cassidy was easily three more steps away from her parents. A little closer to Luke’s outstretched hands.

“Just a few more steps, sweetie.” Luke crooned.

The little girl focused once more on her father. Her cheeks puffing out as her face split in a smile. Cassidy gurgled happily and took a few more steps until she stumbled
    haphazardly into his warm embrace.

    Luke grinned broadly.

“That’s my girl.” He whispered against her hair.

Mara set the holocam aside and kneeled down next to her husband, stroking her baby’s head.

“That’s my girl.” She heard Luke whisper once more.

Note: Decided to write this next piece.

Luke watched his two children play on the floor while he looked over some important documents. Well, Ben was trying to play, his sister was intent on taking what toys of his she find. Though she was thwarted every chance she got; Ben would block her in some manner or the other. He had grown older but sharing his toys with his baby sister was still not his preference
    .
"No, Cassidy." Ben said, taking away an X-wing models from her.

Cassidy let out a petulant cry.

    Luke sighed heavily.

"Ben, let Cassidy have one toy."

Ben, who had been an only child for five years of his life, looked slightly put off by his father's suggestion.

"She only gets them all slobbery."

"She does not do that anymore."

"She'll break them." He insisted. "She has her own toys anyway."

"She wants to play with you. You're her big brother." He watched the little girl's face turning red. "And right now," He got up. "You're frustrating her."

The boy sighed, not looking happy and obviously still reluctant to share his models.

"Why does she want to play with me anyway?" He said dejectedly.

"Because you're her big brother." Luke said softly crouching down. "She has no one else to play with, Ben. You may not know it, and it might not seem like it, but your littler sister looks up to you. You're her protector."

"Like a Jedi?" He said slowly, considering this title.

"In a way, you protect and care for your sister who is much smaller and weaker than you. But that's not only what a good Jedi does, Ben, it's what a good brother does too."

Ben looked at his sister who had a landspeeder grasped in her hands. He then considered the toy he had taken away. He got up and crawled over to his sister on his hands and knees.

"Here you go, Cas." He kissed on the forehead, handing her the toy.

Note: Decided to write this while I had nothing to do on vaca.

Luke stared at the little girl then looked at the clothes. He didn’t know anything about this sort of stuff, color coordinating and clothes were Mara’s domain. She was the colorful one. He looked at Cassidy and picked up one outfit then the other. There was a peach romper, a blue dress, reddish-purple shirt short combo. He stood back scratching his head in consternation. For some reason, it had been so much easier to dress Ben; with little girls it was more difficult however.

Cassidy sat in her crib playing with her toy all the while watching her father move around. Luke was very aware of the infant’s attentions despite his not being able to feel her in the Force. It disheartened him a little, that he could never feel such a unique feeling from her but he pushed on.

“So what do you think, Cas?” Luke asked, not really talking to her. “Shall we go with the romper...or the dress?”

    Of course Cassidy couldn’t respond.

Luke sighed. “Let’s go with the romper. I think mommy would like that.”

After deciding that, the next task was finding the correct shoes, socks and hair piece. More coordinating was involved. He decided to forgo the shoes; she tended to kick them off anyhow. He shrugged, putting them back in the closet. He chose white socks with peach heals and toes. For the hair bow piece he chose a similarly colored one.

    “Okay, Cas, let’s do this.”

Luke leaned down to picky Cassidy out of her crib, when suddenly a smell hit him. He scrunched his nose.

“But first, looks like we have to change you.”

Luke carried her over to the changing table and got to work. Changing her was as hard as changing Ben had been, but she still tended to kick thus making things difficult.

“I see you’re enjoying this.” He commented.

Well, at least he didn’t have to deal with the impromptu sprinkler system.

He finally was able to get a new diaper on her, after promptly disposing of the dirty one.

After he had changed her he resumed his task of dressing her. He slipped the romper on, making sure to button all snaps, then he slipped on her matching socks. When he had finished with her socks, he got out her hair brush and started to fix her hair.

This was the most challenging process for him. It wasn’t that Cassidy moved, it was that fixing a girls’ hair was foreign to him. Mara never let him touch her hair in that capacity, she said when it came to a woman’s hair he was all thumbs. The only way he could ever touch her hair was if it wasn’t for the purpose of styling.

He pursed his lips, working on pulling all her red-blonde hair into a tail on the top of her. Some tendrils would slip and he would have to comb them back. After battling with it for a few seconds, he managed to work the tie up into her hair. It required many loops to keep the hair up; he learned if he left it too slack the hair would end up unraveling and he would have to start the whole process all over again.

Satisfied with his work, he stepped back and looked Cassidy over. She was the picture of sweetness.

He picked her up then and gathered her bag

“There we go. Now you’re ready to go see mommy.”

Cassidy inserted the ear of the stuffed animal in her mouth sucking on it. He chuckled at the sight.

    Oh... It's so sweet...
I remembered how my dad didmy hair. All he coul do was a pony tail.
Thought Luke will be more skilled - after all he can keep slipping curls with the Force :) But I doubt Mara will like that idea. Why things should be easy for farmboy?

P.S. Luke can ask Corran for advise - as far as I concerned he has daughter too. Or Han - this man never had the Force to help him.
