Okay, what on earth was I wasting my time doing, to miss the Dune forum?? Darn it.

 

We're getting back into Dune mania again soon, I think.

Thing is, we could get to live Dune.

All that would have to happen is for the immunization development not to go as planned, which could happen.

Think of the scenario- plagued by disease and baked by global warming, helplessly beset by a reelected Trump who becomes much like the Baron of the Harkonnens, earth becomes Arrakis.

 

Mad Max would be more fun.
Cooler cars.

I had an actual Mad Max Ford Falcon XB. It was a big awful old lump of sheet metal with a rattling engine that I spent 3 times what I paid for it keeping it working.

The fuel gauge didn't work, so I would often run out of petrol and I had to the walk to a station to fill up a can.
The door had to be opened by reaching in the window and opening it from the inside.
The radio was a hole in the dashboard that I filled in with a styrofoam block painted to look like a radio.
But it had a bench seat, which when you are young, penniless and in love, means she can snuggle over... like they sing in that Cake song.

So... yeah.

Doing a Battlestar Galactica binge.

 

What sucks about the nuclear apocalypse is that without society and production, none of those cars would be able to replace parts, which means there would soon be no parts, and therefore no cars or any other functional machinery (gas, oil?), but Mad Max is a fun story anyway. Viral apocalypse is better in a way, because you get to drive your cars until society slowly withers away.

I liked Galactica.. Only thing I didn't like was the ending, but the show in general was good (the 2000's one I man).

 

I did a rewatch at the start of our covid lockdown. Will never get tired of watching Edward James Olmos try to save humanity.

 

But, sigh, so many serious episodes about politics, but without all weird aliens in the Senate.

Good Lord, that Snowspeeder Pilot Luke is an incredible figure.
