Lit So if the EU was still going right now where do you think they would be?

Starkiller works completely different in the TFA novelization - it doesn't suck energy from the sun. It uses "dark energy."

    Poe meets Rey in TFA.

Rey tries to bargain for a higher price for BB-8.

it was, because the book was written on an earlier script, because it came out at the exact same time as the movie

Those seemingly contradictory bits of lore had already been merged by the TFA Visual Dictionary long before either TLJ or Solo, by establishing that Han and Lando were playing the "Corellian Spike" version of sabacc that does indeed use dice along with cards. Now, what kind of casino would allow Han to use dice he brought in himself, I don't know, you'll have to ask the writers of Solo that one [face_laugh]
These are more like the kinds of variances novelizations always have from the source material than actual contradictions. You could spend all day listing things like that. And the thing is, who knows which version "actually happened." Maybe Rey did try to bargain for a higher price!

That’s what I thought, I only remember cards in the sabbac scenes

Yeah, not going to lie but canon scabbac is kinda lame compared to legends, no shifts just makes it less exciting.

They are contradictions. Everyone is going to say what happened in the movie is real, that’s the canon tier. Same with the Ahsoka stuff.

Everyone except the creators, who haven't suggested anything of the sort. Tiers exist only in the misaligned expectations of the fandom, which hasn't adjusted to the "based on a true story" paradigm yet.
We only saw cards, but to be fair, we also saw only about a minute or so of that final sabacc game. The dice rolling could have happened before the film jumps to Han's all-in (which would track with how the dice in Corellian Spike sabacc are used, per Wookieepedia).
I miss the fun "Mindharp of Sharu"-style shifting cards too, but thankfully canon has left that door open by establishing an endless variety of sabacc variants, some of which would surely include the traditional shifting cards and interference field. No reason they couldn't bring backthat version at some point in the future.

This month will be the Tenth Anniversary of the decanonization of the EU my main Star Wars Canon is incredible that after 10 years there are still fans who continue talking about the lore of that old Star Wars Universe

Well for some people it was extremely special to them because through much of its existence (minus from '99-'05) there were no movies or live action TV shows going on. Just the books and an animated show aimed largely at preteens.

Has anyone read HandofThrawn45’s Legends continuation fanfics? I typically avoid fanfics, but I’ve heard his are pretty good

Some people here think they are good.

    I am unimpressed

    spoilers about it
No Benstara (she gets a redemption = death) Alana is a big hero, the Jedi fight Darth Krayt on Zenomia Sekot. Jacen comes back and then dies again.
Not really what I am after in a fix fic, I think the author has too much respect for Denning to do what is best for the post-njo.

Gotcha, would you say they’re more for people who enjoyed the Denningverse than for those who didn’t?

It seems to be a continuation of it, but likely not as horrid (over all). I hate the Denningverse and the fic offered me nothing I want so I didn't go too deep.

I may steer clear of it then, I’d much prefer a rewrite of the post-NJO, pre-Legacy timeframe than a Denningverse continuation

It’s interesting given it’s been ten years now since the official decanonization.

Ten years before 2014 was 2004-it was just after the NJO had ended.

I think you’d have seen a lot of plots probably wrapped up, as far as the post NjO was concerned. How far in the timeline they’d have gotten is hard to say, but they’d be getting closer and closer to Legacy. though I could also see them slow balling it-entire series taking place in less than a single IU year, to buy time and avoid having to make major plot advances. Sooner or later they’d have to had to tie things to Legacy, or just make the leap and de facto decanonize it.

I think we’d have seen a similar amount of clone wars era material-and a lot of tie in between TCW content and legends stuff. Probably similar for TFU and the SWTOR game. The Yuuzhan Vong war would probably have gotten more attention, at least in comic form.

We’d have gotten a much more detailed dawn of the Jedi series, and Legacy Volume 2? Who knows, the timeline of SW legends would probably have advanced at least a decade’s worth.

One of the things where the decanonization was tragic was-the essential guides. They had basically “filled in” the lore gaps. As far as overall history and such were concerned and we had begun to see that integrated. Maybe we might have gotten a Pius Dea related book. Especially if the dawn of the Jedi stuff did well-I could see both Del Rey and Dark Horse being willing to explore ancient SW with actual books and comics.

The nature of how the EU was written would have changed-fans could now interact pretty easily with authors on Twitter and elsewhere. There would be constant feedback, some of it useful, some of it misleading or bad. So the way EU works would be discussed and marketed, would have changed.

All in all, I think it would be a mixed bag. Some of the flaws of the EU were structural or were due to prior bad writing decisions that weren’t going to be selectively overwritten. Other things could have improved-new blood, feedback, perhaps shifts in sale volumes.

Come to think of it, a future in which legends is still going is also probably one where Underworld was created, which from the sounds of it would have created at least as many continuity issues as TCW, if not more. Then we would be arguing about that.

I think it’s honestly a hypothetical, Legends would have been overwritten sooner or later. Even without a Disney buyout.

The status quo circa 2013 was unsustainable. Unless of course SW just completely faded as an IP-being reduced to books and comics.

You would have been reading about Jaina Solo's grandkids by now. Though it was made official ten years ago it was pretty obvious for about a year or so prior to that that it was going to happen.
