So why won't they let you flush the toilet after you've peed in the cup?

    Today I had to go for drug screening, TB test, etc. for the new job I was just hired for. The nurse hands me the cup, squirts blue stuff into the toilet, and then tells me not to flush the toilet or wash my hands.

    What's the deal? Are they afraid I'll flush away the evidence? 8-}

    How would not flushing the toilet stop you from cheating?

    How would I know I never had to be screened for drugs...

    They're probably afraid that you'll try to dilute your own urine with water.

    That's why the toilet water was blue, and why they wouldn't let you flush or turn on the faucet.

    Even being diluted, wouldn't any drugs still show up in the test results?

    Go work for a hospital SithDewd... ;)

    Maybe they didn't want you to know that it wasn't a real toilet.

    I'd assume that they'd show up with less frequency, which I think is measured in PPM (parts per million). I think that you have to have a certain PPM of whatever chemicals for the test to turn out "positive". Therefore, if it was diluted, the PPM would be much lower.

    [face_shocked] Eeew... You mean the person-before-me's pee was still in there when it was my turn? 8-}

    Edit: That would make sense, YodaJeff... but how much water would you have to add? The cup was only so big...

    Strange as this may sound, some people try to cheat the system by bringing in vials of other people's urine. When they're in the bathroom, they empty the vial into the cup.

    The turning on the faucet bit comes from the fact some of the cheaters will turn on the water to hide the fact they aren't actually doing the business...and also, for another reason...that has something to do with spillage. That's where not washing your hands comes into the picture.

    Perfect dinner conversation, huh? 8-}

    I've heard of people doing that too... but how does that explain the fact that you can't flush?

    Edit: The water in the toilet is blue so they can't tell if you've done your 'business'. So, if you wanted to cheat just throw in some toilet paper and your done.

    Perfect dinner conversation, huh?

    Yeah, really. 8-}

    If you flush, the blue water is replaced by clear water, which could be used to dilute it.

    If you ended up with a blue or green urine sample, they'd be able to tell that you tried to dilute it with toilet water.

    I read about someone putting a small amount of Clorox in the toilet once when they were having a drug test...maybe that and the water dilution thing are the reason for them not letting you flush.

    I don't really want to know anyone who carries vials of urine and Clorox around to cheat a drug test...or even just to carry them around. [face_laugh]

    Alright, the not being able to flush the toilet makes sense... Thanks YodaJeff. ;)

    Though, if you're desperate enough you could probably still cheat... even by simply slipping a vial with water in your pocket.

    I don't really want to know anyone who carries vials of urine and Clorox around to cheat a drug test...or even just to carry them around.

    [face_laugh] You and me both. ;)

    What if you overflow the cup?

    Do you pee in the sink? Or in the trashcan? Or on the floor?

    I have random drug testing at work an I keep overflowing the cup too so I just end up peeing on the floor for them making me get up at 6 a.m. to take this $#@! test.

    Just take a sip from the cup before you hand it to 'em with a smile, and they'll ask you no further questions.

    Trust me.

    They'll just think you're whacked out of your mind of drugs and flunk you anyway.

    Why is no one asking the bigger question here? Why does Jeff know so much about urine and urine tests?

    Amazing.

    I don't know if I follow Jeff's explanation. I'd think the simpler explanation would be that the dye in the toilet is also a reactive for drugs so that if you filled the cup with false urine, you'd still have to pee in the toilet to make it sound convincing and they'd nab you there...

    I don't think the blue dye could be a reactive for drugs. It usually takes a couple days to get the results back, since they usually have to be sent out to a lab somewhere, and I don't think it's as easy as mixing the blue reactive with your urine.

    "Why is no one asking the bigger question here? Why does Jeff know so much about urine and urine tests?"

    I've personally had a couple urine tests and a hair-test (all part of various job-screening processes, not because of suspected drug use, and I passed all of them), so I've had to "pee in a cup" before. I know that urine often is yellow, and that yellow+blue=green, so that could be why there is blue water. I don't know the real answers, I'm just trying to think of explanations that make sense as I go along.
