We are here to celebrate the addition of Findswoman and devilinthedetails to our Fanfic modding team (more information here) with the time-honored tradition of a Mod!Challenge! We welcome you to grab your pens, summon your muses, and join us in . . .

The Mods' Something Borrowed, Something New Challenge!

What is the challenge, exactly?

The challenge, should you accept, is simple. Pick one of the slots in the list below, and you will be assigned a prompt to inspire a story. We have three tiers of difficulty to choose from. With the first tier, you will be assigned three prompts; with the second tier, five prompts; and with the third tier, eight prompts.


What kind of prompts are we talking?

That's the Mod element of this Mod!Challenge. The prompts will all be elements taken from previous stories that the mods have written in order to inspire new stories! From each tier, you can expect:

• Three Prompt Tier: a trope; a line of dialogue; and three words
• Five Prompt Tier: a trope; a line of dialogue; three words; a picture; and a random story element
• Eight Prompt Tier: a trope; a line of dialogue; three words; a picture; a random story element; a setting element; an old mod element; and a new mod element

How long will the challenge last?

The challenge starts today, and you will have until midnight, November 27th to post your responses.


Okay, I'm in! What else should I know?

1. When you post your story, please indicate that it is a Mod!Challenge response somewhere in your title bar. Also, we welcome you to share a link here so that we can add your story to the Index.

2. Include your challenge elements in the notes for your story, so that we can ooh and aah over your creative brilliance!

3. That said, you do not have to include every prompt in your story. Just keep in mind that how many of the elements you use and how you manage to use them will affect our judging. (More information on that below.)

4. This challenge has no word restrictions; you may be as succinct or verbose as you like. However, keep in mind that only what you post as of November 27th will count towards the judging if you decide to write an epic.

5. The prompts are all fandom friendly, so we welcome NSW as well as SW stories.

6. For now, we ask that you only sign up for one slot. After you post your first entry, you may pick subsequent slots, with the restriction that you write only one story per tier. More slots may be added on request, though it might take us a few days to put new prompts together.

What's this about judging?

At the end of the challenge, the mods will choose their favorite story in each tier. We will base our judging on the number of prompts you were able to incorporate in your response, and your creativity in utilizing those prompts.

Also, there will be a bonus prize at the end of the challenge. We will post the master list of prompts, and you will have the opportunity to guess which prompt came from each mod. Whoever has the most correct guesses will be our bonus winner! (We thought that this would be a fun way to get to know both your new and old mods a little better. )


This sounds awesome, but you mentioned prizes?

Yes, there are going to be prizes for the winners of this challenge! The winner in each tier will receive: 72 hours of colors for Tier 1; 5 days of colors for Tier 2; and 1 week of colors for Tier 3. Our bonus challenge winner will receive 48 hours of colors.


Wait, what about the mods? How can they participate?

This is where we welcome you to give as good as you get! We want to join in on the fun and learn something about you in return! If you're interested in challenging us, please help your fellow users put together a mega-prompt for each of us using Tier 2's format (a trope; a line of dialogue; three words; a picture; and a random story element).

We want as many of you to participate in this as possible, so please provide only ONE or TWO elements to start. This is going to be done on a first come, first serve basis to fill in the sign-up sheet below. However, we will open this up so that you many contribute more elements if we don't get enough submissions our first time around. We will then divvy up your submissions and write our own responses to your challenge!

Remember, these should be elements FROM YOUR OWN STORIES. Please include the story your element is from when you post your suggestions in this thread.

As a last note, for those who may be interested, we recommend using Pixabay for finding royalty free stock photos.

Combining elements from four different writing styles made for some zany prompts, we can't lie. The chaos is particularly intense on Tier 3, for a certainty.
