Title: Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds
Author: lazykbys
Fandom: Space Odyssey
Timeframe: 2010 & 2061
Characters: er . . . no-one?
Genre: filk, a.k.a. song parody (Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds by The Beatles)
Summary: Jupiter becomes Lucifer; Mount Zeus sinks.
Notes: The timeline of the song jumps all over the place. Be warned.
Disclaimer: The Space Odyssey series was created by Arthur C. Clarke. Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds was created by The Beatles. The original song is mentioned in 2061: Odyssey Three, which is where I got the idea for this.

Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds

Picture yourself on a Jovian worldlet
With Jupiter filling the bulk of the sky
Suddenly something begins to eclipse it
A shadow that's growing in size

Monoliths multiply quick as they can
Swallowing matter like mad
Look to the skies for a blinding surprise
Something's gone . . .

Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
Ah . . . ah . . .

Follow the paths of the planet's implosion
As crystalized carbon shards pepper the sky
One of them chances to land on Europa
A diamond astounding in size

Gravity pulls down on Mt. Zeus's mass
Trying to take it away
Hear the last cries of the mountain's demise
Yes, it's gone . . .

Picture yourself on the isles of Europa
With Lucifer shining above in the sky
Fractures split rainbows that pass through the diamond
Creating kaleidoscope skies

(REFRAIN repeat and fade)

That's very awesome, lazy . . . the visuals are at least as good as in the original song, and you made the rhyme and meter sound effortless.

Now go through the JCC Idol thread and see if you can bribe someone to sing and record it for you. :p
