Spiderman model WIP

Anybody know where I can find a good spiderman model? I found some Poser models that can be saved as a 3ds, but I don't have poser!

Depends on what you mean by "out there".. I know a guy on another forum that built Doc Ock's tentacles in LW, but they were for a commercial project, and won't be released.

 

I understand I did find one model but it's a little small and it's missing the webbing.

I am currently trying to extract the one from my Spiderman 2 PC game but the format extractor is hard to find (which is UKX)

That's a nice mesh Fireresq, but... 40$ I could add the wires, with bump maps, if you buy it

I started one model last week after seeing spiderman 2. Actually I've just done a rough body so far.

 

Now that you got me thinking about it, I might end up making the tentacles myself.. But it might be a while before I can get any real work done.. the relevant Cinefex issue doesn't come out until October, and I'd probably need that just to point me in the right direction for animating them.. then I could figure out how they'd need to be modeled for that sort of animation (as this is one of those cases where the modeling and animating are intertwined, how one is done will affect the other). The Cinefex will probably also have more references than I've got so far.

 

I'll take you up on that Dr. Jones...I just bought it So can you add the raised web design?

Ok I guess Dr. Jones is sleeping.

Anyways I emailed him the spiderman model and now I have a new dilemma!

I didn't realize that the model is 3dmax 6 version. And I have 3dmax 5. The model did not come with any OBJ or 3DS version.

Is there any way to convert it to a max 5? Does anyone have max 6 and would like to have a copy of the spiderman for helping me convert it to max 5?

Download and install the 3dsmax 30 day demo... export it out as .fbx (using the plugin at www.kaydara.com)... then you can import it into Max or any other app that has a .fbx plugin (and nearly all the big ones do, or will).

ok so when I export it as this ".fbx" I just import it back to max as that .fbx file?

Why not export it as a 3ds?

Because .3ds max is a nasty old format that triangulates your mesh and often is a nightmare... I would recommend .obj, but Max has the weakest .obj support of any format (IMHO)...

FBX will carry the mesh (usually) perfectly and generally without any hiccups.

a Spiderman model seems to be in high demand. Do you think someone should just make definitive one for Max users?

 

Dr. Jones is working on it for me...but as soon as it's done I will make sure all can use it!
But I'll make sure with Dr. Jones first of course!

As long as it's textured im happy. If it's rigged with a biped I will be forced to hug you .

Personally, I don't think we should be asking Doc Jones to do any more to the model than he's already doing. And do you have any idea how hard it is to animate a character? Do you really think it's our place to "request" that he spend all that extra time animating a model just so other people can use that animation instead of just making their own?

Woah! Aaron is still a Newbie, I'm sure he never knew how busy Dr.Jones is. If Dr. Jones had something to share he would defiently post it!

Again the progress is slow, but it doesn't matter to me, as long as it gets done I don't care!

Yea it's true... unfortunately this type of work is still difficult and god awfully slow to do. I think that's why some people get irritated with all the REQUESTS. It'd be like... me coming over to your house and knocking on your door saying... "You know me right, zoo from the forums. Say would you mind spending the next 20 hours or so mowing my grass." I think 99% of the time you shouldn't bother people unless they are already doing something you want to use or some other work that's in the same genre. I myself don't approach people unless these two criteria are satisfied. The best I can do is find people who are interested in what we're doing and share that stuff with everybody thru the site. There's too many people too quick to ask somebody to do something for them when they have no idea how difficult and time consuming it is... even for a pro like Dr.Jones.

I think that's where alot of the fruatration and impatience is coming from with all these REQUESTS.

 

Believe me I have been around this stuff long enough to know the pains of creating a full person. I hold those who do it in the highest respect so please don't get me wrong.

 

This thread kinda starting turning into a WIP thread so I'll leave it. But in the future if the forum keeps getting flooded with "where can I find a" , "is there this and that available" , etc. I'll have to make a sticky thread for that too.

Only what is known to be out there is available on our site, SFM, LWG, etc. Otherwise search GOOGLE. Other than that there's no reason to ask. I could search for hours and find all sorts of things that people are looking for. It's everywhere. But most of it is low-rez stuff, Poser stuff, etc. If it's good we'll have it or let us know about it. Otherwise... please stop asking "can somebody make this", "does this exist out there somewhere" , etc. Put it in the REQUEST thread. I'm not gonna make a sticky just for this stuff.
