Challenge Story [Star Trek] "Beauty of the Game" for the OTP Date Challenge (one-shot)

"The Beauty of the Game"

Characters: Nyota/Spock

Disclaimer: Borrowing with love, happily using the OTP Challenge prompt of sporting event. The challenge revolves around a date.

Nyota was fascinated by the game of chess; she was intimidated by it also, to be honest. She thought that it took a level of prowess and concentration seldom to be seen or achieved.

"Too much of an uphill struggle," she told her sister at one point. "Not like language and music, at least for me."

When Spock taught her the finer points of the game, she found yet another cause to admire him and another reason to spend time together, neither of which she could bring herself to complain about.

Basketball... now that was an unapologetic passion of hers, and she introduced him to its wonderful fast pace and the smooth synchrony of a team in fluid motion.

"The assists, the 3-pointers, and the sweet nothing-but-net, and the literally last second layup!" She enthused.

He accompanied her to the sporting arena where they watched the Starfleet Academy team take on the team from the Diplomatic Corps. Sherralyn was point guard, so she set many of the plays in motion.

Nyota applauded and cheered and encouraged at every possession.

"Dunk it, Sherra!"

After the buzzer-beater victory of 98-97, she asked Spock about his impression of the game.

"The gameplay does possess a certain symmetry," he admitted.

"It's beautiful to watch!" Nyota remarked.

Spock did not disagree, but to him, the true beauty lay in observing her joyful exuberance.

Thus, when she insisted they come again for the rematch, he did not decline.

Aww, this was such a sweet scene. I'm glad he did not decline the rematch and I imagine a Vulcan commentary on basketball would be both endearing and hilarious.

So sweet! I love how they are learning about each other's interests here. Wonderful work!

 

What a meltilicious review! Their relationship to one another is lovely and symmetrical And it's always a great couple thing when they introduce each other to new things to enjoy that they might not have ventured to learn about otherwise. Basking in the other's pleasure is definitely an upside.

 

Spock and Nyota, my favorite ST ship. Sweet story, I do like seeing them be social together.

 

They really are the tops ... I cannot imagine them NOT together.
