IC: Kayn "I Have 12% of a Plan" Balzroth [face_devil]
Brainstorm, or maybe just an Ideasquall

Kayn muted his implants and listened intently to Wallings' briefing. If she thought that sharing suspicions of a mole would get her off his list of suspects, she was utterly wrong. That's just the kind of thing a mole would do to throw off suspicion. As for her claim to trust the Sheep, he smiled in polite appreciation while internally laughing hysterically.

Finally she got to the point of the mission. It was a relief that she wasn't sending them off on another blatant war crimes operation like the wedding on Naboo. Kayn wasn't about to get suckered into one of those again.

Then Flagg was front and center, filling them in on the available 'intel' such as it was, and it was about as weak as any he'd ever heard. On the other horn, every time they'd had more detailed info for an op, it had been wrong, so at least they wouldn't be going in under a cloud of false assumptions.

"So, with just that how do we go about infiltrating the base?"
    Flagg asked.

Kayn stood up and spoke clearly to the whole squadron. "Sir, I suggest Valkyria plays the role of an innocent tramp freighter with a serious malfunction. We were thrown off course and fell out of hyperspace right on top of the moon and are falling out of the sky, maybe rig a minor plasma leak or something to make it look real. Broadcast distress signals and declare an in-flight emergency. We're having difficulty maintaining control, and are forced to land, maybe even put down right on top of the bunker if we can get through the trees. Transmit that we have urgent medical emergencies so they'll feel obliged to open up their doors to send us help. We play the part of helpless accident victims as long as we can until the shooting starts. After that, it's your basic smash-and-grab. That's as far as I've thought so far. I expect Skipper will have some thoughts about how feasible all that would be, or refinements to add?"

    Maxime "Max" Pallas
    Briefing room...very hush-hush

Max raised an eyebrow as Wallings activated the jamming device. This was a first for a briefing. Something they should have been doing all along. She tried to maintain a neutral face as Wallings outlined the issue. She'd been cautioning the squadron about a mole for a month, but was told that she was just being paranoid. It was only recently that some of the others were beginning to come around. It was nice of someone higher up to confirm all this, though, even if it was too late. She listened carefully to Walling's briefing, waiting patiently to be able to ask an important and relevant question. But before she could say anything, the woman disappeared. The Corellian sighed. Digger's droid mission might still be on, since she hadn't been able to find out if there had been an external hardware scan of the Intrepid's hull.

She listened to Flagg outline some issues, then winced at Kayn's idea.

"Sir, this calls for a scalpel, not a sledgehammer," she said. "This is a case where covert means exactly what it says, and frankly, sir, people who don't have covert ops experience will be a hindrance." She looked at Lou briefly, then looked apologetically at Kayn. "I'd have to argue that the 'freighter in distress' is a gambit which has been done a hundred times before, and I don't think they'll fall for it. And I don't know how much time we have..." She glanced around.

"It will be simpler to infiltrate a small Imp facility nearby or tap a comms relay and implant a fake requisition form, transmitting to the base. We can go in as technicians, contractors, and even Stormtroopers, right through the front door. Part of a standard systems upgrade. A second team could land nearby, covertly, in case we need a quick getaway. I know you like to say time is of the essence, but in this particular case, taking time beforehand is essential."

And if they had a little more lead time, they might be able to find the personnel files of those ISB agents. The name "Fury" seemed to be sending up a warning at the back of her mind, but she couldn't figure out why. She was sure she'd never met him, or gone up against him, but her brain seemed to think she'd heard OF him.

~OOC~ Quick joint post with @The Real Kyp Durron. Thank you for that :)

~IC~ Captain Cassell ‘Skipper’ Wystari + Major MacKenzie ‘Flanker’ Hollymander.
    Location:
Squadron Ready Room - Under the ‘Cone Of Silence’

“For Kayn’s idea... It be a simple rewiring of one of the arrays to feedback on itself to mimic a power issue and flood the heat exhaust vent with a smoke generator.” Cassell shrugged. “If this was standard Imperials then sure, we go lame and let them come to our rescue...” Cassell let that linger as he gestured as though weighing the options. “However, Max is right. This is the ISB... and we aren’t talking about an upset stomach here. If rumours are true then they are smarter, more ruthless and we be likely to be shot down as soon as we make our presence known.”

MacKenzie stood near to Cassell at the back of the room. It was a good vantage point as he could see the entire room and their reactions to everything. He could also see Amber and it seemed she was somewhat worse for wear this morning. He listened to the plan then Kayn’s idea quickly followed by Cassells obvious statement. “He’s right.” He stated simply. “They won’t ask questions nor will they give shooting the Valkyria out of the sky a second thought.”

“Although... for the Valkyria’s entry, maybe we should be shot down?” Cassell cupped his chin and looked to Taab. “Maybe we could rig a container up...” he hinted at what they were discussing earlier. “...call out in distress. Or not. Drop out of the sky and release the container while we peel off as our proxy makes an impact? They surely send someone to inspect the site and maybe show us a way in.”

"Out of range of course?" MacKenzie countered. "We don't want them getting one good shot in and ending the mission in a big bang." He shot Cassell a questioning look.

“If we do go the distress route, they scan us and pick up on the malfunction. They might not have to shoot us down as we drop out of the sky.”

"That's a pretty big 'might not' you're asking. The ISB are cold and ruthless. They'd use a disabled freighter as shooting practice before they'd let it go." He explained. "I would suggest a distraction before the Valkyria jumps in. Give them something to shoot at."

“I prefer something a bit more simple and subtle than that...“ Cassell gave a dismissive wave. “...especially given the properties of the gas giant and rings of ice and rocks about it. Something we can play with. No doubt the moon has regular meteorite showers. I’ll see what everyone else thinks before we complicate it further.”

MacKenzie gave a slow nod when he really wanted to roll his eyes. He knew the ISB weren’t about giving second chances to anyone. He wanted to hear what everyone else said.

    IC: Traer Lin
    The morning after

It was a groan that woke him, but he realised it was his own. A hammering upon his brow brought him to consciousness, and his body promptly reported that it was not happy. It had, as ever, woken him early because early is how the SonTay prison camp worked and thankfully the ships internal chrono wasn’t far off the time he was used to.

It did however take him a few moments to work out what was happening, and that, yes, the alcohol served by the ships bar had been at a real potency. The stuff brewed by the prisoners at the camp had been some awful weak cocktail to take the edge off the day.

This however was definitely the good stuff.

What kind of Rebellion were these kids running? He would never have had alcohol on an active warship during the Clone Wars!

His body reminded him to pay attention.

Slowly, Traer worked his way through it.

He was on his back, one leg half out the bed, covers… somewhere. He shifted his other leg, and felt it draped over… someone.

    Someone’s leg.

    Ah.

In that typical flashback to the night before, it all came flooding back to him. Stumbling back to the room, the sudden kissing, the pulling at their clothes, skin upon skin upon skin, the twists and turns and… entanglement.

He slowly turned his head, though he knew who he’d see. Kio, laying on his chest, face slack with contented sleep, kind of beatific. Traer hesitantly brushed an errant coil of hair so he could better see the younger man’s face, and then realised he needed to go.

He’d been a free man for all of thirty seconds and here he was bedding a Rebel. Traer Lin was too jaded for the morning after chat. It had been fun, and a much needed release, but he knew he could have just as likely left with Zara or Kio, actually. Not that Zara seemed inclined towards him…

A messy memory of their chat about her mother…

He wasn’t going to think about a woman while naked in bed.

Resolved, he carefully lifted his leg off of Kio and with exceeding care rolled off the bed. A slow but swift gathering of his clothes - and a decision to abandon one or two non-essentials and he slipped on what he could find, and slid out of the room.

He did take one last look at Kio, stay lain out on the bed, blissfully unaware that Traer was leaving, and he clicked the door shut behind him. He didn’t check himself before he left - Traer knew he’d only see reflected a mess, after all.

Which is why as he snuck back to his quarters he wouldn’t recognise he had his undershirt on back-to-front, and he was missing a sock.

    Traer Lin cursed himself.

He was way too old for a morning walk of shame. He should have made it back to his room without being seen - a hushed call to OOM provided him with directions - and he was in the shower and dressing for the briefing soon enough.

It was then he realised he was smiling; humming, even.

Had the Traer Lin of SonTay simply been ruined by the prison camp?

It was a thought to nurture. It wasn’t as if he had a friend to talk it out with. Definitely not Feral.

He slid into the briefing a little late and resisted the urge to look for Kio - or Zara.

    Morning After

Lou's eyes shot open as her datapad vibrated. A quick scan let her know that a squadron briefing was happening inside the hour. She grunted and gently eased out of bed as she quickly got changed into her pilot's uniform. She looked back at Airen who was sleeping quite soundly after a night of unbridled fun and smiled. She knew she'd chosen well. This time things would be different. This time everything would be different.

Lou leaned over and kissed Airen on the forehead. He didn't stir. He was out cold. She quickly left her quarters and made her way to the briefing room. As she traversed the corridors of the Intrepid she couldn't help but ask herself if she felt any different now that she was a married woman, again. Besides all the paperwork that officially processed and recognized the wedding, marriage certificate etc, she could honestly admit she felt different. Lighter, happier, older, and wiser.

Lou slipped into the briefing room and took a seat next to Joy and Ianna. Her two good friends. They'd been through so much together in such a short amount of time. So very much. Now it was her goal to keep Charlie Flight as intact as possible. That meant not getting shot down again and winding up in a miserable place like SonTay. The flight needed her leadership and expertise. Now, more than ever.

Wallings began the briefing activating a special sound device to crush any electronic bugs. Lou listened intently as the mission was explained in great detail. She ignored Wallings thoughts on the spy in the fleet. It wasn't that she didn't care but espionage and Louise Vehn did not go hand in hand. She was a pilot. Not an operative. Still she was determined to make up for her errors on Naboo. Errors that Maxime Pallas had so strongly shared. Lou shot a glance over to Max who sent daggers her way after insinuating, again, that she didn't belong in the field on this kind of operation.

Yeah no love lost there Lou thought as the briefing chugged right along.

Wallings wrapped up the briefing and discussion erupted between the more senior members of the squadron. Kayn fired off with an idea. At least his made sense. Max of course had an idea. Again she seemed to miss the point this was a squadron not a partisan cell operating behind enemy lines. Skipper chimed in with thoughts of his own as did Major Hollymander. She remained quiet letting those with more experience in the field have their day in the spotlight. She was content with her own life, for once and felt like now she could dial into the squadron briefings in a whole new way.

"Perhaps those of us with less experience with this kind of operation should carry out some sort of distraction. Draw the Imperials attention away from the infiltration team," Lou suggested and gave Max a wink.

    Happy?

    Impromptu Meeting

Nursing a bit of a sore head Akiva had shown up to the meeting with a fizzy drink. Honestly she should not of celebrated the poisoning of the CAG as much as she had, no matter that it was covered by everyone else celebrating the wedding. Not that she didn't care Lou, she was happy for her, but she, well she also didn't real know the woman that well.

Taking in the news about the mission and the mole was a bit of an 'oh really?' moment. Although her expression was much more pained by the anti-eaves dropping devices high pitches. As for the looks after the news that the other wings mission was delayed due to the CAG being sick, well. She did her best to wear a face that mothers the galaxy over would be compelled to ask the question 'You practice that in your sleep? That innocent look.'

The others started edging in on a plan, but honestly she just had to shake her head at the whole thing. "We are pilots, not shock troopers. We don't storm castles, we go in as entertainment. This place though, unless you really are fabulous I don't think a crashed ship is good unless it's bait for them to shoot at. Not to mention trying to out forge the anti-forgery department of the Empire just feels like a bad idea. So unless someone has a good idea, perhaps I should stay back and handle last mail and tending to the pets?" she tried to offer helpfully.

OOC: Not an update, just Taab's two credits worth here.

    IC: Beskaryc Taab
The briefing, Black Sheep ready room, rebel carrier Intrepid

Immediately upon Commander Wallings' departure other member of the squadron chimed in with their own ideas for the mission. This was something outside the experience of their normal planning and operations officer, though his initial suggestion wasn't totally laughable. It was just it had been done time and time again, and the Imperials would be ready for it. Of course, the fact that it kept getting tried in some way shape or form lent credence to the idea that it could sometime be successful. Max of course had her own ideas, one's that Flagg seemed to take under consideration for a moment before adding. "We don't have time for an infiltration of another site prior to this, we have only twelve hours, maybe less, before the strike is launched, and we have to account for travel time between any other location and Woodpecker." Taab nodded at that. They were on a tight schedule here. Akiva too seemed to have her reservations about that plan and even Taab chuckled at her remark on out forging the "anti-forgery department." Hollymander and Wystari though seemed to refine Kayn's idea into something much more palatable, at least to Taab though once again Akiva didn't seem too thrilled with it, though the Mandalorian found himself nodding along with their ideas. Taking a glance around the room he felt it was the time to speak up now.

"I've done this sort of thing before," he started, not going into his own history as a mercenary during the Clone Wars. He was an aged veteran of that conflict, having worked at various times for either side. "Of course that was with hardened soldiers, not pilots." He shrugged. "Our biggest concern is the lack of intel we have on site, we have no idea the defenses, layout or construction of the base. So without that we are going to have to do what we do best, improvise." He looked to Wystari. "I like your plan." He nodded in acknowledgement to Skipper and the squadron's intel officer. "Looking at this, the system is a sensor nightmare, they won't detect us until we're rather close in...once they do, we release the container full of junk on a crash course with the moon and follow it in until just prior to impact. Maybe even add in few explosives and make it look like a crash, then we take the Valkyria and fly her low level, below their sensor nets, and land on the opposite side of the complex from the container crash site. That should give us some time to deploy and observe while they root around in the container's wreckage." He looked to Flagg now. "We wait and watch for a short time, not too long because first we don't have much time and second they will lose interest in the crashed ship pretty quickly..."

Taab's head cocked to one side suddenly. "We have any dead bodies we can put in the container? Might hold their attention longer there if there are sentient remains...anyway," he went back to his original train of thought. "After observation we improvise our way in and then split into several teams, first a guard team for the ship. We should be landed in as dense an area as you can set us down in Skipper," Given the freighter captain's earlier heroics that shouldn't be too difficult. "Second, an infiltration group to actually penetrate the facility, quietly, and retrieve the intel we need." He didn't say it aloud, as it would be up to Flagg to make those decisions, but Vermillion and Hollymander would most certainly be a part of that team. "Thirdly, a command and observation group, they stick outside the bunker preferably hidden in the woods nearby but close to enough to keep an eye on things. They watch for Imperial reinforcements and anything unexpected and issue orders from there" Flagg of course would be a part of that group.

"Last, we need a quick reaction force, that should be our soldiers such as myself, Ashe and Clark..." he trailed off sure he was forgetting someone. "They will be in position between the ship and the observation group, ready to either help defend the Valkyria if she's found, or go off and assist either the command group or the infiltration team if they get into trouble." He gave Flagg one last look but the commander didn't seem too impressed, though at least he didn't dismiss it out of hand. "It's a start," he said finally, before looking to the others to see what they thought.

IC: Jocelyn "Joy" Sunwalker and Finnefrael “Feral” Ordwgal
    Onboard the Intrepid

Jocelyn woke up. She was a bit disoriented, not sure whether last night happened at all. Was it all a dream? Then sensed a physical presence. She was not alone in bed and it was not Carols who sometimes liked to curl on her chest. Joy smiled "Hey..." she whispered softly. "I think we have to wake up..."

Feral’s eyes opened in moments, at the sound of Joy’s voice. As they did, he noticed immediately he wasn’t in his quarters. And then he heard her statement, remembering how the night ended, and him keeping his promise. Turning his head, he smiled ”Already?”

And that was when the bleating of his pad registered. Picking it up, one hand reaching to hold her hand as he did, he read the message. ”Oh yeah, we need to be up, briefing in 15 minutes.”

"I guess it was too much to ask for a day off..." Jocelyn groaned and sat on the edge of the bed. "Well, let's get moving." she massaged her neck and almost sprung to her feet. "I will be ready in a minute." that Imperial training surely came in handy.

Feral chuckled, he had to fight down the reaction to watching Joy bounce out of bed, they just didn't have time. He stood, glad that he had made sure to have dropped by his room and grabbed one of his flightsuits and boots before they returned to her room. He stood, stretching. There was no care that he was barely clothed, she'd seen it all, as he did so.

He slipped by her, kissing her neck softly before reaching for his gear on a hanger by her wardrobe. He dressed almost as quickly as he was sure she would, zipping up the flight boots before telling her "I'm ready when you are…”

Jocelyn smiled when he kissed her "That's cheating!" she said in a mock protest "You are distracting me!" Joy smirked as she was getting ready "Good thing I don't need makeup for the missions." she chuckled softly "Or I would have needed an hour." She washed her face and brushed her teeth. The uniform buttoned and straightened, the boots tied, her hair tied in a bun, she gave herself another look in the small mirror "I am done too. Let's go." and just as she said that she switched into her professional mode.

Feral nodded, he noticed the change in demeanor. Opening the door, he let her through first and then followed behind, closing and ensuring it was secured before turning to her. ”I’m sure you know the way better, so I will follow you.”

Jocelyn gave a small smile and nodded. It felt a bit strange walking together as a couple, not that her current demeanor would give that impression. "The Intrepid used to be an Imperial ship." she looked at him while walking "I served on a Quasar like that in the past. It was for a short while, but I have the layout memorized."

She mostly ignored the other crew members who were passing by. Joy had no friends outside her small circle. Even with them she liked to keep some distance.

Until SonTay, until her parents, until Feral...

"We are almost there." she sighed and straightened her jacket "I wonder what the mission will be."

Feral listened to Joy explain the ship and why it was easily familiar to her. That the former Imperial design was one that was upsized or downsized based on the type of ship made sense and made things much easier for crews.

”I hadn’t heard that the new fighters had arrived yet so I’m willing to bet that this is some other type of mission.” he replied, as he thought it through. ”In which case, I’m glad I was able to knock the rust off with the Marines some. I doubt you’d be happy if you find me shot full of holes.” Yes, it was dark humor, but at the same time he didn’t want to find her in that condition either.

"Or get wounded..." she gave him a sidelong glance and a small smirk crept on her lips "I don't want to stay in the infirmary and keep the nurses off you." she grunted in amusement "I don't think I have my new Y-wing either." Jocelyn sighed "And I am too afraid to face my mechanic. He is a burly and easily irritable Togorian."

A light chuckle crossed Feral's face, "I can see you standing over my bed in the medbay, a pair of drawn daggers and eyes shooting daggers at the nurses. Of course...I'd be the same." Glancing at her, "I'll come with when you face him. I still need a mechanic for whenever I get a fighter too."

"Yeah, given how easily you get distracted." she scoffed and smirked teasingly. "I am not sure it will make any difference if you were with me. He can wipe the floor with both of us." Joy shook her head "But let's head in. We are almost late and I don't want to ruin my spotless record."

Feral chuckled lightly once more, "After you, Sergeant." His words would be said to be well within propriety but the tone he used was more possessive and intimate. He'd made sure none were within earshot when he said it, and opened the door to the briefing room before the moment drew out too far, gesturing for her to proceed.

Joy's gaze lingered a few seconds longer then she nodded "Let's go then. The room is over here on the left..." she gestured towards the intersection.

It did not take them to reach the place. They were not the first in. Joy looked around to see if Amber was there. She had taken a mental note to clarify certain things after the briefing. Joy nodded to Ianna and Lou. "I think I should sit with the other Wishbone pilots." she whispered to Feral.

Feral saw where Joy was looking. It made sense that they would sit with their flights. He glanced around a bit more and saw where Cassell was seated. ”That makes sense.” he whispered back. ”I’ll join my flight. After though, when possible, I’ll find you or vice versa, deal? I’m sure we will both have other things that need doing first though.”

He nodded, although there was a light in his eyes when he did, ”See you then. Don’t go getting yourself in trouble before then.” he whispered with a light tease, before he turned and headed toward where he’d seen Cassell.

"Speak for yourself." she gave a barely perceptible smile, but the amusement could be heard in her voice, then with a sigh turned towards Ianna and Lou.

    Briefing Room

Feral smiled softly as Joy wandered off to join her flight. He weaved his way through the room to find a spot near Cassell. He noticed Holly there too, which made sense but tried to stay out of the way of the man. They still hadn’t had a chance to discuss things, like why the man was not pleased with the fact he’d been near Amber. Add to that the fact he was a spook and Feral was sure that the man had either influenced or at least watched every moment of his ‘debriefing’ he was sure they had things to discuss.

But that was for later. Currently the briefing was about to begin. He paid attention throughout, making notes on his pad about it all, studying the system and what might be feasible as everything was laid out. And then members of the unit began to speak up, offering a variety of plans. Some had merit, some were more out of the box and most likely to fail, and some were just too frequently used.

And then he shook his head wryly, as Taab suggested almost exactly what he was thinking, himself. He stood for a moment, clearing his throat, ”I know I’m brand new to the Sheep. But,” he glanced at Cassell, ”You could ask the commander of my flight if I’m a greenhorn or not.” he chuckled lightly. ”I would have agreed with Holly and Cassell’s plan to a degree, with a couple addendums but Taab basically, already, suggested all I was going to suggest that would give the plan a better chance of survival.”

He checked his notes, ”Using the meteor storms that barrage the planet as a cover, flying within one, would increase the odds of the infiltrators survival. But a couple questions, does anyone here know how to rig up an EMP? Or be able to create Ion charges? There has been the suggestion of dropping something out of the Valkyria and if an EMP can be rigged up, having that fall out and go off in an airburst over the base or near enough, would make the base go black, if they do not have shielding. It would, at least, render their antenna’s useless for a time. The ion charges would be very good at disrupting the stormtroopers, especially their internal armor systems.”

He smiled, ”I would recommend that those who have ground combat experience or training be those at the vanguard. We’re pilots yes, but some of us have that advantage, and it would make sure that all of us can get back out.” he nodded at the command team on the podium. ”Thanks for letting me put in my two cents.” before he sat back down.

    Briefing - The Intrepid

Amber turned and listened to Finnfrael, he'd caught her attention but after her stupidity at the wedding she doubted he ever wanted to speak to her again. Looking in the direction she caught Major Hollymander leaning against the wall beside Cassell, she doubted he'd ever look at her even as a friend ever again after last night. She'd made a complete fool of herself and then having Zephyr help her when she finally crashed and threw up, that was the ultimate shame. Burning bridges as she went, that was all Amber could think.

She turned back round to look down at her hands, once again feeling like an utter failure as a person. She had nothing to add to this plan, sure she could use a blaster well enough, but as for being a ground pounder, that was not on her resume. She knew she could follow orders, and even embellish them but not plan them. She glanced at Ethan who sat nearby, but he was listening carefully, she guessed had ideas, or at least experience. Her best option was to remain silent at this point, so she did.

    Briefing Room

Max leaned back in the chair, crossed her arms, and sighed. A simple task which would be difficult to carry out, but not impossible. Steal info, something she'd certainly done before. A shuttle with a small team of Imperial officers doing a surprise security audit would be unexpected, but not unheard of. Security audits happened regularly, and weren't announced. They wouldn't raise any red flags. But everything else --meteors, attacks, disabled freighters-- these were events that were out of the ordinary, things that would raise red flags and put the base on higher alert. Which would make it harder for the other squadrons.

But stars forbid anyone would listen to her. Even when she was right. She looked to Hollymander and the new guy, what'shisname --Vermin, or something?--supposedly acting as intel, hoping they'd say SOMETHING.

IC: Jocelyn "Joy" Sunwalker, Tala “Merc” Ashe
    Location: on-board the Intrepid

Jocelyn was listening to the mission, she hated all that cloak-and-dagger stuff going on. But that was to be expected from Wellings. She would have to find some time to talk with her about the spy. It seems during the time of Joy’s imprisonment the issue had been resolved.

Hopefully Max would drop the accusations towards Lou. She remembered there had been some tension and animosity before THE mission.

Either way she was there for her friend if she needed her. A small smile formed in her mind. At least now Lou would have a Knight in Shining Armor to defend her honor.

That made her take a peek at Feral.

She reverted back to the briefing. So an infiltration mission. Jocelyn tried not to grimace. She did not expect to be close and personal with Imperials so soon. But blasting them would have a therapeutic effect…

Joy scoffed silently, even ISB posts could be a tough nut to crack. Especially when there was a spy on board. Even if they did not know the details they could still cause a lot of trouble.

So the “idea heckling” had begun. Jocelyn decided to listen to the suggestions first then she could offer her own. If needed…

    ****************

Tala entered the briefing room, her impressive figure towering over most of the other pilots. She nodded to whoever looked at her. Noting a Devaronian with what appeared to be some cyber mods she grinned “Hey, I see I have a Cyber Buddy!” her voice boomed “We should compare specs afterwards.” she smirked.

Then saw the young pilot with whom she had to hug-wrestle the day before. Tala waved to her, but the briefing was about to start so best not to antagonise her commanders on her first mission.

Listening to the imposing lady known as Wellings, Tala was all professional. Even though she had an easygoing attitude she knew how to act appropriately.

Oh goody! An infiltration mission! That made Tala giddy. Shooting some Imps, stealing their data then leaving. Easy-peasy lemon squeezy!

When the discussion started she listened, some good ideas were being bounced, but she wanted to add something, so Tala raised a hand. “If I may?” she smirked “I have a suggestion, based on some experience.” Merc started “Fake crashing is all well and good, but that won’t draw their attention for too long.” she eyed them “I suggest that I, the Mando dude here.” she pointed at Taab “And anyone else who has a tough armor and ground pounder experience to cause enough mayhem. Maybe make it look like it was a pirate raid, which won’t be hard given my looks and the Beskar armor.” she grinned “We can move fast, blow osik up and send them on a wild Bantha chase.” she shrugged. “Just an idea.”

    IC: Zara Yaren
    Briefing

Zara was awake, which was more than she'd intended for the day, but a summons was a summons, even if she wanted to ignore it. The squadron was big enough, what was one pilot one way or the other? They probably wouldn't notice.

Regardless of the temptation, she dragged herself upright, splashing water in her face in lieu of caf, or something stronger. The wedding hadn't been enough, or had been too much, and either way she didn't want to speak to a single person today. The briefing put a damper in those plans, but as long as they weren't setting off immediately-- and how could they, down half a squadron's worth of ships?-- she could continue with her day's plans of doing absolutely nothing.

Most everyone was there when she slipped in, taking a seat away off from anyone she knew might try and engage with her. Kayn was there already, settled in, as was the one from the previous night. Traer the separatist. Shouldn't have talked to him at all. Talking caused nothing but problems.

Safely a few seats away from either of them, it didn't take too much longer for the briefing to begin. Something about a mole, again, something about a listening post, something about sending a bunch of pilots, again, to do a groundpounder's job. Zara knew she could handle a ground mission, Max too, maybe a handful more, but hadn't Naboo proven this wasn't the group for this? She didn't have to say it, though, she could tell she wasn't the only one uncomfortable with this.

Zara closed her eyes as Flagg talked over the site. EM jamming worked both ways, blinding them as much as the Imps. The bunker seemed straightforward enough, except for the hundreds of stormtroopers and whatever other reinforcements they inevitably added since this information was gathered. If they had walkers the mission could be over before it began, she doubted any of them knew how to operate anything heavy enough to take those down.

"We do have a list of the agents assigned to the outpost for all the good it will do us."

Curiosity got the better of her, and Zara peeked open an eye to scan the list. None of the names seemed familiar, not that she expected them to--

Wait. Terren Aves. Somewhere, deep in her memory, she knew that name. Now truly not listening to whatever planning was going on, Zara frowned, trying to dredge up why it was familiar. It was so long ago, on Denon maybe? A name heard in passing...

    "It's an alias, don't worry."

Zara startled herself as the answer came to her. Not an alias. His real name. Called out by an Imperial that had recognised him while they were scouting. And she'd believed his excuses, trusted the confident smile.

Her fingers found the datacard in her pocket, and slid it out, turning it over in her hands. Not here, not where someone might see. But if she was right, and if Max's sources were as good as she claimed... Zara would know soon.

    And end it.

    Briefing

Ethan listened, looked on as the briefing continued. It was again different from what he was used to. In the armies he had served in before he and the other soldiers had simply been told what to do. In the ORSF they had been allowed and even encouraged to suggest modifications or even alternatives to the plan but in any case the superiors would always have the last word. In the GAR and later the Imperial forces even that bit of own think had been ignored, it was follow the orders and nothing else.

Here everyone, including brand new members seemed to get full input. It amused Ethan a bit but also in a sense frustrated him. If the previous missions are any indication everyone will go of on their own separate plans once we start the mission anyway.

Another question in his mind was to the value of the information they where sent to gather. Where they similarly as 'important' as the oh so influential imperial VIPs at the wedding?

Curiously he scanned the list of agents, just in case he knew one of them. But none of the names stuck out to him, even if that didn't have to mean anything. He decided to look deeper into it once he got the time.

    Ic Cassell, Finnefrael, MacKenzie.
    Briefing Room - 11% of a plan?

Cassell leaned back and nudged Holly gently. “I’ve a train of thought though I might your help with some of the details...”

MacKenzie had been listening but not a single plan seemed to make much sense. He knew a bit of the Empires lack of security and their weak spots in this kind of situation. Cassells suggestion gave him cause to nod. "Run with it. I have your back."

Cassell raised a hand to indicate he wanted to speak and waited a moment before doing so. “Given the numbers we have... we have two potential plans... with variations of. If we go the infiltration and subterfuge route, we’ll need a small team that are familiar with the Imperials, uniforms, documentation and a transport. What would their purpose be for showing up at the facility?”

"Maintenance." MacKenzie suggested. "This kind of facility is maintained on a regular basis. They keep the passwords changing and the encryptions new as the Empire knows they are vital."

“Alright, so maintenance... or a variation of. That would be a small crew otherwise it might attract quite a bit of attention having the bulk of us there. So, while that plan goes into play, we have a contingency plan. The Valkyria.” He let that linger in the air for the moment for effect. “We take the approach Captain Ordwgal had set up...”

"Come in through the ring field, approach the moon from the dark side" Holly paused. "Flying low. Really low." He smiled. "Like 'I see a bird’s nest' low in the Valkyria and two escorts. Really fast escorts. They don’t tend to look down in this kind of facility.”

“Aye... or a variation of such. Two escorts would be enough if we need it. The more ships we have pass through the atmosphere with us... the higher chances we are spotted. Not to mention the issue of terrain and landing in a jungle. Anyhow. We land, the ground team deploys. I suppose I can fit a few recon crafts onboard or in an external pod... they take that within distance of the facility. From there, it’s up to whether or not the first team is in play, in need of a rescue or... if there is no first team then go in and do what they need to do. I’ll leave the how’s and whys of that aspect to more knowledgeable individuals.”

“The cargo hold of the Valkyria can hold 4 undicur class speeder bikes. Eight ground crew on board with two per bike.” MacKenzie said as he narrowed his eyes to think. “Digger has a full down load but frankly it’s too big to transport for this mission.”

“Too bad he isn’t as small as an MSE droid.” Cassell remarked.

“We can upload an MSE with the information carried in Digger and programmed with what is needed. That’d be easy to strap to the back of a speeder.” He looked to Cassell for confirmation of the cargo holds’ capacity and his thoughts.

“We can fit a few of the Undicur bikes in the hold. They take up less space than the usual swoops and bikes.”
Cassell said. “I’d rather that than enlarge the Valkyria’s profile more than necessary with additional cargo pods.”

"The rest of the squadron stays outside the field. We need them ready to strike if things go south." MacKenzie added. He looked across the room. "It's the outline of a plan."

Feral was listening as Cassell and MacKenzie discussed their thoughts on the plan. He took some notes, jotted down thoughts, and made changes to the plan he’d come up with because of their comments. Leaning over after he had, he tapped MacKenzie on the shoulder. ”One thing, the squadron, whichever are flying their craft will need to stay potentially too far away to give the Valkyria people aid, due to the interference it would generate in signals the facility receives.”

Looking at his notes again, ”Otherwise, I’d throw my support to your plan. But I’d want to make sure that those best suited to ground battle are the ones taken. Whether through physiology or experience. Which means winnowing through the flights to find such individuals. But, besides that, unless there’s a better idea, I think this one has the best chance for success.”

MacKenzie turned and gave a slow nod. He still wasn't sure about the 'new guy' but knew he was correct. Anyone waiting literally in the wings would be too far away to be of assistance to anyone. "Maybe that is a risk we will have to take," he stated simply.

Feral nodded, a curt motion, at MacKenzie's response. "Trust me, they'll probably take that possibility of risk coming from you or Cassell than they would from someone, even a Captain, that has just joined the unit. However," he glanced across the briefing room, making it a general look at all there, "knowing some of who will be in the ground element, and having ground combat training myself, I will submit my name for that group."

That was interesting and it wasn't going to go unanswered. MacKenzie knew he had to go as he was the most recent addition from the Empire despite the fact he was a Rebel infiltrator at the time. "I have a little ground assault training and recent Imperial knowledge. My hat is in the ring."

    Briefing.

She'd been hiding her face for the most part but when he spoke she turned to listen. Working with Cassell, Amber's heart beat a little faster as they seemed to come up with a plan and were like a team. It hadn't taken long for Cassell to accept him and he seemed to have accepted Cassell. She let out a tiny sigh, then the new man spoke. She turned to him and was entranced by his accent and mesmerizing eyes. They were what had caught her attention when he'd hauled her out of the jungle, those eyes. Between the three of them they seemed to have come up with something workable.

Then they both volunteered to go. Amber's heart jumped a beat, this was another suicide mission! She knew all their missions were pretty much suicide missions, but the ground crew were most in danger. She thought for a brief moment, if Fox was going out, Cassell might need a co pilot. She was the only other one in the room who'd flown the Valkyria, and she'd manned the guns as well. She knew both roles. Her mind was made up, she had no ship, so she raised her hand. "Skipper? You'll need a gunner in case, and potentially a back up co pilot." She smiled weakly, "you know I can do it, I've done it already."

To be honest Ianna wasn't paying attention to the briefing, the events of the wedding still dancing in her head but, she got the gist of it. Another ground mission, one that they would be out of their fighters for. It seemed they weren't being given much other than what they had, which was fine, they were more than capable. While she might not have been trained as a marine she was still a pretty good shot with her rifle. She wasn't much of a strategist either so she was letting the others do most of the planning. It would all turn out ok, she was sure of it.

"Well, if you need someone to do some long range shooting, I'm pretty good with my daddy's rifle." She offered, they should know her capabilities.

OOC: Meant to put this up awhile back during the wedding but things got away. A little interlude from the mission planning...

    IC: Lieutenant Commander Dietryk Gray
    282nd Death's Head Squadron
    Somewhere in the Galaxy

"Skulls, press the attack! Separate out the fighter escort from the bombers," Lieutenant Commander Dietryk Gray ordered as the TIE Defender squadron pushed harder into the thick of the fighting.

The battle had been raging for two hours. Neither the Rebellion nor the Empire had given much ground and casualties continued to mount. The Skulls had hypered into the conflict about a half hour after hostilities started and had more than met their match with a fierce Alliance response.

Dietryk checked his sensors noting yet another merge occuring between the Imperial and Rebel fighter squadrons. Blips quickly winked out as craft were destroyed on both sides. Now the larger capital ships were engaging one another at range. Swapping blows as each side tried to gain the upper hand.

A squadron of Y-Wings had broken away from the main attack group and were charging hard toward one of the Imperial escort carriers. Dietryk transferred more power to his engines at the expense of his lasers and gave pursuit. His wingman remained tightly in formation as the pair of Defenders closed the distance with their intended target. His targeting computer chimed with a lock. A flick of his thumb activated all lasers at his disposal.

Dietryk depressed the trigger as a blaster of ion and laser cannons shot out from his tri-wing fighter and engulfed the lead Y-Wing. The lead Y-Wing was obliterated in one shot. It's engines and fuselage ripped apart in a violent eruption of debris. Dietryk watched with satisfatction as his wingman snagged another lumbering bomber. The remaining bombers began to take evasive meaneuvers. It was pointless, really. Y-Wings just didn't stand a chance against the advanced hardware of the TIE Defender.

"Stay with me," Dietryk said to his wingman as he tore through the scattered formation.

He deftly barrel rolled the Defender up and away from the dispersing Y-Wings and recalibrated his lasers. He wanted to obliterate the remaining targets quickly so as to return to the thick of the action in order to put an end to this Alliance resistance in this particular system once and for all. His eyes caught sight of the remaining Y-Wings. Only three remained. The rest of his squadron had downed the rest.

"Take them out," Dietryk ordered as he bracketed one of the Y-Wings and watched with muted satisfaction as it fell to his guns. Today was shaping up to be a great day for the Empire.

"Lieutenant Commander," a voice said in his head, "urgent message priority one."

Dietryk cursed and killed the simulation. The lights flicked on as the simulation canopy opened. Dietryk quickly clambered out of the cockpit and took off his helmet tucking it under his arm as he accessed his datapad and the message. He'd have to return to that simulation later. Dietryk finished reading the message and lowered the datapad as the full weight of the message hit him hard in the gut.

Dietryk pushed aside his initial shock as his initial reaction faded to muted anger. He curled his fists in rage. Blind rage. He screamed and threw the datapad against a nearby support column where it shattered into hundreds of pieces. He was furious.

Louise Gray, Vehn she called herself now, had remarried. Equally disturbing was the fact that she was still alive. Somehow, someway, she'd gotten off SonTay. The woman was hard to keep down, hard to defeat. He re-read the message again to verify its authenticity. Everything checked out. Lou had remarried. The information was legitimate.

By the laws of the Empire they were still legally a couple. He had been aware through court documents after their separation that Lou had pursued an annulment with the Roonian courts. While successful that only went so far. For the Alliance, perhaps, it was far enough. Far enough for her to not only a traitor to the Empire but a traitor to her true and legitimate marriage.

"I will hunt you down," Dietryk said to nothing and no one "and kill you and your husband. Next time we meet, Louise, you will die by my hand. I promise you that much."

    GM Update
IC: Major Beskaryc Taab/Commander Flagg (NPC)/Flight Officer Quinn (NPC)
    Black Sheep Briefing room

At the front of the room Flagg raised a single hand putting an end to the discussion. "All right, all right." He intoned, "I've heard enough." He frowned, they didn't really seem to have much in the way of alternatives. There was no time to set up a true infiltration, the immanent attack by the other squadrons on the facility took away that option. Besides, they didn't have access to the uniforms, credentials or craft that would be needed to pull off such a plan. They couldn't arrive aboard the Valkyria posing as a work crew, and besides that, most of their number could never pass as Imperials anyway. Still there was something to be taken away from everyone's input that could be formulated into a plan. He like the idea of bringing along speeder bikes for example. If any of the appropriate type were actually aboard the Intrepid. Still there was the issue of how to actually get to the surface undetected. Flagg wasn't sure creating a diversion and putting the base on alert that something unusual was afoot was the best play. It was of course then that Harley raised her pale pink hand skyward.

"I have something to say Boss," she said awkwardly, though Flagg bade her to continue. "You guys are awwwwl" she stretched out the word all in a way that hurt Taab's ears, "overthinking this." The Mandalorian grunted from his place at the back of the room, he doubted any real thought had ever originated from the Zeltron, she was like a mad striil, acting without any forethought or plan. She turned to give the Mandalorian a nasty look, but she continued on anyway. "With all that interference they probably won't detect us coming out of hyperspace no matter what." She pointed to the frenzy of EM activity put off by the super active gas giant the facility orbited around. "Probably isn't good enough Wildcard." Flagg tried to let her down gently. "Those arrays are making some sense of the static there, so my bet is they might pick up something in the regions a ship would normally drop out of hyperspace."

Quinn just smiled and shook her head at that. "Then we come out of hyperspace somewhere else silly, like below their sensor coverage." There was silence in the room at that for a moment. "What?" she finally asked. "You're suggesting we drop out of hyperspace below their sensor coverage?" Flagg asked incredulously to which she only gave an enthusiastic nod. "That's inside the moon's gravity well." Taab said sternly. "It's suicide." Indeed it could very well be Flagg thought to himself. Dropping out of hyperspace that close to the moon would give them next to no time to slow down. And that's if their calculations were perfect, if they weren't they would just slam into the gravity well at hypervelocities.

"It's what we do," Harely said, her voice demonstrating her annoyance at Taab's lack of originality. "Besides, I bet Mistah W here can get us down in one piece." She looked to Captain Wystari and winked. Flagg took a moment to consider her idea. It would indeed get them to the surface unnoticed, if they could pull it off. They would need a freighter pilot with nerves of steel and with amazing piloting ability. He looked to the Valkyria's captain, the one so recently commended for just such accomplishments. If there was anyone who could get the Valkyria down in one piece with such a gambit, it was him. He began nodding his head.

"All right, just one ship, the Valkyria" he held up a finger dismissing the idea of bringing in escort fighters. "Our margin for error on this is so low I don't want to risk bringing in more. Gather gear and equipment for our infiltration. If we can get the speeder bikes, bring them along. We'll need data discs and the like for copying as much of the database as possible. We should probably bring an astromech or three along as well..." Fitting them on a bike would be near impossible, but some of the group would no doubt be on foot anyway.

"Once we land, we'll survey the site and make our plan from there." It was leaving a lot to improvisation, but after all improvisation was what the Black Sheep did best.

OOC: Sorry again about the delay. Still not real happy that this is as far as I brought us, but I wanted to give you all a chance to respond as well before we ship out. Going to give just a week here though and then move us on to the mission launch. Figure that's enough OOG time to mention any reaction to this crazy plan before we head out. Obviously the plan devised by Quinn is based on the infiltration of Starkiller Base in TFA. Some of her dialogue was likewise inspired by the first Suicide Squad film.

Are they crazy? I believe so.

Taking the weight off his shoulder against the wall MacKenzie stood up and listened to Harley. The woman was insane but somehow clever at the same time.

    How did that even work?

She had taken their plan and simplified it. Maybe that was it? She was simple? It didn’t matter as he turned to Cassell to get his approval of the outline. Kayn spoke and he turned to listen. Hooking his brain directly to the Valkyria? This was a new one on him and judging by the look on Skippers face he wasn’t overly impressed by the suggestion. “Would it work?” He asked the older man having no knowledge of such things. If nothing else Rebels were a creative bunch indeed.

Cassell let out a low whistle.

Harley’s suggestion was definitely on the wild side. Her confidence in his piloting abilities to pull off such a manoeuvre and get them there in one piece was another thing altogether. One miscalculation and that will end the day in a spectacular fashion.

“I...ah, well.” He gave a nervous chuckle. “No pressure.”

Cassell regarded Kayn and nodded. “By all means, please do. I’ll need all the assistance I can get with threading that needle.”

He looked over to Holly and shrugged. “Theoretically. There’s a reason hyperdrives have safeties but I suppose there are worse ways to go than with a bang. Ah, excuse me, Commander...” He looked to the podium. “If we are going this route. Would there any detailed astronomical information regarding the the properties of the moon? Mass, atmosphere composition, gravitational forces... any scrap might be of help with refining that target window...” He glanced about the room and stopped at Kayn. “...or do we just wing it?”

    Impromptu Meeting

With her mouth hanging open, ready to catch flies as some would put it, she found herself shocked. This was insanity! If not down right lunacy right now! She had no words, and this was the plan they were now supposed to follow? With a brain scrambled Devorian being their safety net of jump calculation programmer? Really!?!?

Raising all four hands her mouth gapped at everything, until something finally pushed through as others talked about target windows. "Under protest!" she exclaimed in a defeatist wail, she knew she had no ground or leverage to do anything after the stunt she had pulled and so far gotten away with. They were pilots for crying out loud and that was supposed to mean something!

Dropping her hands to clap on her legs she got up and left. She would ready her blasters and a camo pilot suit for wherever they were going and see about the sitter for Chak. So much for being in a squadron.

Eager to do her part, ignorant of the dangers.

Harley had laid out her plan and now there were several plans in the room, and they all sounded plausible to the hapless pilot. She was never good at planning such things so when Kayn offered to connect his brain up, that caused her to screw her nose up and an involuntary shiver went through her. Amber could never imagine what it felt like to have electronics inside her brain, but he seemed to cope. Skipper was less enthusiastic, then Akiva stated she wasn't happy at all, in fact she was protesting. Now Amber was confused, was it a good idea? Were any of them good ideas? Looking at the entire mission, none of it seemed like a good idea, pilots on the ground holding weapons they only knew the basics of in some cases. Her brain hurt too much still, her hangover making it hard to concentrate so she looked down and closed her eyes to listen. Let those with clearer and smarters heads work it out, she'd just listen for now.

Wondering how often the universe will still try to kill him before he can finally retire

Kayn´s idea sounded like pure insanity to him, but then again, pretty much everything this squadron had done so far was only really feasible for someone who had clearly lost most of their grip on reality. And what does that make you? The one who miracolously avoided going insane? Or in his own way the most insane of them all? Well the answer was probably both, in equal measures.

Maybe he truly should have left when he had the chance, but now it was too late for stuff like that. So instead he said, "on the topics of Astro Mechs, I´ve uploaded some of the old imperial codes I had into R7, as well as some tactical data on them." What he didn´t say was that he had primarilly done so to help the little guy detect potential irregular occurences in battle, occurences that could help him gather more information on a potential mole. "He might be able to get into the imperial database with them, get the informations we need."
