Classics Star Wars: Ewoks (1985-1986) discussion, rewatch, information & analysis thread

Did a full watch via Disney+ of Ewoks recently, and it was rough. Really had to force my way through it. Granted the show was written for small children, but it was pretty bad. It's a shame they sank the animation budget into the toilet for season two, because story wise it was actually more palatable. But all in all, wow, maybe the worst example of Star Wars property outside the Ewok movies.

 

I think I might have been a little overly optimistic about them fully reviving Ewoks on Disney+. Although I'd personally love that, Ewoks is a show of its time and it might not appeal to today's kids. Not that I think Lucasfilm have forgotten the show. Thanks to the comics and short stories (e.g. The Kroolok and Forces of Destiny), a surprising amount of things from Ewoks are still canon.

I think it's more likely that Ewoks will first show up in The Mandolorian or something. We've already seen the Disney+ shows tell stories about Tuskens and Jawas. It's not too outlandish to see an episode or two about our favourite alien teddies. I have a theory that Luke's Jedi Temple might be on Endor.

In all seriousness, although the presentation is very juvenile, it is nice to see them do another cartoon with the Ewoks. The character designs are pretty cute, and I don't normally like flash animated cartoons. I just hope we'll get something closer to Forces of Destiny next time.
