Jake and Versa do not know that Mortak is Rakkan, they think he’s the Sith lord who trained him.

Rakkan does not know he’s fighting Jake and Versa, because the lighting is very dim, and they are dressed as imperial officers. He thinks they are Jedi working for one of the other imperial factions.

The lightsaber fight involves jumping from moving hover trains across the planet, to inside junk melting factories, and on the ruined tops of old buildings, poking out of garbage littered, toxic waters.

At the end of the fight, Mortak knocks Versa down and is about to stab her when she falls back into a more well lit area, and her face is visible. Mortak freezes and says “Versa?”

He steps back a few feet and looks at Jake, who had just landed on the same platform “Jake?”

Jake rushes over to Versa and helps her up, looking at Mortak suspiciously. Mortak pulls off his helmet and looks at them and says, “Is it really you two?”

He looks shocked to see them, and looks slowly down at his lightsaber, as if he can’t believe he almost killed his two friends, before an explosion at his feet sends him flying off the building. Aliisa’s ship is flying in and shooting at him. He falls of the building but manages to land on another, force jumping and tapping something into his wrist communicator. His own ship flies along side him and he jumps into it, all the while dodging Aliisa’s shots.

Aliisa lets him go to turns around and pick Jake and Versa up.

When they tell her that was Rakkan, her face goes white with shock.

    MEANWHILE:

In a private communication’s room, politician Tardev Shen kneels in front of a holographic communicator (Like Vader and the Emperor in Episode 5)Tardev tells the giant projection of Thrawn that everything on his end has been completed.

Thrawn asks which ships have been selected. Tardev tells him “The Liberator,” as well as about 5 other capital ships.

Thrawn tells him he has done well, and that he will be rewarded with the highest rank in the new Empire.

Tardev says he has had to hide his passion for the glory of the empire to be restored for so many years, is it really about to happen?

Thrawn says yes, because thanks to Tardev, he’s already won the coming battle.

    MEANWHILE:

Aliisa looks really shaken as she pilots Jake and Versa to Coruscant. Leia had contacted them, urgently wanting to meet with them again.

As she lands on the platform outside Leia’s skyscraper penthouse on Coruscant, Jake and Versa hop out. Then to their surprise, Aliisa takes off again and flies away. Versa puts a hand on Jake’s shoulder as says she probably just needs some time to process what happened.

They enter Leia’s house, and she comes out and hugs them and takes them into a private room and tells them she thinks Tardev Shen could be behind the politician behind the connection with Thrawn. Versa says that makes no sense, because he’s been the strongest supporter for gathering a large army and attacking Thrawn, even meeting with and congratulating the captains on their bravery.

Leia says that’s true but something doesn’t feel right about him, and they had decoded part of the data pad Jake had recovered last time, in which his name was mentioned several times. Not quite enough to incriminate him, but does make him a suspect.

Leia wants Jake and Versa to help get to the bottom of this once and for all.

    MEANWHILE:

Luke is organizing and doing some last-minute training with his Jedi students and fellow masters on Naboo, some being made members of Rouge Squadron, others being given armor and loading into troop ships, for an attack on Thrawns capitol ship.

    MEANWHILE:

Darth Mortak has landed back at Thrawn’s fortress and just sits there for a minute. He still has his helmet on but you can tell he is shocked. He storms back to his quarters and activates the hologram of Darth Sadow. He tells him because of his teachings he almost killed his friends.

Sadow tells him it’s unfortunate that he didn’t, because killing someone he once had an attachment to would free him from the chains to the light and allow him to finally fully revel in his new found power.

Suddenly an alarm starts blaring. Overhead speakers say possible incoming enemy craft.

Mortak leaves his quarters and enters the anti-air control room. He demands to know what’s going on, and the operators say it looks like a cloaked enemy ship is attempting to enter their airspace. They can’t see it, but odd heat signatures and cloud movements indicated the possible presence of a ship.

Mortak looks at the screens for a moment then says there is a ship, and to prepare to fire on coordinates he is pointing at. They do, and a turbocannon blasts what appears to be empty space, suddenly hitting Aliisa’s cloaked ship flying towards the planet. Now that they can see it, several more enemy cannons fire at the ship, destroying it utterly.

Several gunners cheer and the computer recognizes the ship once it was made visible, as belonging to Aliisa Schacwol, one of the 4 hated New Republic heroes who captured "The Annihilator." Rakkan freezes, and though you can’t see his face, you can tell by his body language that he is shocked.

    MEANWHILE:

In the space over Coruscant, a grand fleet with thousands of ships has been assembled. It’s made up of hundreds of smaller ship groupings, with 5 or 6 similar looking ships comprising each small fleet from a New Republic world. The ships vary wildly in design and size, the only constant being that each ship group has the New Republic color and banners painted on somewhere on the ship.

Dwarfing them all is the massive ship “The Liberator” which will serve as the flagship of the navy, and where New Republic Admiral Davic Trelton will command and coordinate the battle.

In a huge conference room aboard “The Liberator” Davic is addressing a crowd of hundreds, gathered in the hangar bay. Each person in the crowd is the commander of every one of the small fleets that have gathered. Davic goes over the plan, with a massive holographic projector showing what he wants to do.

“We know that Thrawn’s forces are powerful, but the fleet we have all gathered here easily outnumbers his fleet by a 3 to 1 margin. Our spies tell us Thrawn is gathering all his forces together for one great battle against us. This is our best chance to utterly crush his fleet once and for all.

This ship, now named “The Liberator”, can easily destroy at least 10, if not a 50 star destroyers on it’s own, but we may not be able to get close enough to Thrawn’s command ship to destroy him.

Our Twi’lek allies have capital ships that are incredibly fast, and are equipped with shield draining turbo cannons. These ships have the ability to channel all their power, including that from their shields, to inflict massive damage on enemy shields.

If the entire Twi’lek fleet fires on Grand Admiral Thrawn’s flagship, they should be able to quickly disable it’s shields. This will leave their own ships vulnerable, so we are relying our Rodian allies, who have the strongest ships in our fleet, to maneuver in and act as shields for the Twi-lek fleet while they fire.

Even when shields are down on Thrawn’s flagship, it will still be able to maneuver, and take cover behind other star destroyers. That’s why we need to have at least 2 Slev-class attack pods already in position.

These small cloaked vessels, given to us by our Fal’leen allies, have the ability to quickly drill through unshielded ship hulls, and allow boarding parties to enter the ship. Inside each attack pod, Jedi Master Luke Skywalker will have groups of Jedi knights ready to board.

If we capture or kill Grand Admiral Thrawn, the battle may more quickly turn in our favor, despite our significant advantage in numbers. Do not underestimate Thrawn, he is a tactical genius, and he’s won many battles when he was outnumbered.

We have also had reports of some kind of new superweapon Thrawn’s ships are equipped with. We have reason to believe this is simply propaganda, purposefully released by Thrawn’s forces to sow fear among our ranks. Nevertheless, if anything should happen to me or this command ship, every commander here is ordered to fight on, applying what battle tactics you know. Imperial Star destroyers are equipped with a lightspeed dampening field, so it will be impossible for any ships to escape to lightspeed once the battle has begun. This battle will not end until one side is totally obliterated.

This is our best chance to destroy Thrawn and his fleet once and for all. Good luck, and may the force be with you all.”

    MEANWHILE:

Thrawn is in his throne room, sending a fleet wide communications broadcast that every ship in his fleet is to assemble in orbit over his planet.

"Make sure every new supercannon on each ship is painted yellow and is prominently displayed, as I ordered, but absolutely no one is to fire that cannon until directly given the order to do so. Thanks to this new technology, the coming battle is as good as won."

Then he stands up and begins pacing as he speaks.

"I want all of my colors, symbols and flags to be removed from all ships, personal armor, vehicles and anywhere else it can be found. I don't want to see my symbol or colors ever again. We are THE EMPIRE. This is not a faction. I am not a warlord. We have combined once again, our fleet is unified, WE are unified. Replace every single one of my symbols, with the Empire's symbol. Today, the Empire is reborn! And today, we rise from the ashes to overthrow the New Republic!

All the troopers listening let out a cheer. After finishing the broadcast, Thrawn sends a message to Darth Mortak, and tells him he wants to speak with him.

Darth Mortak is sitting alone in his quarters, helmet off, looking shell-shocked. He hears the message from Thrawn but doesn’t respond, continuing to stare blankly at the wall.

Then another message comes to him, saying “Lord Mortak, we found the pilot of the enemy ship you destroyed alive in the wreckage. She was protected by a crash pod. We’ve taken her into custody.”

Mortak’s eyes widen. He instantly puts the helmet back on, and rushes out of the room. He runs down into the lower levels of the fortress complex, to the prisoner cells.

Aliisa is the only prisoner in there, with two guards standing at attention near the door. She is lying on the bed, obviously gravely wounded, and her eyes are closed.

Mortak orders the guards out of the room. When they hesitate, he shouts “NOW!” and the guards leave. Mortak then kneels down so that he's eye level with Aliisa, and says "Can you hear me?"

Aliisa slowly opens her eyes and sees him. She smiles weakly and says “Rakkan? Is that really you?”

Mortak slowly takes off his helmet. He is conflicted about if he really is “Rakkan” anymore, because of the things he’s done, and because he had been so immersed in his new identity as Darth Mortak.

“I…don’t know…. What are you doing here?”

“I came here to rescue you!”

“Rescue me? What are you talking about? I’m the one in control here! I’m in charge of these men. I can control the dark side. I don’t need rescuing!”

Aliisa’s eyes slowly close and she says “…Yes…. you do.” as she falls unconscious.

    MEANWHILE:

The New Republic Fleet is fully assembled and ready to go. Luke Skywalker and Rogue Squadron are in a group, and report in to the main ship. Admiral Han Solo and General Chewbacca are in a large attack capital ship, flanked by some of their best fighter pilots from their academy. Everyone reports in, and New Republic Admiral Davic Trelton is looking at a large holographic readout on the massive bridge of “The Liberator” showing all the ships checking in.

He says “All ships are in and accounted for. Stand by to make the jump to lightspeed.”

The fleet starts making the jump, different battle groups jumping together all across the skies of Coruscant.

That's the end of episode 9, but not the end of the story. Because I just couldn't fit the story I wanted to tell into only 3 movies, so there is actually a 4th and final movie.

Stay tuned for Star Wars Episode X: The Final Battle

    EPISODE 9 SUPER SHORT SUMMARY

Rakkan, who is now known as Darth Mortak, helps Thrawn eliminate his rival and absorbs his forces in a cool opening scene of the movie.

However, Rakkan is lonely and misses his friends, and the hologram of Darth Sadow tells him the way to feel better is to become a true Sith, and the book on how to do that is back on Ord Mantel, in the original crashed ship he found the hologram and lightsaber in.

Jake, Versa and Aliisa have also gone to Ord Mantel to try to find a clue as to why Rakkan turned to the dark side and where he got his training.

When Jake and Versa come across Rakkan, they are all wearing disguises and don’t recognize each other, so they have a big lightsaber fight on top of the moving hover trains. Just before Rakkan tries to kill Versa, he recognizes her, and he takes of his mask so they recognize him. Before they can say anything, Aliisa, not knowing that’s Rakkan, shoots at him with her ship. Rakkan escapes into his own ship.

Politician Tardev Shen is revealed to the audience to be the traitor working with Thrawn, but it’s unclear what the plan is.

Aliisa drops Jake and Versa off on Coruscant and then flies to Thrawn’s home base to rescue Rakkan. Her ship is destroyed by Rakkan, who doesn’t realize it’s Aliisa until it’s too late, and Rakken feels further guilt and shock when he realizes he killed her.

Later it’s discovered that Aliisa survived, much to Rakkan's relief. The New Republic fleet fully assembles and begins the trek towards Thrawn's territory.

Thanks for reading, and may the Force be with you!
