This little corner of the galaxy is rich in resources and industry, under my watchful term in the Senate we will see our profits increase many times over.

I’ve heard some grumbling about organized crime and smuggling. I will turn my back on those issues. Those businesses give us more opportunities to make profits, and as long as those entities are paying, who cares what they are doing? Quid pro quo my friends, keep that in mind when you come to me.

The people of Corellia can rest well in their beds tonight knowing that investing heavily in local industries will mean more credits in their bank accounts, as long as I am here speaking for them.

Good morning. It's my pleasure to represent the greenest world in the galaxy, Ithor.
He shot an amused glance at the Wookiee pod to let them know he was joking.

My name is Ish. Ish Kabibble. Friends call me Ishy. Until I invite you to do so, please call me Senator Kabibble. Though I do not have much public experience with this, please don't consider me new. I have been involved in considerable local politics since I was a pupa. After all, as the saying goes, all politics are local.

I am honored to represent my world and the Herdships going through the galaxy. I look forward to working with all of you, Republic and Empire, to make our galaxy everything it can be.

His hands were folded into an arch as he listened attentively to the other Senator's speeches. Certainly a diverse group. Of both peoples and ideas. From the speeches of his own fellow party members, that of Vito the Hutt and Bellorum of Corellia, he sensed there may be a contentious issue that was sure to arise at some point. One that could see divisions within his own party. It was a issue best avoided, fractions this early on...

A turn toward Bellorum: "Senator Bellorum as you have indicated, a strong focus on economic growth and integration is an essential ingredient for a healthy, unified society. The people of Atrisia would certainly be keen on exploring the deepening ties of industry and commerce for not only the galaxy at large but also directly between Atrisia and Corellia. Naturally in a fashion that benefits both systems,"

Senate chambers

The brief statement she’d made wasn’t exactly eloquent, but she didn’t care. Losing her patience and killing the speech writer had been unfortunate, but she would replace him when time permitted.

She’d barely settled in when a familiar voice caught her attention, immediately to her right was the Senator from Nubia… Aryan Graul.

This was a pleasant surprise, well maybe not a surprise. She’d known he would be there, just not so close. Their only meeting had been an interesting evening, where Bellorum had drugged the stiff then Chancellor. He’d arrived at a Sith Gala, and she’d felt his vexation over the escort Insipid had provided, as well as those gathered in general.

Bellorum had done him a favor by taking the edge off with a dose of a benzo. With a small sigh she realized he may have been given a little more than necessary, but it had helped Graul cope with Insipid’s garish display of a dead Marasiah Fel. He probably didn’t realize that he had her to thank for that.

While she listened to him speak, Bellorum couldn't help but think that the man was blessed with the sort of timbre that made women weak in the knees. Aryan’s voice was extremely appealing, and his speech was perfect, as if she’d expect anything less.

Pretending to read something on her datapad, the Dark Lady wondered if it would be inappropriate to initiate a conversation with him. Bringing up their last meeting would be awkward, but she was just settling on what to say when someone else addressed her.

Her eyes widened as she searched out who had spoken.

It was Villis Mohc, an ecclesiastic seated to her left. Bellorum had wondered what a cultist was doing in the Senate, and the opportunity had just been made available to ask that question. But not today.

It would be foolish to outright reject any alliance that might be lucrative, so she merely nodded and followed with a respectable lowering of her head. Her team had briefed her on not seeming to be too interested, or eager. It was fine, she’d play things cool.

She made a note to reach out to Vito, and to Valet Tal. It would be wise to get a read for any economic opportunities there.

Like many of you, I am exhausted of the turmoil that has so often consumed our world and the Galaxy as a whole. The seemingly generational cycle of destruction must be broken, if not for us, but for our children, and our childrens' children! We must put down our weapons and learn, as long as the road may be, to work with each other for a greater, more prosperous future!

I share your distrust for the Imperials. Believe me I do. But that is why it is so crucial that this political experiment succeeds, so we can ensure the likes of Palpatine and his ilk may never return to power. But let it be known to all that if we in the Senate are unsuccessful, and the Empire does fall back into old habits, trust me when I say that Onderon will not go quietly into the night! Never again will foreign boots march upon our soil!

Senate Chambers

In the artificially darkened segment of the Senate reserved for those that preferred or needed a darker environment, a talon extended through a slit in the black glove the hand wore. It tapped on the surface of the desk as the blue eyes of the being constantly roamed across the Senate. ’I now understand why we have never had a representative here…’ he thought.

As the introductions continued, Kigrael shifted in his seat, mind going back to when the Circle had discussed creating this position. He’d been skeptical, as had every other candidate until the ‘Cold Danda Sine’ master had explained that the Masters had decided that the almost constant state of warfare across the galaxy was becoming more and more detrimental to the Anzati. It was the same philosophy that had been used to get the usually fiercely independent creatures to actually vote for a representative to this Senate.

His train of thought was broken at the notice of a soft motion behind him. It brought a chuckle to his lips, as he was reminded of his ‘bodyguards’. When his people had informed the government that they would be taking part in galactic politics for the first time ever, the one requirement that had been presented them was that they would have such ‘protection’. Glancing over his shoulder for a moment his piercing blue eyes found the Knights deeper in the shadows behind his seat.

Their protection wasn’t for him, but more of a reminder not to eat the Senate. They were, perhaps, more nervous after he’d had a snack. But…the speechwriter had been too annoying and what he’d written, lackluster. And he hadn’t been told he shouldn’t feed so it was better he’d entered the first session with a bit of a top-up.

His attention returning to the bowl of the Senate he studied the others, a little over half human. “Hmmmm, almost evenly split between Imperial and Republic factions. Onderon, Atrisia, Bothuwai, Bakura, Corellia, Ithor, Nubia, Nal Hutta, Bellassa, and Kuat besides us so far have been the most vocal.” he mused in a low, flat tone. The ones that had his first attention were the nonhumans, often he’d found in his ‘travels’ that the nonhumans still had their own discrimination they faced and the possibility of using that was something to be considered.

The one that set the talon to tapping again was the Bakuran senator. As far as he recalled that world was a human one. The corner of his lip twitched, as he recalled a mention that there were a couple Twi-leks in the royal family of that world. The backlight of a datapad lit the shadows slightly, revealing his features. Fingers tapping swiftly, he brought up the data that was provided to the Senators once they took office. A nod, he’d been right, she was a member of the royal family, indeed.

’Ahh well could have been a pressure point with the Republic faction.’ he mused.

The momentary distraction faded and he sat back, the dim light of the datapad fading and darkness retaking its place. Time would tell how the factions aligned and how it affected the way the Senate operated, letting him decide how he’d involve himself in these short lived beings politics.

He had watched the speeches, thankfully Senator Olivetti had holographically recorded her speech before she had been due to leave Kuat.

But unfortunately a problem had cropped up and she was currently delayed in making her way to Coruscant. An emergency that had required her attention.

He had sent a message back to her saying that he would keep an eye on things in the chamber until she arrived. No doubt she would sadly potentially could miss a session but he would document it all so she could potentially respond to anything that came up.

A message had gone round to whomever was chairing and the fellow Senators. It was only polite to do so:

Dear colleagues,

Senator Olivetti apologises but she is currently delayed due to an emergency. She will hopefully arrive as soon as possible to participate in session. Until then I have been advised to watch proceedings and will alert her to any business that requires her attention.

IC: Jerrec Vaklu - Onderonian Representative
Senate Chambers

The flight from Onderon had been a quiet one for Senator Vaklu, the sole passenger aboard the nondescript shuttle assigned to his station. The first half of the journey had been rather productive, with him flipping through a series of reports collected by one of his aides on a number of prominent Senators he would most likely have to interact with on a semi to semi-regular basis. A typical bunch of sapients all things considered.

But that was a few hours ago, when he had been able to occupy his restless mind with an endless tirade of facts and trivia about his fellow Senators. Special note had been made about the Anzati representative, for example. Having never met a member of that particular species, Vaklu found himself curious to see whether the seemingly exaggerated rumors told in hushed tones across the Galaxy held any basis in fact.

Now, he found himself sighing wearily, his gaze turning towards the inscrutable tides of Hyperspace just outside the window. His thoughts had inevitably drifted back towards the single burning question he had been trying to avoid since his re-election. The same question undoubtedly facing all those elected or re-elected back into the halls of the Republic Senate. That being, What were they to do about those blasted Imps? Vaklu had been present a year ago, when the Emperor made his declaration to form a Constitutional Democracy.

Vaklu had scoffed at the idea then. Heck, the idea still sounded like a terrible joke from one of those cheap pacifistic vids back home. Why can't we all just get along?! They would preach. Yet, somehow, he found himself in route once more to the Senate Chambers to meet with the Imperial delegation. "The Empire Party." He quickly corrected himself with a weary sigh. In his re-election campaign, he had promised the people of Onderon to play nice, to offer the olive branch of peace, so to speak. And so he would. Just didn't mean he had to enjoy doing it.

By the time he had finally taken his seat within the Senate Chambers, it had appeared as if introductions had already begun, or at the very least first impressions made. Vaklu steady gaze fell upon each Senator in turn, starting with the Twi'lek, before moving onto the Hutt, the Ithorian, and so on, before finally landing upon the secluded Anzat himself. His expression remained passive throughout the inspection, offering nothing in the way of his own inner thoughts. The Ithorian, he decided, would be the first logical choice to speak with regarding policy advancement. Onderon had worked closely with their kind in the past, it would be only natural to strengthen that historic bond..

Vaklu sighed again, finding himself idly stroking his neatly trimmed beard in thought. ..I really need to hire some more aides..
