Star Wars: The RPF Galactic Senate Game: A Galactic Alliance

The First Order-Resistance War was perpetuated by the clones of Palpatine, scarred survivor that was Captain Phasma, and the remnant military juggernaut of the Empire, revealing Starkiller Base, superlaser-equipped Xyston's, and Galactic Jammers against an unsuspecting galaxy. It was only via the defeat of the Sith's legacy, the restoration of the New Republic Chancellorship on Chandrila, and a coup by reformist Imperials that the war was brought to a final end, eventually dubbed the Second Galactic Civil War, or, the SECOND GREAT WAR.

An Emperor reorganised the Empire into a peaceful GALACTIC ALLIANCE with the New Republic, Confederate, Hapan and Chiss nations, the Jedi Order acting as a guardian and member ally. In recent memory they have defeated the ONE SITH, a resurgent group of numerous darksiders that did not adhere to the Rule of Two, following a decade long conflict between factions of the Empire that supported competing Emperor's.

The current, light-side inclined Emperor now addresses the Senate, sagacious, given the proper respect that a Head of State would.

It is nearly a century since the Second Great War, and the Emperor is taking the lead in commemorating the ultimate defeat of the Sith; even their recent efforts did not compare to the scourge of Palpatine.

“The battles across the galaxy were ones which originated here, within the Senate. But, that time is over now.

“The depredations of Palpatine and his Sith Eternal Empire are history,” said His Imperial Majesty, letting his words flow, his voice carry, and looking as if he was speaking to each and every Senator in turn. “We have peace.”

“My position was affirmed to manage a peaceful transition. I know that many within the Alliance have feared for stability as the Empire grows stronger, and that I would invent a reason to extend my reach, that my ties to the Jedi Order, Imperial Knights and SkyWalkers would see me force my position.”

A murmuring among the Senators.

“But I would avert that tension, here and now. I have, with the agreement of the Council, today decided to open the Senate membership to elections, and from your numbers appoint a Chancellor and Vice Chair to manage the creation of a true constitutional democracy.”

“When we next return, we shall be a very different chamber, and I welcome it.”

A year passed.

The Empire and New Republic had become so entwined in the last years that it was impossible to draw borders across the galaxy, and so the entire Senate was drawn between two distinct political blocs.

The EMPIRE PARTY and the REPUBLIC PARTY took the majority of the seats, with a handful of neutral systems among them. Tensions remain; the joint government is relatively young, after all - the Old Republic lasted for twenty-five millennia; the First Sith Empire lasted for seven.

War has not broken out.

Yet.

All systems within the Senate must declare a faction.

All those outside the Senate...

... well, they are fair game.



Welcome to the SWC Galactic Senate Game. Post two will contain the Constitution of the Senate. Post three will contain the modifications for the Senate (if any). If you have questions about the game, please read through the constitution, or contact the forum moderator: Sinrebirth. This first post will be a placeholder to keep the roster of the game. It will be edited in the future to show the updated roster (probably monthly) along with the current Emperor, Chancellor, and Vice Chair.

Please, be sure to familiarize yourself with all three of the first posts. This will help you tremendously as the game continues.

Let the politics begin!! Take advantage of the first 10 days of the thread to make your political positions known and do so in-game (and within the rules) socializing so we can have a better idea of how the game will unfold.

 

The Premise

You are a Senator who must represent the will of your homeworld to the best of your ability.

The Senate maintains a working relationship with the Emperor that has come to rule after the First Order-Resistance War, and must work with that body in order to avoid yet another war. If you start to make them mad, an assassin droid with suspicious-looking, Imperial-like markings, or an Knight loyal to the Emperor might make its way into your luxury apartment. Equally, when sacrificing your soul to please the Chancellor, you will be making decisions that corrupt you -- become too corrupt, and you’ll lose your way.

But things are even more complicated; you have to not just appeal to your home-world - but your Party, and your Emperor...

The Rules:

This is RP Lite. I expect a handful of prompts from the Emperor (and later Chancellor, who will act as co-GM), and the players themselves to argue and debate among themselves for the duration of the Session. A full character sheet is not necessary, I look forward to you detailing your personas during the game. The game is an open format, so you may post as often as you like between sessions, and inside the Chamber arguing, or in the hallways being sneaky, or in your penthouses weaving political dalliances.

We worked hard to reach this moment, and I can’t thank you enough for all of your commitment and support over the last several months. From the shallow oceans and the rolling fields that divide our majestic mountains to the grand pinnacles of Rordis and Nubia City, the voters have spoken in one voice to deliver this great victory.

I thank the people of Nubia for electing me as your next Senator in the Galactic Senate. For as long as I hold office, I will do everything within my power to ensure that the work I do is up to your standards; I am here to serve you well and to make you proud. Most of all, I will remember that while the honor is mine, this Senate seat does not belong to any one person or political party—it belongs to the people.

In every corner of our world, I met with people, young and old, human and non-human, looked them in the eye, shook their hands, and asked them for their vote. I didn’t worry about their party affiliation, and they didn’t worry about mine. It was simply a shared conviction that brought us all together.

Fellow citizens, what happened in this election can happen all over the Republic. You and I are witnesses to the truth that ideals, hard work, and strength of heart can overcome any political machine or defeat any opposing force that may threaten our borders. We ran an unforgettable campaign and led a cause that deserved and received all that we could give it.

And now, as I proudly take up the duty you have bestowed upon me, I promise to do my best for Nubia and the Republic every time the roll is called. I go to Coruscant as the representative of truth, answering only to my conscience and to the people.

This little corner of the galaxy is rich in resources and industry, under my watchful term in the Senate we will see our profits increase many times over.

I’ve heard some grumbling about organized crime and smuggling. I will turn my back on those issues. Those businesses give us more opportunities to make profits, and as long as those entities are paying, who cares what they are doing? Quid pro quo my friends, keep that in mind when you come to me.

The people of Corellia can rest well in their beds tonight knowing that investing heavily in local industries will mean more credits in their bank accounts, as long as I am here speaking for them.

Greetings, my name is Amethyst Ordgwal, I am the senator elect for Bakura. First, I thank those who elected me and have entrusted me with the representation of my homeworld, great trust has been bestowed upon me, and I will endeavor to do my best to represent Bakura and defend freedom both there and in the galaxy at large. I am the daughter of two heroes of the second Galactic Civil war and therefore have a deep understanding of the need for not only my people but that of my shared heritage, Luxrel, to be free. As the cousin of the current Crowned Princess of Bakura, I believe I have the necessary 'pull' as it were to get the job done, and done with both class and dignity.

I look forward to working with everyone here for the benefit of the galaxy.

The brief statement she’d made wasn’t exactly eloquent, but she didn’t care. Losing her patience and killing the speech writer had been unfortunate, but she would replace him when time permitted.

She’d barely settled in when a familiar voice caught her attention, immediately to her right was the Senator from Nubia… Aryan Graul.

This was a pleasant surprise, well maybe not a surprise. She’d known he would be there, just not so close. Their only meeting had been an interesting evening, where Bellorum had drugged the stiff then Chancellor. He’d arrived at a Sith Gala, and she’d felt his vexation over the escort Insipid had provided, as well as those gathered in general.

Bellorum had done him a favor by taking the edge off with a dose of a benzo. With a small sigh she realized he may have been given a little more than necessary, but it had helped Graul cope with Insipid’s garish display of a dead Marasiah Fel. He probably didn’t realize that he had her to thank for that.

While she listened to him speak, Bellorum couldn't help but think that the man was blessed with the sort of timbre that made women weak in the knees. Aryan’s voice was extremely appealing, and his speech was perfect, as if she’d expect anything less.

Pretending to read something on her datapad, the Dark Lady wondered if it would be inappropriate to initiate a conversation with him. Bringing up their last meeting would be awkward, but she was just settling on what to say when someone else addressed her.

Her eyes widened as she searched out who had spoken.

It was Villis Mohc, an ecclesiastic seated to her left. Bellorum had wondered what a cultist was doing in the Senate, and the opportunity had just been made available to ask that question. But not today.

It would be foolish to outright reject any alliance that might be lucrative, so she merely nodded and followed with a respectable lowering of her head. Her team had briefed her on not seeming to be too interested, or eager. It was fine, she’d play things cool.

She made a note to reach out to Vito, and to Valet Tal. It would be wise to get a read for any economic opportunities there.

Senate Chambers

In the artificially darkened segment of the Senate reserved for those that preferred or needed a darker environment, a talon extended through a slit in the black glove the hand wore. It tapped on the surface of the desk as the blue eyes of the being constantly roamed across the Senate. ’I now understand why we have never had a representative here…’ he thought.

As the introductions continued, Kigrael shifted in his seat, mind going back to when the Circle had discussed creating this position. He’d been skeptical, as had every other candidate until the ‘Cold Danda Sine’ master had explained that the Masters had decided that the almost constant state of warfare across the galaxy was becoming more and more detrimental to the Anzati. It was the same philosophy that had been used to get the usually fiercely independent creatures to actually vote for a representative to this Senate.

His train of thought was broken at the notice of a soft motion behind him. It brought a chuckle to his lips, as he was reminded of his ‘bodyguards’. When his people had informed the government that they would be taking part in galactic politics for the first time ever, the one requirement that had been presented them was that they would have such ‘protection’. Glancing over his shoulder for a moment his piercing blue eyes found the Knights deeper in the shadows behind his seat.

Their protection wasn’t for him, but more of a reminder not to eat the Senate. They were, perhaps, more nervous after he’d had a snack. But…the speechwriter had been too annoying and what he’d written, lackluster. And he hadn’t been told he shouldn’t feed so it was better he’d entered the first session with a bit of a top-up.

His attention returning to the bowl of the Senate he studied the others, a little over half human. “Hmmmm, almost evenly split between Imperial and Republic factions. Onderon, Atrisia, Bothuwai, Bakura, Corellia, Ithor, Nubia, Nal Hutta, Bellassa, and Kuat besides us so far have been the most vocal.” he mused in a low, flat tone. The ones that had his first attention were the nonhumans, often he’d found in his ‘travels’ that the nonhumans still had their own discrimination they faced and the possibility of using that was something to be considered.

The one that set the talon to tapping again was the Bakuran senator. As far as he recalled that world was a human one. The corner of his lip twitched, as he recalled a mention that there were a couple Twi-leks in the royal family of that world. The backlight of a datapad lit the shadows slightly, revealing his features. Fingers tapping swiftly, he brought up the data that was provided to the Senators once they took office. A nod, he’d been right, she was a member of the royal family, indeed.

’Ahh well could have been a pressure point with the Republic faction.’ he mused.

The momentary distraction faded and he sat back, the dim light of the datapad fading and darkness retaking its place. Time would tell how the factions aligned and how it affected the way the Senate operated, letting him decide how he’d involve himself in these short lived beings politics.

Out of her depth, that's how she felt right now. Daughter of the youngest Princess of Bakura she'd done enough charity work, social work and support work to know what was needed in that sector of the galaxy. As her joint home work Luxrel had not presented a Senator, she felt compelled to look out for that worlds' best interests. This was a burden as she did not resembled the people of either world at all. As a non human from worlds inhabited by humans and near humans, Amethyst stood out clearly. Not only her appearance but her accent was not of the world most beings associated Twi'lek's with, Ryloth. Much of her upbringing had been on Bakura and she considered it home.

Looking around she took in the Imperial Senators, she had to fight the urge to verbally assault them all for no apparent reason. Her entire life had been about Republic = good, Empire = bad. It was hard to see the other side of the coin when it had never really been shown to you. Looking to her Bothan counterpart she admired the neat grooming of his fur and noted to mention it at a more private time. The Onderonian man looked very formal, seemingly knowing his part in all this. She'd never met an Ithorian before but the being held its large head regally and she looked forward to speaking to him. Looking over the Nubian man she smiled, he reminded her in some ways of her grandfather on Luxrel, her late grandfather and that made her feel a pang of sadness. Finally the senator from Kuat looked to be a very formal and elegant woman who carried herself with class, someone to admire.

Glancing over at the Imperial representatives she felt a darkness. Several 'looked' sinister, but in her mind she felt they were too and that was a prejudice she'd have to learn to over look and work around. Amethyst, or Amy as her family called her, had a hard road ahead, but she was confident she'd find her way and make her mark.
