Welcome to the Story of Smoke

    [image=http://www.asiawelcome.com/Images/Manga/Konoha_Symbol_mw2.gif]

    Eight years ago, the Village Hidden in the Leaf, Konoha, was attacked by the Kyuubi, the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox.

    [image=http://www.freewebs.com/dark-kyuubi-beast-clan/creepy-yondaime-vs--kyuubi-naruto-shippuuden-634129_1024_768.jpg]

    The Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze, sealed the demon fox inside his son, Naruto Uzumaki. This is but a small part of this story. The real story begins with Madara Uchiha, who was behind the attack, who is the leader and mastermind behind the group Akatsuki, a group of missing ninjas, ninja who have deserted their village, who are, seemingly, nothing but a powerful mercenary group.

    [image=http://www.narutoimagens.com/wall/naruto1930444971.jpg]

    They have been hired by several ninja villages to increase reputation and influence over other villages through the use of violence and their incredible strength, but recently the group has began searching for the tailed beasts and their hosts, called Jinchuriki. Their plan is to use the power of the Jinchuriki hosts to gain control of the world.

    While no village has stepped up in arms against the group because their true nature is known to only few, Konoha has begun working with Sunagakure to build a team to destroy Akatsuki before he group's influence shadows the entire ninja world. The group is made up of the ninja with the most potential. Their codename is SMOKE.

The group has been increasing its wealth by being mercenaries, but now that they have saved up a large amount of money, the group is now focusing on finding the the Jinchuriki, the people who have the tailed beasts sealed inside of them.

They are all headed by powerful ninjas known as Kages. While they normally work together, the villages are known to be suspected of conspiring against each other and even attacking each other. However, None of the villages wish for another war like the Third Great Shinobi War, so they have tried to be a force of peace in the Shinobi world.

While the team is a secret to everyone but Sunagakure and Konoha, ninja from other villages are ruled out from being able to join the team. The ninja have almost endless potential and are sent on missions that can limit and halt Akatsuki with the ultimate goal of destroying the group. The Players

    [blockquote]This game is the story of Smoke's members and their failure to stop Akatsuki, because they ultimately will fail in their objective. Canon characters are not entirely off limits, but I strongly discourage the use of them for the main fact that we know what happens to most of them and there is no story to be told there.

    There will be no character sheets. Take the time and write your own OP(Opening Post) that details who your character is, what, if any, clan they belong to, the nature of their chakra and their specialty (Taijutsu, Ninjutsu, and Genjutsu). Before you send me your OP, send a number between 1-6. Remember that the team is not built on the strongest ninja, but the ones with the most potential. There is a difference. Not everyone will start off a Smoke Member.[/blockquote

    Sunakagure no Sato

    Vast desert sands, blazing hot sun, dry arid air and violent sandstorms. To some, the land of wind would be seen as the ultimate personal hell, but to the inhabitants of this land and the shinobi of Sunagakure, it was nothing of the sort. It was simply home. And it was from across the sand dunes and desert plains that a lone figure made its way towards a giant cliff face, its presence indicating the main gateway to the village hidden in the sand. Adjusting the backpack on her back slightly she glanced upward at the cliff, A short gust of wind whipped across the plains, ruffling the bangs of her short caramel brown hair, the sunlight catching the surface of a metal headband that rested against her forehead. A small smile crept onto the girls lips. She had not been away from the village all that long, but to Kohaku Ozuki, it felt good to be home

    She had just completed an assignment, assisting the border patrol at an outpost on the southern-most boundary of the wind country, and now she had to return some reports and data from the outpost to the village elders. It wasn't the most exciting or thrilling task she had ever undertaken, but to the young Chuunin this task was just as important as any other. From walking nin-dogs to escorting high ranking officials and everything in between, the shinobi of Suna always gave it their all. Usually she worked as part of a squad, but this was a rare solo outing for her. Truth be told it was just a relief to have been given an assignment. Currently the demand for services from the sand shinobi was not what you would call overwhelming.

    It had been this way ever since the conclusion of the third great shinobi world war. Suna had sparked this war after becoming outraged by the disappearance and murder of their leader at that time, the third Kazekage. They came off badly in the end. Many shinobi were lost and the villages reputation had been tarnished considerably. Because of this, the feudal lord of the land of wind began outsourcing missions to other hidden villages, most notably Konohagakure in the land of fire. Suna's economic and military power suffered drastically as a result and even now in peace-time the effects were still being felt. Never the less, life in the sand village went on, waiting for the day that the village would return to its former glory.

    Finally reaching the entrance, Kohaku approached the security checkpoint, provided her identification and after getting the OK from the guardsmen?s ninja hound, made her way into Sunagakure?s central district. It was early afternoon and the streets were full of hustle and bustle, as people went about their daily lives. Stores were open and selling their wares and people walked the streets. Kohaku continued navigating the crowds, her steel blue eyes eventually settling on a large spherical building that rose proudly above the surrounding structures. The Sunagakure administration building. Village nerve centre and the residence of the Kazekage.

    As she neared the building, the sound of children laughing and playing caught her ears and she turned her head in the direction it was coming from. To her right was the front entrance of the villages ninja academy. The children must have been on their recess, The younger ones chasing each other around with cardboard shuriken while the older ones stood around coolly in groups chatting. The sight brought a nostalgic smile to Kohaku's face as she took in the scene. She too had attended this very academy when she was younger. Though the training intensive and the teachers strict, Kohaku graduated the academy and became a genin at the age of twelve. Now aged twenty-one it felt like a lifetime ago. She remembered that she was at the top of her game when it came to learning ninja arts, but just managed to scrape through the kunoichi aimed classes such as food preparation and flower arrangement much to her sensei?s frustration. A tomboy through and through, she always felt more at home hurling shuriken than picking posies. Turning her

    Ken Hiroshi
    -Sunagakure

    It was a day after Kohaku Ozuki received her notice that Hiroshi Ken received his. His letter stated that he would be travelling with Ozuki and a Konoha escort. He cringed at the latter. Why were they being escorted there by a Konoha-nin like they were children? Ken realized that ever since the War, Sunagakure's power and influence had decreased, but that did not mean that Shinobi had lost their honor and pride for their village. Ken took it as a sign of disrespect, however, the village elders had ordered him to contact Ozuki for their trip and to rendezvous with the Konoha-nin at a small oasis outside of the Village and that is what he was going to do, regardless of his feelings.

    As he packed his belongings, some tools, clothes, and the small amount of money he kept in his apartment, Ken began to think about Ozuki. It had been a long time since he had seen her and an even longer time since they had held a conversation. It had been in the days at the academy that he had first developed his like for her. She was always beautiful to him and they had been friends, as far as child friendships could go. Everything had changed when they had been put in different genin groups and Ozuki's group had failed to pass the Chunin Exam the first time. Ken did pass and the distance between them grew greater.

    He did not have to wait to wonder what it would be like when they saw each other again, as, before he knew it, he was at her door. He was dressed in a black pants and a chain-netted shirt, his beige Chunin flak jacket, and his clan's trademark straw hat. He removed the straw hat before he knocked on the door and ruffled his hair, trying to look as relaxed as possible, despite the excitement that was inside him to see her.

    When she opened the door, Ken couldn't hide his smile. "Hey Kohaku."
    ------
    O Osamu

    He saw the two Suna-nin that were supposed to be meeting him here approaching in the distance. Both were in their early twenties, like him, and both were Chunin, like him. However, that was where the similarities ended. Osamu was in a black full body suit with a dark cloak that covered most of his body. He wore a tubeteika that covered his hair and that held his forehead protector that was sown into it.

    He nodded at them once they were within speaking distance. He wiped patches of sweat off his face with the back of his hand and silently cursed the Land of Wind's desert heat. "I am Osamu." He said, stepping off the rock he was on to greet them. Osamu then beckoned them to follow him as he showed them the caravan that, he informed them, they were going to protect and escort to Konoha. He told them that the caravan was made up of Genin of different ages from smaller villages that were going to participate in the Chunin Exams.

    "We believe." He started as he gave the caravan leaders to sign to prepare for travel again. "That outside forces might not want to give these Genin a chance in order to ensure that the villages they come from do not rise in power. As you can see, they are mostly made up of Genin from the Land of the Wind."

    Osamu then appointed Ken to scout the next few miles ahead of the caravan and for Ozuki to round up the children and get their names. If everything went according to schedule, Osamu contemplated, then the trip should take no more than three days.

    The departure day to Konoha had finally arrived and Kohaku had risen early in order to prepare. She dressed in her usual attire, combat style trousers, a dark short sleeved shirt over which she wore a variation of the villages chuunin flak jacket. It was still beige in colour but lacked the shoulder and neck guards. She felt it was less restrictive and easier to move around and fight in this way. Picking up her pack that hung over the back of a nearby chair, she made an effort to double check its contents before exiting her bedroom. Walking into the living area, her eyes settled on a small shelf on the opposite wall. On this shelf sat a single photo-frame. It held an image of an elderly woman. Her white hair was styled in a traditional Japanese up-do and she was dressed in a royal blue kimono. A kindly smile graced her face and she had the same steely blue eyes that Kohaku possessed.

    ?Good morning Obaa-san?

    She said gently as she took a moment to reflect. For as long as she could remember, it had always just been Kohaku and her grandmother. Her name was Matake Ozuki and she had raised Kohaku from when she was only a few months old. Kohaku would often wonder about her parents, but Matake was always vague when it came to answering her curious grand-daughters questions. They had both died when she was very young and thats all she would say. Sadly, Matake died of old age when Kohaku was eighteen. She was deeply saddened by her dear grandmothers passing, but was comforted by memories of times they spent together, and with the help of her friends and fellow shinobi found the strength to move on. She was gone but would never be forgotten. A knock at the door pulled her out of her thoughts. Who would be calling on her so early?

    ?Just a minute!?

    She yelled apologetically as she walked quickly towards the door. Fumbling with the latch she pushed it open and came face to face a tall man in a chuunin vest. He had a straw hat clutched in his hand and a bright smile on his face.

    ?Hey Kohaku?

    Kohaku?s eyes widened as she looked him in the face, a slightly goofy expression crossed her face as realisation slowly dawned on her. He was taller than she remembered but she recognised those features Was it??It was!

    "K-Ken-san?!?

    She blurted out in surprise as she looked at the young man stood at her doorway. It had been such a long time since she had seen her old friend. In fact, the last time they had been around each other when they were still in their teens. They had been very close friends when they were younger and had attended the ninja academy together, graduating to the rank of genin at the same time. She had held a great admiration for Ken as a friend and a fellow shinobi, his talent for ninja arts had easily earned him a reputation as one of the best students of his graduating year. Upon becoming genin however, Kohaku was placed into a different squad to Ken. The childhood bonds that they had forged over the years seemed to weaken over time and distance grew between them due to their training and missions.

    The rare occasions that they were reunited were as each others opponents, most notably as rival teams in the chuunin exams. Ken passed the exam first time. Kohaku had not been so lucky, being defeated during a preliminary match against a rather ruthless grass genin. She remembered waking up in the hospital after the match. The defeat knocked Kohaku?s confidence considerably, making her feel inadequate in the eyes of her peers including Ken. She became more serious after that and threw herself into her training. Though unsure at first, she decided to attend the final matches as a spectator and witnessed his victory, but rarely saw Ken after that due to his new duties. And now after all this time they were standing opposite each other at the doorway of her apartment. Regaining her composure af

    -Sunagakure

    "Heh, yea." Ken cursed himself as a cheesy, boyish grin stretched his mouth out wide. He wanted to show her that he had grown up, but obviously not as much as Kohaku, for the main fact that Kohaku was now glowing at him with a relaxed smile. A smile that made her look like an elegant, beautiful young woman. She had really grown up, more serious than when they were kids. Ken scratched his head and pulled himself back into his resolve. The smile remained, but the boyishness of it disappeared.

    Ken nodded. "I've been fine. Missions have me flying all over different countries. Are you ready?"

    As they walked through the village, Ken began to feel more comfortable as he settled into being in Kohaku's company again. He told her of his struggles to adapt to his Clan's traditional values and that they were trying to control everything in his life. He also told her about his feelings toward the fact that they were being escorted by a leaf ninja.

    "I know we are trying to build our village back up and that alliances are essential to the process, but we are being, basically, guided by a leaf-nin who probably thinks he's better than us. Don't the elders realize that this is making us look weak to them?"

    Konohagakure

    Arashi awoke early in the morning and prepared for his regular exercises. Going over to his balcony he began to do vertical pushups while balancing on his railing, each time alternating arms. After about ten reps he switched over to hanging crunches, he was really starting to thank himself for deciding to replace the old wooden planks that used to be his guardrail for a nice metal set. After he had finished with that he proceeded to put on his jounin uniform and began to do some laps around the rooftops around the village, between the leaps, somersaults and rolls he was a veritable blur along the top of the Hidden Leaf.

    'Once I'm done with this I should put in some time at the target range.' Arashi thought to himself as he landed with total silence onto the rooftop of the Hokage's office building. He then stopped and let the morning breeze cool his heated skin. He loved being in this village and he loved serving it with all his heart, and life. He then took a spinning leap off the building and landed with a small stirring of dust under his feet on the ground in front of the double doors into the edifice he was previously standing on. He proceeded down the still quiet street and to the nearest food vendor he could find, and of course came across Ichiraku Ramen. He ordered a single order, something that caught the owner off guard, he was used to having ninja like him order five bowls in one sitting and still be ready for more. He paid his bill after finishing his bowl and then headed off to the target range.

    It wasn't long before Arashi was throwing kunai, shuriken, senbon, whatever ninja tools he had at his disposal at the many targets around him, nailing them all at head and chest level, and every time hitting a spot correlating to a lethal shot to an opponent. "Sometimes I amaze even myself, then again stationary targets are hardly good ones to practice on. "Let's see if I can change that." he added and then he wove a swift series of handsigns. "Submerged Vision Jutsu." he called out and instantly he found himself surrounded by multitudes of enemy shinobi.

    The swarm lunged at Arashi, but he was faster, the first dozen fell to a swirling cloud of shuriken, the next direct and effective strikes to the chest, the remainder taken out by a series of lightning strikes that rendered them into smoking husks. As soon as they had appeared they had vanished, Arashi opening his eyes on the clean field around him. It had all been a genjutsu he'd developed for training purposes, again moving targets made for better training. He'd made it with his natural capabilities in mind, never giving himself any extra bonus, he knew how many he could take on at once having dealt with multiple opponents when dealing with bandit raids and rouge ninja attacks on the outskirts. He even tried given himself the disadvantage of basing his illusion based enemies off of his strongest opponents, but over the years he hadn't gone up against anything more than B-ranked upstarts. He never had the luck of Kakashi Hatake or even his students like Sakura Haruno, Naruto Uzumaki, or even the now rouge Sasuke Uchiha, who even in their genin years had faced S-ranks high priority targets like Zabuza Momichi and Orochimaru. "Some kids get all the luck." Arashi said as he continued down this train of thought.

    Arashi had been born to two jounin from two separate villages, Tatsu Tsukigami a jounin from Kumogakure, the other Fushicho Hasegawa from Konoha, both met half way into the Third Great Ninja War. Though fighting to the death on a regular basis they ended up encountering each other as they both dragged themselves over to a nearby pond to get something to drink. Fushicho recovered faster thought still tired she could have slain him, but the two just could not kill each other, though Fushicho did knock him out soon after he started hitting on him, dragging him back to the village as a prisoner of war. This was one prisoner, however, that never did quite make it back. Arashi was proof that there are some things t

    "I've been fine. Missions have me flying all over different countries. Are you ready?"

    ?Of course, lets go?

    Kohaku said as she grabbed her pack and exited her apartment. Making it out onto the street she fell into step with Ken and the two chuunin chatted as they made their way to Suna?s main gate. She was sorry to hear that Ken was having issues with his clan. She didn?t really know much about the Hiroshi clan, except it was big on tradition. She never knew what position and standing the Hiroshi clan held within the village but she had a feeling it was high compared to a lot of other clans. Conversation soon turned to the mission and Ken was quick to voice his opinion

    "I know we are trying to build our village back up and that alliances are essential to the process, but we are being, basically, guided by a leaf-nin who probably thinks he's better than us. Don't the elders realize that this is making us look weak to them?"

    A thoughtful look crossed the kunoichi's face as she pondered his words. It was obvious Ken did not approve of this approach. She wasn?t too hot on the idea either but in this case certain formalities and regulations had to be adhered too. No matter how much one disagreed with them. A soft sigh left her lips

    ?I can understand your frustration but think of it this way, the leaf escort is probably just as upset for being sent all the way here. And besides, the elders could not have sanctioned this without Lord Kazekage?s approval. It?s a pain but try not to let it get to you, hmm??

    She said calmly, shooting him a supportive look before gazing back at the road that lead out of the village. They were heading out to meet the escort and the caravan of participants that would be travelling to Konoha.

    ~~~
    They soon arrived at the designated spot, an oasis just outside of the village boundary. The leaf ninja acknowledged their arrival with a nod, but by he looks of things he wasn?t a fan of the climate in the wind country. His all black attire gave him a serious but also slightly mysterious look about him. Behind him stood the numerous sand village genin who they had been assigned to supervise.
    "I am Osamu."
    The leaf nin said as he hopped off the rock he had been standing on. He instructed the two sand nin to follow him, bringing them before the caravan of students. He explained their mission once again as the caravan began to move off once again.
    "We believe?That outside forces might not want to give these Genin a chance in order to ensure that the villages they come from do not rise in power. As you can see, they are mostly made up of Genin from the Land of the Wind."
    A stern look flashed across Kohaku?s face as she heard this. She was clearly unimpressed by what Osamu had said. What right did anyone have to stop these genin from pursuing their shinobi birth-right? As tempting as it was to let her feelings be known, she bit her tongue as Osamu gave them further instructions. As Ken was sent to scout further ahead, Kohaku started to round up the genin and took their names, checking that everyone was present and accounted for. If all went smoothly it would take no more than three days to get to Konoha. Sparing a glance at Osamu, she hoped that his assumptions about outside forces remained just that.
    Osamu O
    -Land of Wind
    After Ken reported back that everything was alright ahead, the caravan began moving. The shinobi had no part in the functions of the caravan as the entire body was like a small village. Osamu and the Sand Nin had the right to order an action if it was best for the caravan, but other than that, there was nothing to be done except scout for potential dangers. Osamu had summoned multiple large lobsters that formed a barrier around the caravan as they moved.
    The three shinobi, under Osamu's suggestion, had taken the rear and walked together. Ken's dislike of the Leaf-nin remained, but as expected by a ninja of his rank, he conversed amicably with Osamu.
    "I know of your clan, Ken-San." Osamu said as he continued to wipe sweat from his face. He still could not get how the Sand-Nin seemed undisturbed by the blistering heat. Maybe it was just him.
    Ken raised an eyebrow at this declaration. "Really?" He asked.
    "Indeed. The Hiroshi Clan, famous for their Ice Puppet Technique."
    Ken bowed his head and laughed. "Indeed. I know of the O Clan as well, and their deadly sweating technique."
    They both laughed at the joke. Ahead in the caravan, the Chunin would see the Genin practicing their techniques. Of course, they were clumsy and slow, but it made Osamu admire the fact that he was doing something to help them by getting them to the Chunin Exams. He was making a difference. The topic of conversation then turned to the state of the Ninja world. Osamu knew it was a touchy subject, so he did not ask Ken, but Kohaku.
    "Kohaku-chan, how has the workload been for your village?" Ken tensed up and Kohaku would see that he was angered by the audacity of the Leaf-Nin.
    Far behind the Caravan and the Chunin, two figures, dressed in brown cloaks were following. One spoke.
    "This is too far back. I can barely see them."
    Then the other.
    "No, it isn't, any closer and we would be detected."
    "I see no reason why we can't just take them now. The closer they get to the border of the Land of Fire, the harder it will be."
    "We will wait until the time is right. Now hush."
    He had ordered Arashi Tsukigami here and the young Jonin stood before him. Sandaime nodded before he began.
    "Arashi, you have grown well into a great young ninja." It was true. Jonin at age 17, the boy was what villages trained their shinobi to become: All around strong ninjas who were eager to serve their country.
    "I have a mission for you. As you know, the Land of Snow prides itself on having advanced technology. One of their pride achievements is the airship ambition and the chief engineer of that project has been targeted by rogue ninja. They think that the engineer is to be taken out of the country an have the airship and other technological secrets extracted from him. This will, no doubt, endanger the country security if those secrets are revealed. I want you to go there and protect the Chief Engineer until he finishes the project. Then report back. We have selected a squad of ANBU to accompany you. We have arranged a boat to take you to the Land of Snow."
    Sandaime waved his hand. "Good luck, I have full confidence in you."
    "Thank you Sandaime, however I feel it would be foolish of me not to ask exactly where these rogue ninja came from, or if their just another band of ragtag soldiers. If I know more about them before heading out I can have a plan formulated by the time I get there." Arashi said bowing to the aged individual before him. "Unless of course I am going to be debriefed more in depth while in transit." he added calmly. "In which case I should probably stop wasting precious time and get moving." he added with a slight smirk.
    Truthfully Arashi already figured this mission would go like so many had before it, a small incursion of disorganized ninja from nowhere that would be stomped out like a bunch of ants. But then again this was Yukigakure he was heading to, he hadn't had as much experience that far away from the village, who knew, maybe this time he might actually come back with a major injury, that would be something. Hopefully whatever information he was going to get either from Sandaime or his future ANBU teammates would help limit the chances of that however.
    Sandaime smiled and nodded. "Recently, the Land of Snow has been experiencing a small civil war. A rebellion of sorts that seeks to take over the country. I have been assured that they are a bit more than a ragtag band of ninjas, which is why I'm sending you with ANBU black ops. However, you are not to interfere in the war effort because that is for the country to handle. We can not delve into government affairs."
    He paused. "If there are no other questions, I'm sure the ANBU squad can brief you on any other details you need clarification on. As you can probably decipher, this is a time sensitive topic."
    "Understood Sandaime." Arashi said and without any further word departed the Hokage's office rushing back to his home to get what supplies he'd need for his mission, including a set of much warmer clothes, Yukigakure wasn't called that for nothing.
    "Let's see, senbon, shuriken, dad's scroll, anything missing?" he said as he poured over his equipment. "Rations, ink, paper, doesn't seem as though there's anything missing, emergency first aid kit. Nope all set." Arashi said as he made sure everything was as compressed as he could get it into his travel pack, he needed to be light on his feet regardless what he was carrying. After he was certain he was all set he went over to see his mother and father before he left, giving them a brief explanation of his duties.
    "Just make sure those Yukinin don't send you home too beaten up, what would I tell your grandfather back in Kumogakure?" his father inquired thumping his son's shoulder. "Make us proud son." he added, and with that Arashi headed straight for where he'd be meeting up with the ANBU team he was going with, the docks up on the North Coast in the border region of Konoha and Kumogakure.
    "Let's see if we can't get there a little faster." Arashi said, he then whipped his scroll open and placed his palm on it. "Grand Eagle Summoning Jutsu." he called out, and almost immediately a massive eagle appeared and Arashi clambered onto it's back. "Kon'nichiwa Washi-sama." he said delightedly.
    "You again kid? Hasn't your father taught you not to disrupt a bird during a meal?" the large eagle inquired.
    "He has, he also informed me that the best way to make up for doing so is to provide said bird with a large fish, which I will buy for you once we reach the northern coast." Arashi added with a grin. "Now let's get going.
    "One eagle express transit to the northern coast coming up" the bird said and burst up into the air with one flap of it's enormous wings. "And you'd better make good on that promise." he added he he rushed as fast as the wind to the north.
    Once all the genin were accounted for and the road ahead deemed clear by Ken, the caravan started to move off. The three shinobi took the rear, while Osamu summoned giant lobsters to flank the sides and front. As they walked, Ken conversed with Osamu, but Kohaku could tell he was still far from happy being in the leaf ninja?s presence. She watched with mild amusement as some of the genin in front decided it would be a good plan to review their jutsu while on the road, practicing and memorising the hand-signs or talking to their team-mates about strategies and tactics.
    Ken and Osamu laughed as they started cracking jokes but suddenly Kohaku tensed up and her eyes narrowed. Not because of the quality of Ken?s joke, but because she was sure that she sensed the presence of something, or rather someone down the road a ways behind them. Among the sand shinobi ranks Kohaku was known for being a natural genjutsu type. Even though she was not a full on sensory type her senses were still rather sharp due to the amount of focus illusionary techniques demanded. One of her old academy-mates once made the comment that her natural affinity with genjutsu was starting to screw with her brain and he almost earned a butt kicking right across the village for his trouble. Even so, it looked as if Osamu?s suspicions about outside interference were justified. She didn?t know how many, or the level of their chakra, but there were definitely being followed. She heard Osamu?s question but didn?t think it was the right time to discuss the village economy
    ?I think we are being followed. Don?t react. I don?t think they are aware I?ve detected their presence?
    She said quietly, her eyes still looking straight ahead. She paused, giving her male companions a moment to contemplate her words.
    ?It?s too risky to confront them head on with all these genin here, we don?t know their number or skill level and we don?t want to start a panic. I suggest we keep moving, set a trap and when they make a move we will be ready for them?
    The Leaf-nin's eyes narrowed on the kunoichi. His question had been ignored and at first he thought she was trying to change the subject, but, he reconsidered, nothing about Kohaku had led him to believe that she would lie about something as serious as the genin's protection. He was happy his cloak his his entire body because his hands twitched a bit at the news. He was a Chunin and had been on his fair share of missions, however, as of right now, he did not know how to fight and protect the genin. But he would have to learn quick.
    He tried to increase his senses and detect what Kohaku had uncovered, but he had no luck. "I'm not sensing anything, Kohaku-chan. Maybe it was just a strong gust."
    Ken's eyes shot to Osamu. "Hey, I may not detect them either, but that does not mean that Kohaku's senses aren't better than ours." Osamu was taken aback and opened his mouth to say something, but couldn't find the words.
    A couple of minutes passed before Osamu spoke again. "Kohaku-chan, what kind of trap to you propose?"
    ANBU Squad Captain "Kenta"
    -Northern Shore
    His mask was white and with yellow whisker stripes. He looked up to the sky to see the bird that carried Arashi Tsukigami. As the bird landed on the shore and its gust blew the vanilla colored cloak of the Captain, the boatman called out to "Kenta".
    "Are you guys ready to go now?" He was nervous about the arrival of the ANBU members and now a Jonin. The boatman wanted to leave and get away from them. "Kenta" could read that much in the man's voice and gave him the go ahead to start the boat ride. When Arashi stepped onto the boat, "Kenta" stepped forward to greet him.
    "Arashi, I am Kenta. We are under orders to aide you in any way that will help you complete your objective. The boat ride, Mr. Asumari assured us, will not take long. A couple of hours at most. We have been alerted that as soon as we make landfall, we could potentially be under attack. What are your orders, sir?"
    "My orders are to protect the chief engineer until he's finished with his project, then report back to the village. I am not to interfere whatsoever with the current political situation in the area. Other than that I'm hoping you might have further details on what I may need to know." Arashi said. "As to the possible threat of an immediate attack, might I suggest some duplicates on deck until such time as we observe our opponent's actions. Possible back ups ready should they see through the first ones, that should give me plenty of time to supply a strong enough genjutsu to capture them, better to do that and turn them over than kill them, that and we can find out exactly what it is they're planning." Arashi added. "Any other ideas before we get there, Kenta?" he added as he had already begun to start flexing his chakra levels, preparing himself for whatever lay ahead.
    ANBU Squad Captain "Kenta"
    -The Sea
    They had begun sailing as soon as the Sea Captain, but since he was being impatient, they got going in no time. "Kenta" had created the duplicates and some of his team had dispersed in with the clones while the rest were below with Kenta, preparing missiles and security bags, in case they had to abandon ship. "Kenta" did not like sailing, it made him feel uncomfortable, especially with the lack of information about the place they were heading.
    He approached Arashi. "Everything has been completed in accordance with you plans."
    -----
    The night came. And the storm rode with it.
    The ship was rocking back and forth, but the ANBU members handled it with their characteristic passive attentiveness, despite the fact that everyone on board was thinking the same thing: That this storm was not of natural making. Before the sun had gone, there had been no warning or sense of a storm, yet here one was and it was absurdly violent and dark.
    Arashi realized that this storm wasn't exactly as normal as it may have otherwise seemed to appear, he could also sense the discomfort of ANBU members with him, even beneath their masks, but nerves would not help them if this storm proved anything more than a simple freak weather pattern.
    "You know my dad used to tell me about things like this, I mean he is from Kumogakure, Raikage has to count for something. Even if this storm is a ploy by them we should be fine, no matter what tricks they may pull. I'd suggest though if we have any water, air or lightning element specialists they be ready to take immediate action, a technique that can call up a storm would take a lot of water, air, and lightning element styles. We'd need the same to counter such users." Arashi said doing his best to ease the tension of the crew. "There's no point letting our nerves get the better of us, first phase of combat is who can trip up who. Let's show them that it'll take more than a bit of inclement weather to dishearten us Konoha-nin." he added grinning.
    Arashi may have been talking a big game, but he also realized if there were enough ninja out there to call up something this big, they'd be in for a tough one. It took several well trained ninja to pull something like this off, though if these were elite ninja it could even be as few as five or so. Either way they'd be in trouble if they proved to be any more effective than this conjuration.
    Kenta nodded at the jonin's advice and waved a hand, instantly summoning three of his squad members. "You three, be on alert for activity through the night. I want to know of any changes in the atmosphere." As quickly as they appeared, the ninja disappeared and Kenta was once again alone with Arashi. Behind his mask, Kenta was thinking about how the upcoming mission would be changed if their enemies were capable of summoning storms. It was a simple jutsu, but required a lot of chakra. There were rumors, albeit some coming from questionable sources, that the country had been developing chakra powered armor.
    "Arashi, if our adversaries are capable of summoning storms of this size, we have to assume that we will not be able to land to shore. What do you propose as an alternative?"
    Arashi contemplated their options, if they couldn't get to shore they'd be in deep water, both figuratively and literally, either possibility not very pleasant to think about.
    "If they try and stop us from reaching the shore we won't have much choice but to take immediate counter-measures no matter the violent nature they may take. However if they cause significant enough damage to the ship we're going to have to take alternative travel to get there, I could call up a bunch of eagles, they could fly right over the storm, but that would be draining so we'd need to remain in hiding elsewhere so I could recuperate." Arashi said his brow furrowed in concentration.
    "Aside from that if we can't go above we'd be forced below. If we can do neither we'd need to call in help, Kumogakure isn't too far away and my father is still respected there, I may be able to pull some strings there to call up reinforcements." Arashi added looking into the narrow eye slots of his comrade's mask. "What do you think?" he asked the puzzling ANBU before him.
    The storm increased in the distance and the lightning strikes were coming closer to their path. Kenta gave it a troubled look behind his mask. He turned back to Arashi. "I think we would be better off going below, going higher would only increase our vulnerability to lightning. I consider-"
    He was cut off as a lightning strike hit the deck, multiple actually, but no fire erupted from the impacts, only massive ghastly holes. If there had been anymore doubts about the nature of the storm, there were none left. Normal lightning strikes did not leave holes.
    Kenta brought his radio to his mask. "Abandon the ship, we will meet at rendezvous point 7 by morning." The ANBU squad disappeared from the ship quickly, leaving Kenta and Arashi only to see what emerged from the holes in the ship. It was an armored man with red hair. Kenta quickly noted that the armor was probably the chakra armor that Kumogakure was suspected to have under development.
    He drew a kunai from his belt to prepare for the onslaught, as several more figures rose from the holes in the ship.
