    Welcome to the Review Challenge!

This was suggested in the [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=13466735&page=1]board improvements discussion[/link], and after some tinkering, it's ready to begin. So, it's time to start supporting each other as writers and recommending stories to other readers! Let the games begin.

Ideally, you, the reader, would review one story in each category every week, posting the reviews in this thread. Of course, everyone has other obligations, so if you can only make a couple of categories in a given week, that's okay too. Just don't review more than one story in a category in a given week - save the extra one you want to review for the next week! ;) So, here are the categories:

[blockquote]1) Read and review a story at [link=http://fanfic.theforce.net]TFN's Fan Fiction Archive[/link].

    2) Read and review a story from an author whose work you haven't read before.

    3) Read and review a story that is locked on the Classic Fan Fiction board.

    4) Read and review a story from someone who has reviewed you.

    5) Read and review a story from one of your favorite authors.

    6) Read and review a story that's outside of your normal reading habit, whether it's an era, genre, or about characters which you don't normally read.

    7) Read and review a story that may not fit one of the above, but which you'd just like to review anyway.[/blockquote]

Provide links to stories when you can, but at the very least, please tell us what board they're on, as that'll make it a lot easier to find them! It's also a good idea to tell the authors of these stories when you've reviewed them, so they can stop by this thread and see what you've said about their stories. These reviews can be however long or brief they need to be, and they don't have to be very in-depth. This is what you'd tell someone when you're telling them to read a story. Again, you don't have to review a story in each category every week, but it's a lot of fun to try.

All right, who's up for the challenge? :)

    [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=13488881&replies=32]Naboo Rain - A/P - Clone Wars[/link] by Reihla

It's richly worded without suffering from pomposity, full of lovely moments that make this story sing. As I am at a lost for words, I'll let this wonderfull story speak for itself in a couple of selected passages...

In Anakin?s experience, love was not a comfortable emotion. Rather, it was a passionate driving force that didn?t always fit neatly into a box. It was single-minded loyalty marked by a willingness to sacrifice. Mostly, though, it was about loss and the fear of losing. The emotions he now sensed coming from Obi-Wan were all that and more. The confusion and frustration he recognized. They were old friends. This time, however, a new feeling flooded in alongside them. Fear. Real fear that Anakin would be lost to him.

    And here:

Most recently, it had been Dormé who had received Anakin?s coded transmission telling them he was soon to arrive on Naboo. From the moment Dormé handed her lady the message all other matters were relegated to the realm of insignificance. Everything, that is, except the critical task of choosing the right hairstyle and an appropriate gown.

Hmm, maybe I should participate, since I started the thread... :p

    1) The story I'd like to share from the archive is Mcily_Nochi's [link=http://fanfic.theforce.net/fanfic.asp?action=view&ID=1105]Breaking Through the Silence[/link]. It's a NJO AU story centering on Anakin Solo and Tahiri Veila after Anakin rescues Tahiri in Conquest, except that he was too late to save her from the Shapers. Anakin's quest to redeem Tahiri is chilling, and Mcily makes use of some unusual techniques and tells the story in a very powerful way.

    2) Strangely, I've managed never to take a look at the work of Jane Jinn and Mistress_Renata, but [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=13446302&page=1]Invisible Enemy[/link] is well worth the read. It features possibly the most famous original character ever created here at the JC, Healer An-Paj, in action with his family. It's looking like it's going to be a great read - and it's especially enjoyable for me, as I'd not yet had an opportunity to read An-Paj written by his creator! ;)

    3) Well, I went into the classic board and picked a page randomly, then grabbed a title that looked interesting. I pulled up [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=4442660&replies=9]Crimson - The Emperor's Elite Guard[/link] by _Derisa_Ollamhin_. Unfortunately the story is unfinished, but maybe this'll get her to jump start that... ;) Anyway, it's about some OCs who are really delightful, and one of them is recruited to work for the Chancellor. It was really looking to be good, so I hope she decides to continue it... :p

    4) Well, since this is the first week... ;)

    5) From one of my favorite authors, Sache8, I give you [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=10932107&page=1]Dance With the Stars[/link]. It's a story that follows TPM almost to the letter, except that it centers on handmaiden and decoy Sabé. As someone who wasn't overly impressed with the film in question, I have to say that this is a delightful interpretation of things from behind the scenes, so to speak. It's slightly AU, mostly in that Padmé's family in that story was created before AotC, and ties in with another series, but the story stands alone quite nicely. The author's style is melodic throughout, and Sabé's journey of saving herself from deeply-rooted habits of pettiness and childishness neatly parallel Amidala's journey to save her planet from the greed of the Trade Federation.

    6) I'll admit, I hate the Gungans with a passion. But something about Seldes_Katne's [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=13399295&replies=2]No Good Deed[/link] is remarkable and definitely worthy of readers. She combines an intensive amount of research with a complete immersion in the Gungan society that really turned my view of the Gungans upside-down. They're presented as intelligent creatures on par with their human co-inhabitors, and the story is a very insightful look at TPM.

    7) And now for a bonus review: I usually avoid song fics like the plague, but when Qwi_Xux posts something, I read. This one has been up for a few months, but [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=11948066&replies=14]My Immortal[/link] is well worth a read and reread. It's a beautiful and haunting vignette on what it was like for Leia to lose her son - definitely a tearjerker! Bring a box of tissues to this one.

Whew! Glad to have that done for the week. ;)

    1) Read and review a story at TFN's Fan Fiction Archive.
I would like to recommend that everyone read "He Made my bed" by Gabri_Jade and LadyPadme. The first vignette, from Mara's point of view is a nice look at the nature of Luke Skywalker, the development of their courtship and friendship. The second one about our favorite nerf-herder and his lady, is hilarious. It is the most in-character vignette of Han and Leia that I have seen in a long time and captures their relationship around the time of the Empire Strikes Back perfectly.

    2) Read and review a story from an author whose work you haven't read before.
The Journal of Zavra Phelar, Jedi Padawan.

I was intrigued by the title, as well as the concept, so decided to give it a try. What I found was that ViariSkywalker captures the mind of a Padawan very well--there is an element of Jedi wisdom, but simple adolescent reality that is mixed very well. She adds in the lore of the jedi, especially prophecies of the Son of Suns, very well.

    3) Read and review a story that is locked on the Classic Fan Fiction board.

    Unbroken Vows.

I know I don't usually condone, read, or like mush, but I took a chance on this one (even if it started out on the Skywalkers' honeymoon!) and it was enjoyable. The dialogue flowed smoothly, appropriately, the plot was captivating, and the original characters believable.

    4) Read and review a story from someone who has reviewed you.

    JaneJinn's Invisible Enemy.

An-Paj, everyone's favorite healer, gets assigned to a new planet with his wives. That was enough for me to get hooked on the story in the first place. Then, I started reading it and found myself checking every 5 minutes to see if there was any more wonderful writing on the way. Jane's sense of humor and excellent writing, as well as her 'bedside manner' make this a wonderful read, even if it's not done yet!

    5) Read and review a story from one of your favorite authors.

Qui-Xux's A Day in the Life of Anakin Skywalker.

    Hilarious. Just read it!

    6) Read and review a story that's outside of your normal reading habit, whether it's an era, genre, or about characters which you don't normally read.

See #5, I'm very guarded about reading humor.

    7) Read and review a story that may not fit one of the above, but which you'd just like to review anyway.

I'll get back on this one.

I'm very glad this is a weekly thing, because there are far more stories I want to review than space to review them. I've already got my picks for next week lined up. :D

    1. Archive Story

For my first pick I went with Seldes_Katne's [link=http://fanfic.theforce.net/fanfic.asp?action=view&ID=282]Something of Value[/link]. Taking place about 4 months after TPM, the story follows Captain Panaka and Captain Tarpals as they deal with some nasty smugglers on Naboo. If you like Gungans, read this story. If you don't like Gungans, read this story. You will come out of it with a new appreciation for Gungan culture as Seldes writes it. Species issues aside, it's a wonderful action/drama piece.

    2. Author Whose Work I Haven't Read

For this one I went poking around the Before The Saga board and was very pleased to find [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=13443744&replies=17]The Cost of Honor[/link] by Ty-gon Jinn. Think early Naboo, a young queen, and the institution of handmaidens. Then throw in well-written prose, engaging characters, and tension that's present from the very first post. This is a work-in-progress that I'll definitely be following.

    3. Locked on the Classic Board

This one (for this week at least) was a no-brainer: Sache8's [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=10065766]To Take Wing[/link] deserves far more attention than it got when it went up in January. Just one post, it deals with many firsts for Anakin--the beginning of his relationship with Watto, his first meeting (and confrontation) with Sebulba, and his very first time piloting a pod. The difference between feelings of slavery and freedom are touching, and the story just bubbles over with life. Go read it. You'll be glad you did.

    4. Someone Who's Reviewed Me

    Not applicable yet.

    5. One of My Favorite Authors

This is the category with the Neverending List. :D This week's favorite author is Sock_of_Darth_Vader, and the story is [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=12967830]Rebel Heart[/link]. Beginning pre-ANH and proceeding into the events of the OT, this in-progress story follows the adventures of an original character, Keitin, an Alderaanian girl, who becomes--surprise surprise--a Rebel. Canon characters appearing so far include Leia and Bail Organa. The journal style is easy to read, the story is appealing, and the author updates like clockwork every Wednesday.

    6. Outside Normal Reading Habits

Though I'm already reading a couple of stories that fit this category, I decided to save them for later and spice things up a bit by finding something new. I found something that is both outside my usual era--it's post-Saga--and outside my favorite characters, as I don't usually read about sentient lamp posts. Yes, you read that right. The overtired mind of Darth_Ludicrous produced [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=13249512]Memoirs of a Jedi Lamp Post[/link] back in the middle of September. The story, narrated by the aforementioned lamp post, is just one post long as I write this, but you'll be laughing too hard at its end to care. Plus he's promised to write more. ;) So go read, enjoy, and leave feedback.

    7. Anything Goes

This week, another humor piece, completed in September, gets the honors. [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=12403155]Twelve Past Victory[/link] by Lady_Moonbeam covers, as the title suggests, the twelve hours after the awards ceremony in ANH. It's told from Han's POV, and has to be one of the most enjoyable takes on him I've ever read. You will giggle at the beginning and guffaw at the end, and in between gasps of laughter you will enjoy some genuinely touching moments. Don't miss the drunken caterwauling in Hour 12. [face_laugh]

That's it for this week! (Oh, by the by, good idea, Mely. ;) )

    This is a great idea.

Okay, a story from someone who has reviewed me is [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=12413128]A Small Backwater Adventure with Han and Luke[/link] by Calandria. It's an intriguing mystery/horror story with a mysterious queen, a con artist who is more than he seems, and a dangerous pyschotic maniac.

A story from one of my favorite authors is [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=7981766]Coming Home[/link] by JediGaladriel. It's an AU where Anakin has stayed on the lightside, married Padme, and had the twins. Luke goes to the Jedi Temple as a baby, but when Padme and Leia die in a mysterious, deadly plague nine years later, Anakin goes back to the temple and is appointed Luke's master. It turns out the plague is biological terrorism that a hidden enemy is using and Anakin and Luke are assigned the task of finding out what's going on. There are plenty of touching moments as Anakin attempts to deal with his grief, bonds with his young son, and readjusts to life as a Jedi. Unfortunately, the story is not complete, but I'm hoping JG will finish it eventually.

A story just for fun is [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=11906862]Alliance[/link] by Arriss. It's another AU where the entire Skywalker family is part of the Rebellion against the Empire. There's lots of action and some sweet family moments, too.

    1) [link=http://fanfic.theforce.net/fanfic.asp?action=view&ID=459]Walk before you Run[/link] By, Jane Jinn

The story is about a very ambitious Jedi Initiate girl(Kiusan) who tends to jump ahead of her own abilities. When a Jedi Knight comes looking for an apprentice, she tries to impress him by trying things she hasn't been trained to do yet. Naturally she fumbles, and fears she has lost any interest he may have had in her. It's a really cute story, wonderfully told from Kiu's point of view which is innocent and often amusing. One of my favorite parts were the "demon" in red pajamas, and the puffercat. :-D

    2) [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=12432389&replies=18]You're Too Old For This[/link]

    By Jedi-2B

This is a vignette staring Han and Luke. While Luke is up with Ben, Han comes to talk to him and they discuss their children and old times. The dialogue is great, with Han giving Luke fatherly advice, and Luke warning Han about Anakin's close relationship with his 'best' friend. I love sweet family moment stories like this in the NJO times because it is so dark. And Han and Luke are a classic pair. :)

    3)[link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=5633118]Not an Option[/link]

    By, Mistress Renata

The story is about a Master and Padawan (Trett and Arwen-Dai) who go to a world to rescue their deposite monarchy. I found this story to be particularly interesting because of it's likeness to the Russian Revolution, and I love the story of Anastasia. The planet is suffering and decaying whil in a revolutionary war, and the Jedi are betrayed and Trett ends up in a prison. Arwen, with the aid of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn work to break him and the royal family out. The imagery and happenings in the prison are haunting, and shows that not everything works out the way you want it to.

    4) As Mely said....this is first week. ;)

    5) [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=6069717&page=1]And Then There Was Light[/link]

    By, Jade_Skywalker

This is an origin of the Jedi story. The telling is very imaginitive, showing a very dark galaxy before the Force was used for good. I love her interpretation of the Force, and how it helps "Jeredi" learn to use it to hopefully one day beat the slave master "Sireth".

    6) Now this one I had a hard time bringing myself to do, becuase I am so stubborn in my ways of reading and responding. I tend to stay in the EU, stories that take place after ROTJ, that way the OT doesn't change in any way. Usually. (And I am a huge Lukie fan, he got me interested in Star Wars in the first place.)

I've also never been a fan of Anakin\ Padme stories, simply becuase I know their relationship ends darkly. I dislike it even worse if it doesn't. (I'm strange, I know, but I guess I just don't like to change what happened in the movies. ;)) So I went with a kind of Anakin\Amidala story (It's more Anakin and the twins though...)that is an AU where they have a family. (I think I cheated though because it has a baby Lukie :-D)

The story is [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=11742743]While You Were Out[/link]

    By, DarthBreezy

Anakin Skywalker is spending a weekend with Leia while Padme is away, and she gets sick. Naturally he's concerned and just slightly over protective of her. While "Opee-Wan" chases Lukie. The dialogue is brilliant and hilarious, and Anakin's a very sweet father. I loved the small mush he had with Padme where he blows on her stomach. :-D

    7) For fun I did Jane Jinn and Mistress Renata's [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=13446302&replies=68] Invisible Enemy[/link]

The story is a medical thriller where the infamous Jedi Healer An-Paj moves to a Jedi Chapter House on Sarawaksala, and ends up fighting a deadly plague from spreading throughout the world. The original characters are great and well written, with excellent forshadowing and plot set up.
I love this story particularly because I am very intere

2.) In [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=13470765&replies=3]Mourning[/link], by Hananiah, located in the Saga Forum, Padmé must come to terms with the death of a bodyguard and friend. It is a beautifully written vignette that shows Padmé's struggle between maintaining an "in-control" image as a senator and her own more personal, human feelings.

7.)Located in the Beyond the Saga Forum, [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=12055709]Return to Naboo[/link], by Kristeh, is a post ROTJ AU in which Anakin, having survived ROTJ and now healed of his injuries, returns to Naboo with Luke, Leia and Han so the twins can learn about their mother. Their visit takes a harrowing turn when they encounter an enemy seeking vengeance. The story is suspenseful, and the author does an excellent job of conveying the emotions of Anakin and his children as all three struggle to put the past behind them in order to become a family.

Note: This story is continued in "The Lost Ones" and "Fear."

You're very welcome, Arriss! Here are my week's contributions:

    1. [link=http://fanfic.theforce.net/fanfic.asp?action=view&ID=997]The Betrayal[/link] by Gina. It is a haunting look at how Padme and Anakin's relationship falls apart at the time of Ep. III.

    4. [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=12329641]Kyp's Adventures in Babysitting[/link] by JediMasterKobe. It's a humorous tale of how Kyp has to babysit the ickle Solos while the family is on a vacation.

5.[link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=12251669]Not a Farmer[/link] by Sock of Darth Vader. It's a lovely young Luke vignette describing how Luke tries to tell his aunt and uncle about his future plans for his life.

6.[link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=12798974]There You'll Be[/link] by JM Bulldog. It's a beautifully written songfic describing how Tahiri is trying to move on after Anakin Solo's death.

    1. Archive Story

This week I went with an older story in the Archive: [link=http://fanfic.theforce.net/fanfic.asp?action=view&ID=125]Banquet Encounter[/link] by Sreya. The rating it's gotten over there is inexplicably low, as it's a first-rate little scene. A not-quite-Senator Leia attends a banquet with her father Bail Organa, and is surprised to meet a very formal Lord Vader. It's very well-written and any Star Wars fan can appreciate the foreshadowing, knowing what fourteen-year-old Leia doesn't.

    2. Author Whose Work I Haven't Read

Rhune seems to be fairly new to the boards, but she's certainly no stranger to writing. [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=13626874]Restless Spaces[/link] is a Han/Leia short taking place just after ROTJ. It's not quite the way I picture Han and Leia in my mind's eye, but the beauty of fanfic is the plethora of points-of-view. :) In the story, Leia is trying to come to grips with her past--and you'll be amazed at all that's running under the surface of this story while she gets there.

    3. Locked on the Classic Board

In the spirit of the orange-and-black, I went digging and found a tale that was written two years ago around this time for Halloween. [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=4565819]The Haunting of Anakin Skywalker[/link] by Obi-Fan warns that it's 'A Halloween Fic For Ani-Haters' in the title, and the Anakin of this AU short story certainly enjoys the Dark Side more than the AOTC Ani we know (and love, some of us. ;) ) But don't let your love of Anakin drive you away from this story, which is skilfully crafted and appropriately spooky.

    4. Someone Who's Reviewed Me

    Still not applicable.

    5. One of My Favorite Authors

But you're ALL my favorite authors! ;)

This week it's JediGaladriel, or FernWithy as she's known at the Archive and other places, and her story [link=http://fanfic.theforce.net/fanfic.asp?action=view&ID=626]The Smart One[/link]. The story takes off from the exchange in AOTC about Palo, Padmé's first crush/kiss: "...he went on to become an artist." "Maybe he was the smart one." The story details a meeting years later between Palo and Lord Vader.

    6. Outside Normal Reading Habits

I don't usually read NJO, but [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=13289433]Where It Counts[/link], an NJO AU by Sebulba2179, is worth stepping outside my reading habits. The story starts with the premise that Jacen Solo wants to hone his Jedi skills through podracing and takes off at dizzying speed from there. It's fast-paced and funny and I highly recommend it.

    7. Anything Goes

I'm going to stick with tradition (such as it is) and recommend a humor piece in here: this week, go read [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=8948327]Piggy and Slim[/link] by BlindMan. Piggy, better known as Porkins, has survived Yavin but not the history books, and started a career as a private detective. He enlists an unwilling sidekick, one Slim Sleazebaggano (son of you-know-who), to help solve his latest case. Hilarity ensues. :D

Well, now that I've finished with the newsletter (for this month, anyway,) time to do some private reviewing. Has anybody else noticed that the "Rant" thread has almost three times as many replies as this one? Talk about things that make you go "hmmm."

    1. There are so many good fics in the Archive that I hardly know how to choose just one. I'll pick a page at random ... ah! One of my favourites is [link=http://fanfic.theforce.net/fanfic.asp?action=view&ID=468]What is My Heritage?[/link] by Marnie. Young Qui-Gon is a bit of a misfit among the Jedi. As part of the Jedi traditions he is forced to find out where he really does belong.

    2. I'll have to come back to this one next time, I think.

    3. A locked story from the Classical Fan Fiction board -- as it's Halloween, there's really no contest here. [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=4460471]Things that Go Bump in the Night[/link] by Mistress_Renata. A wonderful "ghost" story where Rendell Trett and Arwen investigate a "haunted house".

    4. Someone who has reviewed me ... I go down the list and the first name is Melyanna. [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=9760738]First Impressions[/link] is a story that desperately needs to be continued! "It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, such as Prince Bail Organa, must be in want of a wife, such as Saché."

    5. One of my favourite authors is dianethx! I love her characterizations of Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan, and her original characters. Here's [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=10935143]Betrayal[/link]: Qui-Gon Jinn was dismissed from the Jedi Temple when the Senate decreed cost cutting measures. What the Jedi didn't know at the time was that the Senate was under the control of the Sith. It is now 10 years later and former Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn is accused of illegal activities. Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi and his Padawan are forced to investigate.

    6. Outside my normal reading habit. I don't usually read NJO fics, but [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=11018706]Many Happy Returns[/link] by Tahi is sheer delight. It's not only got appealing characterizations of Anakin Solo, Tahiri, Lando Calrissian, his wife, Tendra, and two more obscure canon characters called Qorl and Vehn, it also gives us some wonderful original characters as well, such as Rongo and Blue.

    7. Just for fun fic ... good heavens, is that the time? I'll come back to this one in the next round.

I've finally gotten around to reviewing. It was hard chosing among all the good fics on these boards.

Thanks also to JaneJinn. Wow, thanks. I had no idea!!!

    Here's the reviews....

    1) Read and review a story at TFN's Fan Fiction Archive.
    [link=http://fanfic.theforce.net/fanfic.asp?action=view&ID=1033] Hold Me[/link] by Tycalibur
I chose this one at random and was glad I did!
This story contains a missing scene from ?Return of the Jedi?. Leia Organa has just found out that Vader is her father and, after watching Luke leave the Ewok village, she must come to grips with that knowledge. The story begins with Leia telling Han to "Hold me" and ends with the destruction of the second DeathStar and her revelation "He's my brother."

Tycalibur did an excellent job of filling in the "blanks" with Leia's musings about her mother, Bail Organa's protection/lies about her parentage and her budding acceptance that Anakin was her father. The story flowed very smoothly between the past and the present, Padme's fate and Leia's worry about Luke's fate.

    Well worth reading!

    2) Read and review a story from an author whose work you haven't read before.
    [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=13505423&page=1] Twists of Fate [/link] by Jacen200015
Okay, I am a sucker for Qui/Obi/Xan stories. So I thought I'd give this one a try.

The initial post is quite long - describing the "classic" set-up fight between Obi-Wan and Bruck from JA1. However, since the post is written from Bruck's POV, it gives us a bit more background into just why Bruck is after Obi-Wan, a much more sympathic viewpoint than you normally get from a Bruck fic! I liked that he was jealous of all the attention that Yoda was giving Obi-Wan while the green troll was ignoring Bruck. And the addition of Aalto goading Bruck on was a welcome one.

A good job, quite enjoyable and I'll keep reading this.

    4) Read and review a story from someone who has reviewed you.
JaneJinn has reviewed me - oh thank you so much!. While I like everything that I've ever read by JaneJinn, my favorite remains [link=http://fanfic.theforce.net/fanfic.asp?action=view&ID=459]Walk before You Run [/link] in the Fan Fiction Archives.

This story is about an initiate that believes she wants to be a Jedi Padawan but is not sure she will be chosen. Yet, Kiusan Waurk tries hard to accomplish all that is requested of her, pushing herself beyond her capabilities. A quote She hadn't kept her mind on the here and now, hadn't been concentrating on the task at hand. She'd been leaping ahead again, trying to do more and understand more, and had ended up neglecting the actual assignment. really describes Kiu's enthusiasm and drive to want to do more than what is required. Knight Hachas Tlatilco has his own character "flaws", most notably his unusual choice of colored outfits - purple cloak among them - no beige for this one! His red pajamas in one scene had me laughing out loud.

I really loved the OCs in this fic. They had personality and a sweetness about them that is hard to find in most stories. Thoroughly enjoyable!

    5) Read and review a story from one of your favorite authors.
I've combined 3 and 5 since this story is also locked on the Classics board!

I have a lot of authors whose work I love but my absolute favorite is Marnie. Her story, [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=9423016&start=9436747] Redemption [/link] is a superb example of her lyrical style of prose.
In this AU, Obi-Wan and Anakin travel back in time to assassinate Count Dooku before he can turn to the Dark and bring about the destruction of so many Jedi at Geonosis. Unfortunately, Obi-Wan misses and shoots Padawan Qui-Gon Jinn instead.
The story is ingenious and devious. You have to read the whole thing to get the nuances of the intricate and brilliant plot. Plus the way she weaves language is just astounding - the words dance across the page.

A quote Adult. How shorn and naked his head had felt without the braid, that

    1) Read and review a story at TFN's Fan Fiction Archive.

Fern's [link=http://fanfic.theforce.net/fanfic.asp?action=view&ID=664]Family Portrait[/link]: Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Siri Tachi are called to impersonate a family on a world that hates Jedi. I love it. Everyone is perfectly in character and everything makes so much sense. My favourite thing is the sculptures Anakin made...one is of Padme with Shmi on the other side and the other was Obi-Wan with Maul on the other side.

    2) Read and review a story from an author whose work you haven't read before.

    JediLynx's [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=13625783&replies=41]Diary of an X-wing[/link]. It's priceless. :D 'Bored. Ignored. Outscored. Cut cord. I should be a poet.' [face_laugh]

    3) Read and review a story that is locked on the Classic Fan Fiction board.

Wild_Huntress's [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=8379160&page=1]Torn[/link]. I think this was one of the first fanfics I read here. I still think it's great. :D

    4) Read and review a story from someone who has reviewed you.

    No one has yet :D

    5) Read and review a story from one of your favorite authors.

Marnie's [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=9687810&replies=45]Coming Home[/link]. This is the story of how Qui-Gon came to be Dooku's apprentice. Everyone is in character, and she writes Dooku perfectly.

    6) Read and review a story that's outside of your normal reading habit, whether it's an era, genre, or about characters which you don't normally read.

The character of Mara Jade fasinates me, but I don't normally go looking for stories about her. So I did...and found obaona's
[link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=11536503&page=1]Late Night Musings[/link], Leia's thoughts on Mara and Luke's relationship. I like it a lot. And the last line is so sweet [face_love]

    7) Read and review a story that may not fit one of the above, but which you'd just like to review anyway.

    Shaindl's [link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=10992119&replies=13]The Things I Know Now[/link]. Favourite vignette ever. 'Nuff said. :D

[blockquote][link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=6505598&start=6507749] It Was Cold [/link], by SenatorLeiaOrgana - A somewhat humorous view of what Luke could have been thinking while upside down with that Wampa about to eat him! :p [/blockquote]

    4) Read and review a story from someone who has reviewed you.

[blockquote][link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=10682310&replies=5] The Last of the Fireworks[/link], by female_obi_wan - very lovely Qui/Obi story. :) I really liked Obi-Wan in this, and how after death things were . . . more malleable. :p Reality, that is. 8-} I really enjoyed the conversation the two of them have. :) [/blockquote]

    5) Read and review a story from one of your favorite authors.

And Jaina and Kyp, of course. ;) [/blockquote]

    7) Read and review a story that may not fit one of the above, but which you'd just like to review anyway.

[blockquote][link=http://boards.theforce.net/message.asp?topic=11342982&replies=23] Dark Mirage (series) [/link], by Happy_Hobbit_Padawan - A very interesting tale of Obi-Wan and Xan being dark and their plans for the Chosen One. I read the whole series in one night. Plenty of twists to be had, and a wonderful friendship (yes, friendship 8-} ) between the two Dark Jedi. :) Hey, I loved this so much I asked the author to co-write with me. ;) [/blockquote]
