Like Inty mentioned, due to copy/pasting the list from previous drafts, they were technically off the list. Discussion starts here. I was just trying to make sure that got caught before we get started

Would Cal Kestis get BD-1 on his back? Cause I think BD could do some good prep.

Health stims aren't a thing in the draft. Sorry. Maps maybe for prep. Of course prep means everyone knows the lay of the land

I'll volunteer to judge this time around, don't think I'll have the time to commit to playing.

No, I just meant stuff like his overcharge, hacking, mapping, and overall friendly presence.

Oh so they were just off the list but still draftable lol, was gonna say Jacen was def part of PG's Revan/Vader megadeal

As a result of prep they should be. Part of what's made guys like Kyle/Mara great preps is getting their kitchen sink of extra goodies-- bacta canisters etc. included.

Whether Cal gets BD the actual droid is a dif question lol

Unlocking this so that draft folks can discuss drafts other than the Jedi draft (which is still ongoing, check it out, it's the best one ever) without clogging that thread up.

So, I think based on the failed Storyline Comic Book draft, we should think about doing a standard / (almost) all-encompassing Non-Combat Star Wars Draft.

so, you would draft your characters based on needing to compete in things that are .. well, non-combat.

As we outlined in the other thread, there are numerous topics that spring to mind:

    • Politics
    • Farming
    • Ship Repair
    • Pod Racing
    • Ship Racing
    • Fleet Command
    • Junk Trading
    • Cantina Management
    • Nerf Herding
    • Interpretations
    • Rancor Raising
    • Smuggling
    • Buying and Selling from Jawas
    • Dealing with being around C3-P0 for three days straight

I have a few thoughts on how this could be executed

    Thought one:

Every round has a different prompt. Each GM gets to send their number of participants in based on the prompt (from one of the agreed upon categories). Judges would rank each submission from 1-10 (assuming 10 GMs). 10 points for finishing first down to one point for finishing tenth. After each prompt is done, most points wins.

    Thought two:

Every round, each GM gets to send in one character for each type of activity. But, they can only send each character in once for each kind of prompt. Use Palpatine for Politics in the first round because your opponent had Padme? Good luck next round when you have Palpatine running a Cantina. This would be a more typical draft, with each GM up against another GM, and the judges deciding individual battles.

    Thought Three:

Every round, each GM gets to send in numbers as a normal draft. In addition to randomizing the numbers, the commish also randomizes the assigned task for each number. So, when I call #7, we get Palpatine vs. Lando, and the task at hand is Cantina Management - sorry Sheev, this is a SLICE. When I call #2, we get C-3P0 vs. Maz Kanata in Pod Racing. So on and so forth. It's very random, and you lose a lot of control over your team - but that should make the arguments more fun.

    Thoughts?

I'm so impressed. Sign me up. Take my non-existent money, I'm sold. Might I add
    • Thievery (Commissioner would determine the target) (WHAT IF IT'S BABY YODA THOUGH)
    • Cooking
    • Impersonating a stormtrooper (or spying in general)
    • Some sort of best dressed/fashion/wardrobe
    I like 2 or 3 better than 1.

I’ve been working on a new game. It has got draft similarities so I thought I’d post it here and see what ya’ll think.

It’s a strategy war game simply called JCF Battlefront, and you’ll see why.

Basically there’s 8 factions with 8 players. 4 good and 4 evil. Each player is randomly assigned a faction and a Jedi/Sith General to lead it.

The location for the war, and the faction you’re going to face are revealed before you make your next choices, so you can actually plan a strategy instead of everything being random.

I’m thinking of doing a variety of different battles too, such as ground assault (just troops), ground war (larger battles with vehicles), starfigher assault, space war. Etc.

Now we introduce the strategy. There’ll also be a money system. Each player will have to pick their war commanders. The better commander the more expensive they are. So you can choose to pick one amazing commander worth 100 points, or two good commanders worth 50 points each.

The players will then assemble their troops. Let’s say they have 100 points to spend and each clone trooper for example is worth 1 point each. But then ARC troopers and clone commandos are worth more points. You’ll have to decide how many normal troopers are worth getting rid of to have higher skilled troopers in play. This will bring your numbers down but skill up. You will also visit the armoury to choose your weapons.

I’ve been putting a list together and the variety of generals, commanders and troopers is so large, that no game will ever be the same, and every opponent you face will be completely different and require vastly different arguments and strategies.

For the larger wars, you will then be able to buy vehicles and ships the same way as your troops. And instead of random Rebel pilots for example, you’ll be able to buy well known ones like Biggs and Hobbie.

    —————

    So to summarise:
    • War strategy game
    • Different types of battles, e.g. ground assault and starfighter assault
    • 8 factions randomly assigned to 8 players
    • Jedi / Sith General randomly assigned to each player
    • Choose your war commanders
    • Choose your troops / weapons
    • Choose your vehicles / starfighters
    • Face your opponent and argue how your faction will beat theirs
    • Winning faction will move on to the next round

There’s still a lot to work on, but this should give everyone a basic idea. Any questions or ideas?

Sounds super interesting, kinda combining the roster building of Daily Fantasy games + military strategy (it sounds way more like Galactic Battlegrounds than Battlefront if you ever played that) + traditional JC draft.

I guess my first question would be how is a winner determined-- still a selection of judges who pick who they think based on arguments? Def seems like it would start to bridge into RPG-esque territory and might require a gamemaster more than just a commish.

But damnit do NOT derail my Malakili podrace dreams!

Lmao Malakili will still race. I was thinking three judges and a host/game master. Judge the arguments and decide who’d win each war. It would take more effort to argue and judge than normal drafts as there’s just so much to consider, but the entire thing would probably only go for a month, as each players has their own seperate list to draft from. Although each round would require the winner to draft again depending on the new contender and location. So it could be a common game that gets more (or less) added to it depending on how the first few runs go.

I’d love to host the first time. Just need some help from someone setting up the two old republic factions, as my knowledge is limited there.

I like that explanation. I think the devil will be in the pricing details— making them fair across factions (Luke, for example— if we’re including Legends— should eat up a huge piece of budget vs. a standard price for “Heroes,” and Malakili in a pod should def cost 100 points) but also so that you’re not too in the weeds. Maybe instead of 1 point per clonetrooper, for example, it’s 5 points for a platoon. Might be a little easier for GMs and judges to start conceiving of “This guy is going in with 5 platoons of stormtroopers vs. 2 squads of specialists.”

Especially the first go, making it as simple as possible would prob help it catch on/evolve.

The platoon idea is really good actually. I’ll post an example of what I originally had for a single faction below just to show how I was doing the points system, then I can change it up. This is only for ground and starfighter assaults. Wars would use more like 1000 points, but I think we should just start with smaller battles to get a good idea how everything works.

There are some random character choices here, but they all have a purpose. You have to consider the faction you’re facing, the Jedi General you’ve been assigned, and the location you’re fighting in. Also some commanders would work well in ground assaults and some would work well in starfighter assaults. E.g. Padme would make a great commander on Naboo under Anakin’s leadership facing the CIS. You could then hire a squad of Naboo Royal Guards as they’d work well with her.

    Jedi General (randomly assigned):
    • Obi-Wan Kenobi
    • Anakin Skywalker
