You guys!! We are so excited about several aspects of the upgraded boards, but one of the best for FanFic is: TAGS! But wait, don't we already have tags? You may find yourself asking. What we have now at the start of each thread (here in Resource they are Discussion, Index, Characters, etc.) are prefixes. Tags are something new that will be inside threads that allow you to more specifically define what's in the thread. Back when we first got prefixes we called them tags because we didn't know there would be tags. We know this will probably create some confusion (it has for us!) but hopefully it won't last too long. **Please see the note at the bottom for more information on prefixes. We are now able to tag threads with characters, genre, length, 'ship, etc. and you will be able to filter by that tag. So if you want to find stories with Luke, you click on the Luke tag and you get all stories tagged with him. This will allow authors to make their stories easier to search for, and readers able to find the types of stories they want! This is something we've wanted for a long time and it's finally here. Below is a list of tags we’ve added/are adding. There is NO way we can add character tags for every character in Star Wars. We’ve tried to add all the major movie, TV, and Legends characters, as well as some other characters we think might be used the most/have been used most in the past. We know there are a lot of characters left out, but it’s just not feasible to have them all. There are also general character, genre, timeline, length, 'ship, and challenge tags. How to add tags New Thread: Below the body of your post (where you paste your story) you’ll see a box for tags. Just start typing and it will auto pop up with the tags that you can use. Spoiler: Click to see new thread tag placement Existing Thread: At the top left of your thread, under the title, you’ll see something that says "Tags: Add Tags” Click on “Add Tags” and a box will pop up. Start typing the tags you want and they’ll auto pop up with the tags that you can use. This is where you will see all the tags for the thread. Spoiler: Click for existing thread tag placement Searching for tags: The search function is not back up yet, but eventually you should be able to search by tags. To search by tags click the search bar on the right hand side. Then click "more". "Search by tags" is the last tab. It also shows the most used tags on the boards. You can also click on an existing tag and it will take you to all threads tagged with that tag. * Note- Currently, tags are not locked by forum location, so if you click a tag and another forum uses that tag, you’ll also see those threads. Example: TPM might be used in the Saga-In-Depth forum, so if you click TPM you’ll get threads from here and that forum as well. We’re looking into if tags can be locked by forum. Other information: Each thread can only have 10 tags It is recommended that you only put the major character tags so you have room for genre and timeline tags. We will not be adding individual OC tags. There are too many and it’s not fair. There is an OC tag. This thread will remain open for suggestions on tags. Please post your suggestions here and we’ll add in batches. We're sure there is someone or something obvious we've forgotten! If the suggestion is someone or something that is only used by one or two people it may not be added, especially if a general tag will work, but we will take this on a case by case basis. Example: Porkins - There aren’t that many stories where he is a major character, but there is a pilots tag you can use as well as a rebels tag. Additional Note: We now also have multi-prefix capability, though the tech people are still working on getting that fully operational. We'll be posting a discussion thread on this topic soon. We recommend not going to great lengths to edit your prefixes or to add multiple prefixes until after that thread is posted.
