Oh my!!! Is there a post coming up?

Shaindl?I can't wait to see your take on the early years of the Order - I'm sure it will be another wonderful ride. ?? Thanks! Sorry it has taken so long to get a new post up. It was being argumentative.

JadeSolo?I especially was drawn in by the description of the statue--mostly because I'm a classics geek who likes to stare at statues in museums for hours. The "Renaissance" part caught my eye, too. A term like that would lead one to expect larger-than-life and beyond-anything-you-could-have-ever-imagined artwork. Instead, Ben'al Houk has been forever immortalized as an ordinary man. Then again, he was about to get shipped off to Jedi storage Even so, the image carved into the stone is in complete contrast to the title of "Sith killer." ?? Ohh, I loved that.

obi ew?Loved the brief look at tiny Obi and Garen and can't wait to have the whole tragic story unfold. ?? I thought it would make for a brief transition and to throw some hints about the rest of the story.

Wookiee? Is going to be an excellent, albiet sad, story. Just the way we like it - heartwrenching, gut-twisting, pass the Kleenex please story ?? Or just the average Red story. ;)

PadawanKitara? The beginning had a magical, fairytale start to it. ?? Now it becomes one of Grim?s fairytales.

CrystalKenobi?and I think it will continue to be a wonderful story. I look forward to more. ??

    Ashes? Wow! ?? :)

Jinjur? With all due apologies to Gilbert and Sullivan: ?? LOL!

naw ibo? With writing like this you need to be published! It felt like a fairy tale. I'm totally drawn into the story and can't wait to find out more about Ben'al and his life's sacrifices. ?? [face_blush] Hope this first chapter on the past lives up to the expectations set by the prologue.

Calantha? The second part sounds like it parallels Obi-Wan and Halla in the Book of Paths - is the first part a reference to Obi-Wan and Anakin in canon? ?? The second part sounds similar but is very different from ?Paths?. The first part?isn?t all that different from Obi-Wan and Anakin.

    ca tron? *speechless* ?? Amazing! [face_shocked] ;)

Froggy? bungee cord ? check; reinforced froggy fingers for cliff clinging ? check; tissues ? check; ladder to get off of ceiling with ? check; earplugs for the screams of agony for readers who forget to tie both ends of their bungee cords ? check; lily pad to hide under ? check?.okay, i'm ready?now, what am i forgetting..... ?? That red is sitting on top of the cliff with a pair of scissors?it?s no fun when the readers are hanging on with bungee cords. [face_devil]

Reformed? Now that is the _best_ news I've heard all day. ?? Sorry about that?the posty took a little longer than planned.

Certain details kept wanting to change and things I thought were set in stone kept melting.

Thank you everyone for all the kind words. I hope this post lives up to the standards set by the first. [face_shocked]

    Whew!

    Chapter One

Gold and blue lights glittered about the Grand Ballroom as members of the Kuritiya Royal Symphony played. The soft sounds of Hobolian?s Eighty-ninth Symphony, Aurus Bodante, wafted through the chamber as royal personages and dignitaries mingled about the ornate tile floor that reflected the opulence of the moment.

Flowing gowns and expensive robes of office from all over the galaxy dotted the room as lobbyists and special interest groups plied them with flowery words and offers under the table.

The celebration was to mark the opening of the new Regional Governor?s manse in the heart of the Talx Sector. The elegant estate was settled on the outskirts of the Imperial District on the city moon of Bourmak.

Jival Serris, the Clak?dor VII born architect of the Talx Sector?s revitalization, had built the expansive new facilities to bring the authority of the distant seat of the Galactic Republic a little closer to the Rim worlds.

The Bith had chosen Bourmak as the base of the Governor?s jurisdiction because it was a miniature version of Coruscant. The celestial body revolved around a suritanium-rich world, a highly sought after ore used in interstellar ship hull plating. He had wanted to bring in the glory of the galactic core to the savage outer regions.

Other than the parks, the entire planet was urbanized except the Oscuro Valley on the edge of the Imperial District. It was the perfect place to build his governmental palace. Yet, no one wanted to disturb the land, he could not even hire local help, it all had to be brought in from off world.

The bright urban population that rivaled the diversity of Coruscant was haunted by legends of dark sorcerers who had once called the valley home four millennia earlier when Bourmak was just a small trade outpost on the edge of Xixian Way. The major trade route of the region was controlled by the Esix Federation, who had generously helped to fund Jival Serris? glorious Governor?s Mansion nestled behind the great domed Governor?s Hall, an elaborate, expensive construction that was a worthy competitor to the royal palaces of Alderaan.

As night fell and the moon glowed with artificial fire, the grand house and facilities came to life in a public display of Republic grandeur as Jival put his creations on exhibit and officially opened the offices for business.

Dignitaries from the galaxy over had converged to see the splendor of the Orisheem Valley, renamed for the previous Regional Governor whose term had been carried out in ancient row houses that doubled as offices far from the Imperial District in the office district of Suvval.

Jival?s secret desire to rival the power and wealth of Coruscant was unveiled in a rich celebration that even demanded the attention of Supreme Chancellor Tollis Ahrsgard. To witness the Bith?s grand creation, he high politician had ventured from the relative safety of the Core worlds, one of only a few that had been allowed in his eleven years in office.

Everywhere the tall Alderaani man walked, he was escorted by the menacing dark blue armored figures of the Senate Guard. Their force pikes at ready to take any thread down in an instant.

Yet, in a troubled galaxy where war and dark powers held great sway, he was also accompanied by a small contingent of five cloaked protectors at the insistence of the Jedi High Council.

Ahrsgard had been indignant, believing in the superiority of his personal bodyguard, but in the end, he reluctantly allowed the Jedi but only if they kept their distance and were not readily visible. He had often been known to publicly state that he believed Jedi to be magnets for their evil opposites, the Sith, that trouble came to them.

The tall, stately man stepped quickly over the reflective tile floor, placing a short distance ahead of his armored guard as he approached the pale skinned Bith.

Jival bowed his large head low in a sign of respect among his people. ?Your Excellency.?

With a wave of his hand, Ahrsgard commanded Jival to straighten. ?We had been co

 You weren't kidding! These aren't the Jedi we are used to! I like um! :D And Ben'al is a vast change from his ancestor. Can't picture Obi-Wan talking like that! :D

Visuals were brutally descriptive as always! I felt like I was right in the middle of the fight! Hum... I think I'm going to enjoy Ben'al! :)

The setup was amazing! All that glitter and pomp reduced to blood and death.

Drawing his weapon back in the style of his master, the padawan reached out with his free hand as if to guide to tip of the blade. ?I am better than you.? The first sentence reminds me of the typical AOTC Obi-Wan pose. The second is all Ben'al Houk

I can see where Obi-Wan got his attitude from, but he learned to control his arrogance. And thinking back to the statue, it sounds like Ben'al learns his lesson, too, and in a very unpleasant way :(

?I was just issued that!? the apprentice said offering a mournful look to his stained and torn cloak. [face_laugh] The minute I read "Lugaberian," I knew the cloak was a goner!

Definitely not the jedi of today. They were much more arrogant back then. But a they also seemed to be more comfortable with their place in society. (or maybe that was just Houk and his master)

It doesn't matter which time period you apply yourself to, you always manage to turn out something incredible. I love how the Jedi of this era are recognisable as Jedi, but also recognisably different in terms of behaviour and outlook from the ones we know. Fantastic story so far, Red!

Whoa whoa WOW! Amazing that even though everything is "futuristic" to us(space travel, advance technology)...it still somehow manages to really feel like it is set in the distant past.

That Ben'al does have an attitude, certainly different from his descendent. :)

I'm really excited about this story and seeing more of the Jedi and the GFFA of the past. I knew from when he was introduced in Paths that Houk was a fascinating character.

Not your local Jedi, that's for sure. I loved that Ben?al was so arrogant. He does need to be taken down a peg or two but I can understand his need for it. With a Sith/Jedi war brewing, they would need the best and the brightest to win.

Great job with the set-up. Are you going to show how the Jedi's attitudes changed after the Sith war or won't we get that far? Either way is good with me.

I really like the new (old?) world you are writing in and the totally different Jedi. you can see where the difference of having to fight for your life all the time and the complacency of 'knowing' that there are no more enemy and that you have 'won' really colors the attitudes.

    great job as always, Red!

Yup, I am still sick in the head because I managed to get this one out in only two days. Yikes! I might be setting a precedent. [face_shocked]

obi ew? Visuals were brutally descriptive as always! I felt like I was right in the middle of the fight! Hum... I think I'm going to enjoy Ben'al! ?? he he?I bet you are. ;)

JadeSolo? I can see where Obi-Wan got his attitude from, but he learned to control his arrogance. And thinking back to the statue, it sounds like Ben'al learns his lesson, too, and in a very unpleasant way ?? You are very right there.

PadawanKitara? they also seemed to be more comfortable with their place in society. (or maybe that was just Houk and his master) ?? Well, you get to meet another Jedi today. Let?s see how that colors your opinion.

Keeper of Swords? The dialogue, names and descriptions were awesome! ?? Thanks!

Shiandl? I love how the Jedi of this era are recognisable as Jedi, but also recognisably different in terms of behaviour and outlook from the ones we know. ?? :) It?s one of those things that I wish there was more official stuff out there from about this time period because I want?need?some direction. It is strange playing in a familiar but different sandbox.

Wookiee? One can totally picture this boy as a younger, brasher, more cocksure Obi ?? So knowing after a partial post! Wait until you get to see more of him in action.

naw ibo? I'm really excited about this story and seeing more of the Jedi and the GFFA of the past. I knew from when he was introduced in Paths that Houk was a fascinating character. ?? Really? He didn?t even have a backstory then. I didn?t know anything about him except his distant familial relations.

dianethx? Are you going to show how the Jedi's attitudes changed after the Sith war or won't we get that far? Either way is good with me. ?? We won?t get to the Sith Wars, this is a little before that. But the Jedi?s changing attitudes will definitely be explored.

Froggy? great job as always, Red! ?? Thanks!

ca tron? Well, now we know where Obi gets his defience from ?? He may have gotten a fraction of drop from Houk, but the ancient Jedi kept most of it to himself.

Thank you very much! I did a brief rework of the outline and I think it might be a little longer than 5 posts. I am not entirely sure but it might be closer to 10 posts (or more?this one action scene has developed a life of its own) for this first story. I hope you all are not disappointed. ;)

    Chapter Two

Moving like a ghost through the eerily silent Governor?s Hall, a blur of motion slipped among the shadows. The Force, her companion and guide, wrapped her in its calming energies, shielding her presence and beckoning her to follow its warm currents. The fading imprint of living fear marked the walls and structures of the government palace designed by Jival Serris. The touch of fear was a marker as real in her mind as the sense of smell. Its age not as diminished as when she first began the hunt. Soon her target would be in range.

Sensing the distant approach of a powerful Force signature, the young woman ducked behind a wide pillar. One in a colonnade that lined both sides of the glassed in skywalk that connected the bureaucratic structure and the secured hanger behind it with the Seruian marble façade that only added to the ultra extravagant appearance of the new structure.

The lithe form of Jedi apprentice Amare Kred?dha stole over the smooth midnight blue marble floor with a mirror sheen, to the safety of one of the tall pillars. Her steady gaze found that of a black cloaked figure that breezed quickly past, unaware of her presence. Her mind was clear, focused only on the danger of the moment and the need to remain hidden.

Marching confidently through the corridor toward the hanger, the tall man with silky black hair flowing over his dark robes entered the charred remains of security doors that had once attempted the seal off the hangar from intruders.

Amare?s breath caught as she shifted to peer around to pillar to the far end of the corridor. She did not need to see the face to know that was Lord Jathra himself, which meant that Kavara and the Three Furies were not far away. A chill raced through her.

There were only five Jedi and five of the galaxy?s worst enemies who had kill untold thousands were all together. Where was backup when they needed it?

She knew the situation had been bad, as was expected when the High Council had pulled her and her Master, Sollus, off the Hektite mediations. Yet, she had not imagined such a high profile function to become a slaughterhouse.

Pressing a delicate hand to the cool marble pillar, the reddish-brown of her billowing tunic sleeve slid back revealing the gold under tunic and a heavy gray wrist gauntlet. Her smoky gray hair was drawn up high on the back of her head and tied in place by a deep brown leather strap that matched her tabard.

The apprentice shared the distinctive markings of all Corellians born on the Wekyar Mining colony. The Coerzite rich atmosphere robbed the color from their hair and left their eyes pale lavender. There was also the belief that it Coerzite enhanced their senses but that was just conjecture.

Amare?s senses were fine tuned, her life spent in training of the Jedi ways. Her mind still when required, the Force her ally.

The warning came quickly, causing the Jedi to shift around the column seeking precarious safety as she spied another black shrouded figure appear in the doorway on the Governor?s Hall side. She silently snarled to herself knowing she was trapped as long as the figure remained to block her escape.

Her only alternative was to face Lord Jathra.

Catching sight of the gold broach that pinned the edges of the Dark Side user?s cloak, coldness filled her. She struggled against the mixed emotions that welled in her. Hate, rage, calmness and serenity battled for control. The piece of jewelry had belonged to Master Farin. How dare that monster wear it? A piece of her wanted to break free of her teachings and cut the Force witch, Sceadu, down. All Amare wanted was to see the unholy beast beg for the mercy that she had not offered Farin before brutally ending her life.

Relaxing herself and exhaling slowly, without cracking her shields, Amare pushed the dark thoughts from her mind. She was Jedi; she was above that. She would show mercy and end Sceadu?s miserable life. Not because of what she had done, but for what she was?an enemy of the Light.

In her heart, she knew t
