    They also mention later that they're having a bit of trouble settling for a location to start shooting. All-in-all it appears as though the producers felt they didn't have much to show so they decided to save it for another time.

    Not surprised, but dissapointed it didn't get a chance to redeem itself in a second season, as it did have a lot of potential, and that finale did show much improvement.

    Also Paramount didn't want to dillute the brand while trying to relaunch it with the last movie. I'd suspect they'll wait until a 3rd film to try and start a new series- unless it's a series not based on the new movies, but set in another era/timeline.
