I can't recall ever seeing a TV trailer for TFA. I may have seen the 2nd trailer on TV once - possibly twice. But really, the only times I remember seeing it was online.

I don't recall ever seeing a TV ad for it (something besides a trailer). Even if they didn't show many ads before the release I would have thought they'd start up a TV campaign after a month or so just to boost slowing ticket sales.

So was there any kind of TV campaign ? Did I just plain miss it ? Were there ads besides the trailer ? And I don't mean all of the other types of ads which were tied in with other types of products like Subway, Duracell, or HP. I mean just a typical ad for the movie.

 

TFA is like the story of this famous rapper, can't remember which one. So a guy who saw him in a club noticed that he was wearing dark sunglasses inside in a dark club. He goes up to one of the guy's posse and says, "Why would he wear sunglasses inside?! I can barely even see in here without them!" And the guy says back, "Yo, he don't gotta see who you are, you only gotta see who he is."

TFA didn't need advertising; advertising needed TFA.

 

Yes, you just plain missed it. There were a dozen or more TV ads released before the film's opening.

I'd say we are due for a cable TV premiere showing of TFA sometime this December, perhaps a week or two before TLJ comes out. Maybe even get another short bts reel during it.

Anybody else think so?

It's bound to happen at some point. And doing it any other time just wouldn't make sense. That is, unless they wait until the whole ST is over to start showing them on TV at a later time.

Why do people bother watching movies on TV broadcasts, unless they are stuck with that being their only way to watch something?

 

Sometimes it's fun to just experience something because it's on rather than because you choose to put it on.

 

If a Columbo I hadn't seen for a long time wasn't on right now, and the TV broadcasat of Return Of The Jedi, complete with all the original commercial breaks, was on instead, i'd be watching it. Pan & Scan and everything.

I believe tonight is the network television premiere of the The Force Awakens on TNT.

I'm on PST, so it just started for me.
