Gaming "That's rad!": The Yakuza Series

You're going to have quite the time doing the series 0 to 6 in order.

 

I hope so I've installed 0 and will start it later tonight.

Seriously though, I think you're going to love the Yakuza franchise. As I once pointed out in the besties thread, 0 even has its own JCC! It's a weird catfighting club, but I don't see how that's any different to the real JCC.

 

Yeah, I'm on chapter five now and the game is so ******* good.

 

I didn't actually get to start the game because I'm still at my parents' house. Once my AC is fixed, I can go home and start 0.

 

I got almost to the end of Zero but I kind of left it behind for shiny new games. I need to get back to it.

 

Don’t worry, I left it for Persona 5, the weebest of games.

 

Now you're reminding me that I also need to play Persona 5!

I know I know. I don't want a game as long as Persona 5 right now anyway when at night before bed I'm already going through Fire Emblem Three Houses, all the different routes. That's gonna be at least 200 hours when all is said and done. I can't handle a daytime game the size of Persona at the same time.

 

I don't know, man. Yakuza 0 isn't exactly bite sized, either. I haven't touched the main story in hours because REAL ESTATE.

 

Yakuza games expand depending on how into the minigames you get. I've never been that hooked by them and disliked the major one for each character in Zero, but even if you just do main + sidequests, it's not that small a game.

If you get into the minigames? Your play time is going to go way up!

 

I'll be honest, I'm not a minigame person. So I think I'll be fine.

Ok gang, so tonight I finally go home after a week and a half at my parents' house due to my AC being out.

Which meaaaaans, YAKUZA 0 TIME!

 

Yakuza 7 announced, will have turn based combat.

 

The party-based stuff looks neat, but also that means they got, what, two games out of that massive Yakuza 6 engine overhaul? That's the power of being a series with **** off money that suddenly gets better sales overseas I guess.

 

I... don't like the idea of it being turn-based. These are action games, right? I mean I still haven't played anything beyond the Yakuza 6 demo, but still it seems like a weird decision...

BUT I am glad to hear they're continuing the series. And now I have to actually play some of them It was gonna be tonight, but then I remembered the last Chiefs pre-season game is tonight.

 

RGG Studio has always used "RPG" rather than "action game" to describe the series so I think for them this is a less outrageous move than it might seem to us. I could see this being an attempt to offset the difficulty so that more people can play, especially since party based gameplay is so mainstream in Japan. I'm not convinced it's the correct move, but they seem pretty receptive to switching back if this doesn't work out so, eh, experiment I guess.
