Probably Nevarro due to the cool lava landscape and those giant flying reptile things.

 

Whatever planet it was where Mando met Cara Dune. It just looks like such a nice chill place to take a break between adventures.

 

Sorgan. That's my choice as well. It was so nice that I'd have packed it all in and just done some basket weaving or something if I'd been Mando. Shortest SW tv series ever!

 

Arvala-7, because it's where we meet Baby Yoda and get to hear "I Have Spoken" for the first time

 

Day 74 - What was your favourite new location from The Mandalorian?

While not a new location, seeing Mos Eisley Spaceport after Jabba the Hutt is defeated and the Empire fell was intriguing. Not a new location but new time period for a known locations. It was a like a ghost town. Droids tending bar in the cantina. And there is a layer of unknown history / major events with the Stormtrooper helmets on pikes.

And it was all the better that I had zero idea the episode was going to Tatooine until watching. Makes me wonder what the reaction to the movies would have been if we knew even less. Say Porgs showed up for the first time in the movie. That's now how movies work. But Star Wars on TV can work that way. I had no idea Tarkin would be on the Clone Wars until he was rescued. That worked so well for me.

My favorite all new location is tricky. The Mandalorian is set mostly on remote worlds consisting of barren landscapes and wild wilderness. I thought they were all fantastic. At the same time they are very Tatooine, Hoth, and Endor like. I guess my favorite location was the Republic prison ship.

I liked how it was mostly automated and all the prisioner cameos. Also like how so much action and mystery could happen in the hallways of ship. Also reminded me of the opening of Star Wars on the Blockaide runner.

 

I loved Sorgan, especially the village and farmlands. Peaceful, beautiful, and really nicely designed.

The resurrection of the dirty, beaten-up goofiness and imagination of the original movies. Crazy little things like the ferry droid - a bastardized, extended R2 unit with what appears to be battle droid legs - punting them along on the lava, or the recorder- playing taxicab co-ordinator on the sinister ice lake in the first episode. That makes it all come alive for me. I could happily watch an hour of Mando just walking around a town in silence and seeing what crazy things pop up.

Lucas had (and doubtless still does) an amazing imagination, and he assembled an incredible team around him in the 70s who brought it all to life. As a kid watching Star Wars back then, getting to see the weird, unusual, alien-but-familiar result was like nothing else and The Mandalorian has recaptured that for me.

 

I loved that we got a ton of material they didn't rely on Force users to drive the plot, either as protagonist or antagonist.

One of the things I love about Rogue One is this, as Darth Vader is there only in a cameo role. It was one of the best things about Solo, too.

Not that I don't love the Jedi and the Sith and the Force.

Just it's nice to watch something in Star Wars where the protagonist can't just use his space wizardry to reach his blaster and save his ass. Or to have the bad guys have to resort to tactics, marksmanship, and relatable training.

As much as I loved Rebels, too often Hara and Sabine would get upstaged by Kanan or Ezra, simply because The Force. It was nice that the Mandalorian didn't have that issue.

And yes, we had a free moment where Baby Yoda used the Force, but those seemed fairly minor.

I think this might be a good place to mention that while the first things I noticed that definitely screamed "Western...In Space!", to me was the John Wayne walk and the Ennio Morricone vibes in the music (as well as how the shape of his ship is somewhat similar to Serenity from Firefly. Coincidence? Or not? I'm not sure.), It occurs to me that the thing from the world of westerns that The Mandalorian is most similar to, is Have Gun Will Travel.

 

Day 75 - What did you appreciate the most about The Mandalorian as an addition to the Star Wars universe?

I loved how unexpected it was. We never knew what we'd see until we were watching the episode. There was no expectation on what we should see in advance. And I loved how we all got to watch it together. Why read spoiler when we can just watch it ourselves fully formed.

 

My answer would be similar to Integral and Cubman's. We've had so many stories based around the Force, so it was nice to see a show dedicated to the bounty hunter side of the SW universe. They've always been one of favourite things about this franchise.

I also love how they've given us a show set between the original and sequel trilogy, and hopefully there's a lot more of that to come. That's 30 years of content that we're still yet to find out much about.

I think we're often drawn to characters that, deep down (or maybe not so deep down), we aspire to be like. Wise, self-sufficient, loyal, compassionionate with great engineering skills, Kuiil has a very jedi-like way about him. Plus... he farms blurrbs!

I always think of Nick Nolte as the tough drinking cop in 48 hours so was expecting him to play something similar in the series. Instead he voiced and helped bring to life one of the kindest SW characters we've come across.

IG-11. One of the most entertaining characters in Star Wars. He was by far the funniest in the show, but that's what you'd expect for a character played by Taika Waititi. He was also the coolest to watch in action. The way he moves in combat is like nothing we've seen before. I loved his send off, but I wish he could've been around for season two.
