Yes, we missed last year, but we've decided to bring back the Arena Awards for this year!

Rules are essentially the same as before. Nominations will be open for 2 weeks. You can only post a nomination once, however you can nominate up to 2 options for each award (eg. Best Team - LA Lakers, SF Giants). If possible try to include links to videos, news reports or threads that demonstrate why you nominated what you did. You may not nominate yourself for the in forum awards, and any nominating or voting with socks will see you and your vote disqualified. After the two week period, the top 3 or 4 nominated options for each award will be collated (ties will be determined at the discretion of the moderators), and voted on via PM over a week long period, after which the results will be announced. The winner of the Forum Most Valuable Poster will receive one week of colors.

    Nominate for the following categories:

Haven't decided on all of my nominations (which is why I haven't posted them...) but I can tell you who is a popular nomination here that I definitely won't be nominating (or voting for) - Strasburg. Sure, he showed some great talent. But he pitched in 12 games. That's it, just about a third of a season.

Without even leaving the NL East, I could name a rookie pitcher (reliever) who threw more innings (than the starter), had more strikeouts, a lower opponent batting average, a much lower opponent slugging percentage, lower opponent OPS, and an ERA nearly a full run lower. In the same division. Now, am I saying that Venters (who was my example) is going to have a better career than Strasburg? Not necessarily, though if Strasburg continues on what I'll call the Mark Prior path its quite possible.

Or hey, if you want to credit guys with just a small portion of a season, how about a guy that came in to pitch 21 games, averaging nearly 2 strikeouts per inning with a 0.44 ERA, less than one-sixth that of Strasburg. Not that I would argue that Kimbrel should win, either, but if you want to throw out the amount played, he's out there too.

I'll probably end up putting Heyward and Posey as my nominations. There's a reason those two were the ones in the running for NL RoY at the end of the season, and not Strasburg.

Even if he doesn't deserve the "award", he certainly belongs on the list.

Maybe. But would you be saying that if he hadn't had all the hype built up around him? I'd wager the majority of baseball fans would be a lot more apathetic if you took out the hype and just had a guy come up, have a solid two months with a bunch of strikeouts and a 5-3 record (admittedly for a bad team), then get hurt and miss the rest of the season.

Good point about Venters and Kimbrel, R...J. I would have nominated Venters if I wasn't trying to make sure Heyward got an Arenie to make up for the official RoY that he should have won.

Part of me does want to nominate Venters. But I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with Heyward and Posey (I remember watching Buster Posey down at FSU... that kid is incredible)

On second thought, I'm going to have to leave off either Heyward or Posey. I can't not include Marcus Lattimore (freshman, rookie, same effect).

    Basically January 2010 - December 2010.

So you've got the end of last year's NBA and NHL Seasons combined with the start of this year. This year's NFL Regular season and last year's NFL Playoffs. Etc.
